IMPORTANT!

So long...For now(?)

Anyone who has visited this thread recently will notice a distinct lack of progress; I can finally confirm this project as abandoned - it's still possible, if I do so wish, for me to continue this pack. Furthermore, it is still rightfully mine, and licensed under my name; however I freely allow people to create a continuation of my pack, if they do so wish - but you must contact me via minecraft-forum PM, or email minihilly@gmail.com beforehand (complete with a link to your thread), as well as giving credit for any texture(s) used within the thread and pack (a 'readme' text-file).

Sorry if this is inconvenient, but I'm merely taking precautions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Information & Background:

Well, hi there! Recently, I noticed that the 32x texture-packs dominated the texture market, so I thought: What if one was to make a gold ol'-fashioned 16x RPG-style pack...? Hence, I started texturing my first pack - it's rather early in its creation, but I'm quite dedicated to have it 'complete' at some point. It's also worth noting that I'm colourblind, so any weird colour-choices is likely the result of such, so it's absolutely fine to point weird texturing out! But so far, I have little to show for; however, I will present you with what I have already, although many textures established are in need of improvement...and there's much more unfinished - I'm even considering a duo with another aspiring (preferably new) artist.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(new Section!)

WIP (I want a release!):

I'm afraid that, as much as I'd love the pack completed myself, it takes time to create a texturepack with quality and care: I cannot simply allow this to be a ho-hum, flim-flam, effort. Although, it is regularly updated; hopefully, that will avoid disappoint, with the pack feeling so...incomplete.

Sadly, it is unlikely to be completed any-time soon - I'm a perfectionist who's colour-blind, and that's not a good combination!

In terms of my current work, it's about 20% through its 'completion' (although not pack can ever truly complete, mainly because minecraft will keep on adding textures anyway). I can try as I can and suggestions will speed up the progress, but a certain show (as hinted through this semi-speech here) has been occupying my time, as well as matters in real-life (yes, artists still have these) getting in the way of production.

One day, this pack will see a state of 'completion'

...one day.

Upcoming Textures:

Okay, I work rather slowly, and seldom release updates, but you may check back here to see current progress in the pack - that is, textures that I'm working on, and often pictures of development (although new additions can also be seen in the 'Pictures' section of the thread. So, without further adieu, here's the work I'm doing at the moment:
(spoiler may be messy, as I can hurriedly post information here)

Note:

This section can be updated 'unevenly'; don't be surprised to see outdated information. Sorry, it just takes time to produce and document textures!

I actually really like your stone, cobblestone and ores.

The only thing that I don't like from the pics are the bookshelves, I think it would look better if the books were blander in color, like more blacks and dark browns like the wood from the trees. Other than that I really like it. :)

Thanks.
Although, to be fair, my colourblindness is not so extreme; mainly, causes difficulties when shading <_<

I agree.
In honesty, I had made a bookshelf texture prior to that, that was to plain+low cont.
...seems, though, I've ended up with a bookshelf texture that has the opposite problems :P

The texture is fine for the bookshelves just change the brighter colors (the bright greens and purples mainly) to darker reds and browns, or if you have trouble with that I could maybe try my hand at it, I do have Photoshop but I've don't use it every day.

Thanks for offering, but I'll do it myself :3
-I know I'd feel more proud that way [until I realise it looks bad again ^o]

That's fine. I really didn't want to open Photoshop anyway. I've always been more of an "idea" man than a "creative" man.

Good luck and I hope to see a finished pack from you soon. B)

Fixed OP error, with the colours 'n' such, and a couple typos I believe

Also, two pics here (may add to OP later, likely in a spoiler):
Posted Image
^Shows bricks and stone nicely, didn't think they'd tile together well but they seem to...
(also those with a good eye will notice the tiling issue on the log, it's rather minor though)
Posted Image
That lone tree; also, you can barely see the side-grass, it was only quickly made
(I just edited vanilla sidegrass a little; didn't want to embarrass by making it myself)

Also, I have wools, iron-bars, and maybe 1/2 more I've forgotten now; semi-done, but no pics, as I'm not satisfied...

...or maybe you have some ideas for textures I haven't made yet? (I'm a slow one for inspiration)
...Some suggestions would be appreciated.

Trying out some variants of current textures; new cobble+wood visible here (as well as minor edits to the iron-bars):
Spoiler
Example of 3 wools used together (they go well with the wood edit):

Posted Image
...they still need edits, but colourblindness seems to be making my wools more difficult to judge than they should be :Skeleton: . Also, Glowstone looks rather out of place atm, not sure what I should do about it yet..

And again, feedback/criticism/requests/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
(in particular, indications of colour oddness)

Fixed Sand, Dark-Log tiling issue; edited Glowstone to fit a little better (though I am considering making a more decorative glowstone, as opposed to natural).

Currently experimenting with Cobblestone,as some do not seem to like it - I'm rather unsure myself...similarly, testing out different wooden-plank variants (same reason)

will add pics shortly.
Edit: pics will instead arrive later, it's midnight...and I be tired.
+no-ones even viewing/commenting etc. at the moment :Skeleton:

I like the textures you have marked in the green text (AKA, the ones you're happy with) - they are actually very nice! The wools look great too, almost like wallpaper!

If you make all the others up to this quality I would definitely try it out!

Some suggestions: try to do something a little more inventive with the dirt other than just noise. Look at some other popular RPG packs, you'll see that most of them have a chunkier style of dirt which works really well in the RPG style.

Cobble, mossy and glowstone all seem a little flat and lack depth. The large cracks in some places of the cobble seem a bit out of place and jarring to the rest of the texture too.

Nether brick is far too tiny, make the individual bricks a bit bigger or try a different style for it.

Not sure about what you've done with the ores... Two of them are plain white and one is bright yellow - definitely not sure.... The coal looks very good though!

Bookshelves have that bright green book on the bottom shelf lying horizontally, it looks very out of place and it's a bad colour choice.

Ok there you go, that should keep you busy for a while! PS: forgot to say it up there^ but I like the long grass too. :D

:o Thanks sheep! I love your work, some of it served as great inspiration :D

I completely agree with the dirt, it's just a place-holder atm, until I can make a classic, chunky RPG dirt without f*cking it up

Yeah, I noticed such issues with the cobble too, the tiling issue with the cracks I believe is fixed now, but some people like the smooth look w/o much depth/emphasis - but i'll be sure to try it out. The glowstone I'm considering making a more decorative version (for uses with building), but I'll probably shape it after my glass texture, which hasn't been made yet :Skeleton:

didn't think the ores looked that way O_o
...I hate colour-blindness

Yeah, I'll get the the bookshelves ASAP...in fact make that now.

Thanks for the feedback!

EDIT: what did you think about the new types of cobble+wood?
imo, cobble still needs work, but don't know which wood i prefer <_<, the darker, horizontal one seems to go better with the wool.
