The idea that i had for rope arrows was simply putting the segments of rope into the ammunition slot directly, while having appropriate arrows to fire it with in your inventory. In the case of this thread, it should be something only crossbows can do, since the heavier bolts would be needed to move and support the heavier rope without messing up the flight path of the missile.

I'm considering using the same method to allow the Powder Bombs to be used by the sling for greater distance, this would also allow you to place Light Arrows from a distance with the Bow, and then throw a Powder Bomb with the sling at that torch in order to break single blocks from a distance.

You sneak over the edge to place the rope on the side of the block so you can begin the decent ya? Then you keep putting rope on the rope you placed down, like you're trying to put more than one torch in the same spot. But instead of nothing happening, the rope grows longer. Like so:

That's nice. But I have a Problem with the arrow part of the rope thing. Does the rope stack start spending pieces as soon as you shoot? Or after it connects with a solid block? I'm not sure where I was goin' with that as I got distracted as soon as I finished typing that. . .

Anyways, you confused me a bit at the second paragraph. I'll try reading again, but pics help me sooooo much.

As for how much rope is used by the rope arrow effect, that is based on how far you are from the point you shoot. Once the arrow hits, it will then fill the blocks between you and the arrow with sections of rope. If that is too long, you can then punch the lower section of rope in order to gather them back into your inventory without damaging the upper sections of rope.

there is another way that you can limit the amount of rope you use, and that is by only putting a specific amount of rope in your ammunition slot. If you only put 5 blocks of rope into your ammo slot, then when the arrow hits the block to place the rope, it will only hang down 5 sections of rope from that spot.

Although I did suggest turning brainwash arrows into distractions on the other thread before this one was made, I like that you made it a fair bit more balanced.

But to the idea of any brainwash arrow, I say no. All it costs you is 1 flint, 1 stick, 1 feather, and 1 whatever you decide would brainwash things, and what do you get in return? A creeper blowing up the next enemy he sees, or a skeleton volleying arrows anlong with you, or maybe even a ghast blasting fireballs at every enemy in sight. It's just a bit too unbalanced, especially if you amassed a small army with them.

I think the TNT should be put over 5 arrows to work and produce 5 dynamite arrows, as they have several sticks in them. Also, with the crossbow, maybe a grappling arrow? Maybe one bolt on top of as many strings you feel necessary. The strings should also affect how the bolt flies (If it flies out of the strings length, the bolt will break and continue on. And a grappling bolt should look something like this.

This would make the arrow go faster and longer in distance because of the extra feather.

I love the idea of making the game a bit harder with breakable bows as you listed them (plus having a bit more range on the best one).
Crossbows would be great to if they would use the same arrows plus shoot a bit further and deal a bit more damage per arrow. Therefore have less durability.
I wouldn't like to have different types of arrows though. Doesn't seem to fit in to the game in my opinion. Also TNT arrows would make the game way too easy (you can collect plenty gunpowder with a mob trap).

New types of arrows are awesome, but i think that crafting recipes should not use regular arrows. It seems to be more logical if you craft arrows as usual:
Torch arrow

To account for the splintering effect of spread shot arrows, I think a more appropriate recipe would be:

Also, I think there should be composite bows:
    
    
    
(spider being string and bacon being leather)
These would have the longest range and highest durability but decreased damage

Lastly, adding a telescope (by any of the numerous ideas on that topic) to any crossbow or bow could work as a scope. When holding down the left click (and the scoped bow cant be used to hit with) the screen would change to look like a scope with a crosshair, and any arrows fired while looking through the scope would travel farther, at the cost of a reduced firing speed. (putting my composite bow and scope together makes a long-distance sniping weapon!)

Durability of tools is 65(stone) 129(iron) and 1025(diamond)

129, 257, and 513 would be acceptable numbers for the wood, leather, and iron bows to have respectively.

All other amounts and values in the game are factors of 2 (+1 for some reason) it would make sense for the bows durability to follow this.  The question is how long should they last.  Should you get to fire two stacks of arrows before the wooden bow breaks or 4 stacks?  Perhaps only a single stack for the wooden bow.

The TNT arrows would have to be balanced out, they could be the same power as a ghast fireball.  If they don't break harder materials you wouldn't be able to level somebody's fort from a far

I still say you need the Igniter Bow I suggested. It's the perfect way to balance the power of the flame and explosive arrows. It could even be added to any of the bows.
Also get the sticky arrow in there. I basically suggested it as a more logical replacement for the snowball arrow you had in the original thread. I had liked the ability to "stun" opponents, but the snowball didn't make sense for doing that. The sticky arrows covers that sensibly.

I am always for anything that makes use of those the slime ball! Even though I've only ever seen 3 slimes in my whole time playing Minecraft (they were at the same time)

Slime spawning is currently broken.
No reason to not include slime arrows though, in fact, those would be more reason for notch to fix the slimes.
