Just like wheat attracts land animals, and can be used to breed them, the same process would be pretty cool with fish and squid. Then it would make fishing more useful too.

Many people need them for dye, such as myself. Also if you were in his position you'd probably do the same (or similar) stuff...

Squids spawn all the time in the lake near my house – much faster than I could breed them if I apply the mean time for breeding land animals to water animals. Seems like they’re attracted to shallow water.
Removing and copying back the program file
is not a solution for configuration problems.

But squids spawn and despawn like hostile mobs. Breeding them would be quite useless because if the player walks away 128 blocks from squids, all squids, including baby ones, would disappear

Unnecessary considering how squids spawn currently.  A fairly large lake  (even artificially made) will spawn more than enough squids.

I like to build underwater in oceans, in this case squid spawning is actually quite annoying.

Seriously, Mojang.  Cubic Chunks need to be implemented in Vanilla Minecraft!

This one is not really a need but it would be extremely awesome!
