I actually don't really know what causes colour-blindness, but it's rather annoying to suffer from its effects -_-

I actually meant more along the lines of, how exactly you texture despite being colorblind

Spoiler

I made a little progress: (in order) fern, bedrock, stone-slab, sandstone; the stone-slab may be scrapped, it doesn't particularly fit in imo (unless people like it); and sandstone is unfinished, and far too light :P

Bit of an update to the OP, and will be doing such slowly but surely until it's at a respectable state :)

Also, DOWNLOAD AVAILABLE NOW! (yay). I may have around 50% of the terrain.png finished, but I noticed several requests, and I saw little reason not to...so, alpha v0.1 is ready for testing!

Thanks,

I really like this pack, and I like the fact that somebody who perhaps under other circumstances would not contemplate doing a feat of artistry like this is attempting to make a texture pack and succeeding.

It's interesting really, I suppose being colourblind must lend itself to a whole new level of creativity because you aren't constrained to the predefined colour palettes of the normal Minecraft world.

Hey, you.

Yeah, you. You look like you need some texture work for your mod or other idea. If you do, please send me a message and I'll get to it straight away.

I recently tried out the pack in game, and after a little bit, decided to post about what my feelings are about the pack, such as likes and dislikes, suggestions, etc. I'll start first with what I liked about it. I really liked the overall dark feel to the pack, especially in regards to the grass textures. Something also about the sand texture I really love, and quite put my finger one what, though.

Now, I'll talk about some of the things I didn't like as much about the pack so far. One of the biggest things for me personally were the ores. It might be the fact that some of them look similar to others, or the fact that they also seems a little bulky, I'm not sure. I also don't like the style of breaking animation you decided to go for, although I doubt that was the one you were going to use for the final version.

I also wanted to mention that I find your choice in having the End Stone red very interesting, and I'm curious where you go with that in the future. Last but not least, I have a few suggestions, which are basically things that I don't think are a big deal if you actually change or not, but just things I think can make the pack even better. First, I think that the stone texture is to light in comparison to the other, darker textures. Also, I think the dirt should be just a little bit more brown, unless you were going for a more grey shade of dirt.

Well, I think I'm finished rambling on now, sorry for such a huge read, I just thought that at least some of this stuff might be useful to you in some way. Overall, I really REALLY like how the pack is going so far, and am looking forward to more progress on it! :D

P.S. I hate this website right now, because this is the second time I had to type this whole damn thing out, because the first time, there was some sort of error! ):<

Well, as long as there are others to provide sufficient critique, then I shall progress w/o (hopefully) too much an issue...there's just perhaps more 'trial and error' than usual texturing, but I've got just about enough time anyway :)

...is it just me, or is that bookcase actually quite weird? :/
Anyway, added bookshelf, updated soulsand (netherrack's only there for no particular reason...), added pumpkin textures (although their top's a little off (hence I've hidden them))

Thank you very much so for responding! I wish you luck in your efforts to improve the ore textures, and it was no problem at all, I'm just glad to help! :)

Also, I do indeed see what you did there :3

Hey thanks!

OT: I won't be able to post images of my work again for a little while, but I will be working on the pack I assure you - and I will still be able to accept suggestions, so keep them coming!

I *may* start texturing for other files, namely the items.png; I may have an unfinished terrain.png to complete, but I feel like a change.

Also, I've finished with the top texture of the pumpkin, and added cactus textures! (but I'm afraid I can't show pics atm).

I don't know if I have posted here before (I don't bother looking through all the pages, I know, lazy)

I don't think you should be all like "I'm bored and COLOUR BLIND so then I made this pack. Note that I am COLOUR BLIND. COLOUR BLIND. COLOUR BLIND."
You are colour blind, okay. But don't use it as a way to justify eventual bad texturing. We have a great community here, and we'll let you know if any colouring is a bit off.

That said, it looks really great, I like the style alot. One thing though, is that you should probably make the ores look embedded in the rock. Check here for a tutorial.

Keep up the good work! :Diamond:

Thanks, and I didn't realise I emphasised my colour-blindness so much, I didn't mean for it to be an excuse for 'bad texturing', I merely wanted to make sure viewers knew as a precaution, and would let me know if there's a misplaced/completely unfitting colour...although from what I've read, that hasn't really happened yet.

And I agree with the ores, as I think I acknowledged on the thread, thanks the the tut., although I may have already read it; I'll probably work on the ores today, but I seem to either make the ores desaturated, or too saturated :/ -and rather round. Meh, I'll just practice for a long while :)

Textured quite a lot recently, but I will not release these just yet, as I'm not satisfied with a few textures; namely, the workbench - and I'm uncertain about pickaxes.

Textures seen above: Glowstone, Lamp, Cactus, Sugar Cane, Sandstone, Updated Ores, vines, craftbench, furnace, dispenser, ironbars, partially updated enchantment table, bed, pickaxes (but not gold or diamond), stick+fishingrod, lapis-lazuli block, lily-pad, melon, repeater, ladder

I've also textured the buttons of the GUI, but they're nothing special.

EDIT:double-post, my bad

I don't think he was doing that at all. He said once that he was color blind in the entire OP.

Also, the new textures are lookin' good, Mini! However, the pickaxes look a little odd, IMO

I think he was referring to how it was at the top of the thread, and emphasised as such.
+I agree with you on the pickaxes, but that's fine, they were mainly just a test for more fantasy-styled picks, but I think that would be easier in a higher res.

I'll likely remove them, but keep the stone one - it would fit well as an axe :D

Also, how do the ores look? They've proved the most tedious texture to me, I struggle to tell whether they look correctly embedded. Personally, i like how the gold's turned out, but I'm uncertain about the iron, and the diamond's probably too white :S

They do look embedded in the stone now, but I still don't really like how they look. You know my thoughts on that already, though :3

The thing is that there is several ways of embedding ores, my favourite can be seen in this example I quickly sketched:

Posted Image

The left one is my favourite, it makes it look like the rock in the bottom-right/left corner is lit up by light from above.

The right one is the one you're using, it's more sort of, if there is no light source and it's just sorta stuck in the rock.

I hope I helped :P

**EDIT**

Yea, I know, bad example >.<
I hope you get the point anyway.

Yeah, I think I'm following what you mean; Although, the likely main issue is how I'm trying to fit a level of detail that I can't particularly convey, I lack that skill atm, so I'll try simpler styles - but the example you showed was more of a 'vein' texture as opposed to ore chunks, and I'd prefer ore chunks for the majority of the textures...

Thanks for the tip, though ^_^

It works very well with ore chunks as well.

As in, with the shading sort of inverted? (if you know what I mean...?)

Anyhow, as stated earlier I was to have a shot at some items, some took a little longer than anticipated, but that's okay I'm rather satisfied with them :)

As can be seen, there's the wood/stone/iron pickaxes, wood/stone/iron shovels, wood/stone/iron hoes, a stone axe, the repeater icon, an egg, brick, fishing rod, coal, and iron+gold ingots respectively [I more-or-less just used the ore chunks for these, with some editing].

Also working on 'even-ing out' the workbench, as it's notably dull/dark, and a little too low-contrast.
