Minecraft crashes and displays " Your display Driver has stopped responding but has sucessfully recovered"

I recently purchased a new Sony Vaio laptop. Here are the specs:
2nd Generation Intel Core i5 processor
AMD Radeon HD 6470M
Intel HD Graphics Family
Here is the product name if you want to look up any other specs: vpcse13fxb
Five minutes into playing Minecraft, the game freezes and the screen goes black. It reappears white and in the bottom right corner it displays the message " Your display Driver has stopped responding but has sucessfully recovered." I then must forcefully quit Minecraft. I have uninstalled and updated my display driver, but to no avail. Any ideas how to fix this? I would greatly appreciate any help.

Of course everything (Java, driver) is up to date. Still it crashes!

Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, minecraft, java. Got latest versions. Tried playing in compatability modes. Playing on an HP Probook, with an ati radeon hd 540v. It's a bummer though, the game worked alright on my old mac powerbook (just a little choppy).

1.Right click on the EXE file (not any shortcuts) and choose Properties.
2.In Compatibility, I would check the box marked Run this program in compatibility mode for: and pick any one of the XP or Vista service packs.
3.Then try running it.
If it doesn't work, uncheck the box i previously told you to check. Sorry, I don't know what to say.
If it does, then go on.
4.Every time you want to open minecraft, you will have to change the compatibility mode settings to a different XP or Vista service pack. It doesn't matter which one, as long as it's not the one you played minecraft in the very last time.
Hope this helps!

All you SHOULD have to do is update your drivers, but of course sony didnt make it that easy, and you need to get it from their site, NOT ATI's site.
even then it may not work, because Sony, much like a mod maker for minecraft, has to release their own version of the driver, which could take a while after ATI releases theirs.
Until then, if your VAIO has a switch on it that can switch to Integrated graphics (the intel one) use it. it should have STAMINA/SPEED written as the "options". it should get minecraft running until sony stops being lazy.
EDIT: I just updated my drivers for the ATI card through sony, and I still have the same problem. Well, i hope i at least showed where to go to find the fix! (when its out...)

Sony Vaios have two graphics cards, the Intel one AND a dedicated ATI one, the problem is not with the Intel chip, its with the ATI one. (in fact, the Intel one works perfectly)

Thank you! I will test this out. I think this would fix the problem, but I'm not sure how well Minecraft would run. Hopefully Sony will release an update soon. Thanks again!
P.S. If an update is released by Sony, anyone please post about it on this thread.

Hello,
I have exact the same specifications like turtleboyrocks, and also the same problem. Off course I tried to reinstall/update my (AMD)drivers and Java.
Too bad there is still no solution/fix for this problem because it looks like there are many people having this issue on their VAIO laptop.
I hope that someone might find a solution or something.
