Is it possible to disable (in the prophertie file) just creepers or the explosion damage?

No, you'll have to download Bukkit and get a plugin that allows you to disable them.

Here's a plugin you could you use if you do end up following through.

WorldGuard

You could disable all monsters in the server.properties file. Or get worldguard.

Theres also a plugin that allows creepers to do damage... But patches up all the stuff they blew up after a couple hours or so. You can also disable explosions on your server without turning off mobs.

^This.

You don’t need much more for everything concerning regions, mobs, and stuff.
Removing and copying back the program file
is not a solution for configuration problems.

By now I can't believe they haven't added a simple admin command to disable them.

It's actually a bit in-depth for a simple admin command. A lot of the basic commands are done with essentials or plugins like it. Nice bumping a thread from a year ago though :)

If using Bukkit, you can use WorldGuard, Factions or the AntiCreeper plugin to disable them.

I mean Mojang should have done it on their side by now since it is more complex.  The problem with using a plug-in is as soon as an update happens everything falls apart.  Then waiting for updates and reassemble.

In regards to the bumping I was looking for a solution and found this thread.  They always say don't start a new thread if one already exists. Posted Image

Just Use WorldGuardor Essentials. Those are Stable Plugins, that both can disable Creeper Block damage.

There are actually game flags for vanilla worlds now, in version 1.4.2 and higher. You can disable creeper, wither, etc. explosions with them. Here's what the wiki shows:

Added /gamerule <gamerule> <true/false> to look up and change gamerules regarding Command Block output
  • /gamerule doFireTick - Whether fire should spread
  • /gamerule doMobLoot - Whether mobs should drop items
  • /gamerule doMobSpawning - Whether mobs should naturally spawn
  • /gamerule doTileDrops - Whether blocks should have drops (does not work for paintings)
  • /gamerule keepInventory - Whether the player should keep items in their inventory if they die.
  • /gamerule mobGriefing - Whether creepers, endermen and withers should be able to change blocks.
