Not really. None of the minimaps I've seen show more than you can see anyway; that's why I don't bother with them myself.

Oh look, it's this thread again.

If it's singleplayer, you decide if it's cheating. If you have fun using it, keep it.
If it's multiplayer, ask a mod or admin. They'll decide.

There's no cheating on a Single player game where there isn't even highscores. It's up to you to decide if it unbalances the game. Of course a legit world is one you don't use any mods, editors or abuses glitches.

There is no cheating if you're in singleplayer.
The server rules decide what is considered what on their server.

It is a sandbox game, you decide. I personally enjoy Vanilla Minecraft, but I won't push that opinion on anyone else.

I use them to get an overview of where more rare natural resources are be located.

Would go insane on some of these worlds trying to find something as simple as snow.

i wouldn't say its cheating.
its just making your game play more convenient really.
i mean, either place A flag on the ground to mark the spot, or you can hog up few buckets of lava and make a huge lava pool,
so the map will show a tiny red dot.

I actually haven't felt the need to use them, I think for me, it would destroy a bit of the fun of exploring, and trying to find tall "parkour" style mountains to climb and see the view. I can see why people would use them though, as sometimes I am stuck in the middle of a dense tall tree forest (I must admit I don't like those forests, its annoying trying to get every last log of wood from a tree there) and I can't figure out which way to go.

I wouldn't technically consider it "cheating" as Minecraft is a game you play on your own terms. I usually conjure up a diamond toolkit. I pretend I'm working for someone else, and of course, your boss always provide you with the tools to do the job properly But on my current world (in single player) I am doing everything legit, all I have is an Iron pick right now, everything else is cobblestone (since I have an overabundance of it LOL). I also have full iron armour rofl (I was going to make a full iron toolset, but backtracked when I found a massive cavern filled to the brim with every mob possible LOL).

So it really depends on your style of gaming and what your trying to get out of the game
