Hi! After rigorous research I finally found a solution to this! I have an HP laptop, not Sony, with a Radeoh HD 6770m, similar specs. You need to install third party drivers, full instructions are here: https://docs.google....KKFfGP7tI&pli=1
Took about 20-30 minutes to install for me. Make sure you follow the instructions completely, you'll need to download the set of drivers

Hi,

After reading this document, it seems to me like it goes back to switchable graphics and not forcing the use of the Radeon HD, Can you confirm that this is forcing minecraft to use this card and not the intel as it does with the switchable enabled by default on HP laptops.

With my Sony laptop; Minecraft & the graphics card only work together when the Radeon is switched off, and I'm using the integrated Intel graphics.

I found a solution for this problem, restart your laptop with the switch in ''SPEED'' and it shouldn't crash anymore.

Good suggestion; but I tried that, it doesn't work on my system.

It also doesn't work for me anymore. It was running stable for ~1 hour but after that, it kept crashing again.

Hey everyone,
I had a similar issue with my HP laptop and tinkered with the Catalyst Control Center for a while - try turning off "AMD-optimized tessellation" under 3D Application settings and check "Use Application Settings" instead. That did the trick for me.
Hope it helps Posted Image!

Or so I thought :(. I was able to play for over an hour but now the issue has returned. I give up, for now. Definitely a driver issue.

I also had this problem. I have an HP Pavilion dv6t qe with an AMD Radeon HD 7690M. If you used switchable graphics and assigned Java and Minecraft to high performance, it didn't work. This was a known bug according to HP's website, and the solution was to go into the BIOS and change the graphics settings from dynamic to fixed. This runs the AMD card whenever you are plugged in and the Intel card whenever you are on battery (this can be changed from the Catalyst Control Center). However, Minecraft then began crashing. I looked around a bit and found this: http://forum.noteboo...rd-problem.html Basically, this forum links you to here: http://forums.guru3d...ad.php?t=357134 where you can download a 3rd party driver for the AMD card. I tried it and it works great! It forced the AMD card to run and it kept Minecraft from crashing. However, the only catch is that the switch between graphics cards no longer works. Although the driver does give you the option of switching back to the Intel card when you unplug, it doesn't actually make the switch. Although I haven't done extensive testing, the only way it appears to allow you to switch is if you return to dynamic graphics in the BIOS. Later I'm going to test this and see if this driver will run Minecraft with the AMD card while the BIOS settings is set to dynamic.

*Edit*
I tested this driver, and it can't run Minecraft while in Dynamic mode. So you still have to set the BIOS to static, and when you do, this driver will NOT switch between the AMD and Intel cards when you plug/unplug the computer.

*Edit*
After I restarted my computer, the driver began to correctly change between the AMD and Intel graphics when I plugged/unplugged my computer. However, you must still set the BIOS graphics setting to fixed.

I had the same problem, but I think I found a solution that works for me. I am running a brand new Sony Vaio SA notebook with a Core i7 and switchable graphics (IntelHD and Radeon 6630m).

I noticed when I attempted to play Minecraft on the Radeon, the fan became extremely loud, suggesting that something was working way too hard on my machine.

A few days ago, I installed the Optifine mod for Version 1.2.3. On the video settings, I changed the "Performance" setting to "VSync," and under the "Performance..." menu, I changed "Smooth FPS" to "on."

The former setting imposes an FPS limit of 60 FPS. The latter setting stabilizes my FPS at that 60 FPS rate. I know that 60 FPS isn't great, but it's better than the 10-15 (with spikes and lags) that I get while playing on the Intel graphics card. And, fingers crossed, no crashes so far. Plus, I was able to install a 128x128 HD texture pack with no affect on performance.

For science, I decided to change increase the "Performance" setting from "VSync" to "Balanced," and the Radeon card crashed almost immediately. I'm not an expert on this by any means. I just used a lot of trial and error to find settings that worked for me. I'd be curious to know if this works for anyone else.

*Edit*

After a while, I started getting crashes again. I even lost my entire inventory a few times, and got sent back to my original spawn point. Needless to say, I was not happy. I also tried installing 64-bit Java. Same thing - worked for about an hour, then started crashing again. I'm considering installing third-party drivers. Seems like some people are getting encouraging results.

Thank you for your suggestion! I tested it out today, and so far I haven't had any problems playing. I noticed that it reduced the noise coming from the fan, like you said. I will keep you posted in case something happens.

I've found a solution!!!!!

http://leshcat.blogspot.com/

there's an updated driver for switchable graphic,

I've downloaded the last version (12.3) and installed it, using the included cleaner before.
After a while of gameplay, it looks fine!! (I had crashes in 10 or 20 seconds before).

Tested with my HD6770m (2gb) + Intel HD

This post solved the problem for me. :)

This helped for a little while, but I later Minecraft began crashing again.

I tried this out, and it worked! So far I haven't had a single crash! Thank you for your help! If anyone was confused about what to do, download the file mentioned. After opening the .exe file, follow the installation guide. After that, use the uninstall feature to remove any AMD programs installed on your computer. Afterwards, reinstall the AMD programs using the mentioned .exe file. Hope this helps!

Getting the same problem, I have a HP Pavilion dv6, i7, 16 GB RAM, SSD, and 2GB dedicated Radeon Graphics. :D

I finally switched to "Fixed" and can change which one when i want, but Minecraft keeps crashing, like everyone else.
Talking to HP now. I will share a solution if i get one.

OK, so after an hour or so, this is what I did:

1. Go to device Manager
2. Click the Radeon Graphics card
3. at the top, click uninstall.
4. Download this file (It is downloaded from the HP website)(Am i allowed to post download links?)
http://ftp.hp.com/pu...500/sp55092.exe
5. Install that, that is the complete Catalyst control center. That is the latest version and latest driver.

That will work for the following graphic cards:
Radeon HD 6490M, Radeon HD 6770M, Radeon HD 7470M, Radeon HD 7690M XT

This extended the amount of time minecraft worked until it crashed, but it still does D:

Hope this works for someone else.

I have this exact problem with my brand new sony Viao s series. I found a work around for this without putting it into stamina mode, you have to go in and ajust the video card's power saver mode off. With it on it cashed within 30 seconds of me starting minecraft but now it rarely ever happens unless i tax the video card beond its limits. However this should not be a problem that we should have to face and I am quite annoyed.

This has happened to me before but i have finally fixed it. You have to go the HP website and select drivers. Then find your laptop model and click on it. Then find Graphics card and BIOS and update those both. Then restart your computer and it should say like Press F10 for setup or something like that so press F10 (varies on computer) a couple of times and your system BIOS should come up. Navigate to System Configuration with the arrow keys and find Switchable Graphics. Change that from dynamic to Fixed. Now you can manually chose what graphics to use via the Catalyst Control Center.
