So 1.3.1 has come, modding will start up again soon.
Mojang "nicked" my books (I do like them implementing features in vanilla though!) which was/is my largest mod.
I'll do my best to adapt the bookcases to vanilla books, as well as the lecterns (hopefully the lectern bug will be fixable).
XP books and Outfit will be updated soon as well.
Thank you all for the nice comments, the help some of you have given to others in this thread, and almost 80 000 downloads over the last six months
Plug time! The Blockalot and paintable wood mod has updated to 1.2.5. One of the most used mods on my primary server!
Developers: Are anyone interested in having their own modded book type items placed on lecterns or in bookshelves? Message me
The ID not changeable bug has been fixed
Thank you Hi7ch for making this! Everyone happy with what they see?

Tomes are player writable books.
Changelog:
Version 6, 8th of April
- Updated to 1.2.5
- Better line wrapping, more fits on each line
- Fixed IDs not being changable
- Beta lecterns for SMP, they work, bar one bug, they always face one specific direction.
Tome recipe:

Bookshelf recipe:

Lectern recipe (Only if mod_lectern is installed as well):

After creating the tome just hold it in your hand and right click. This will bring up the book for writing/reading. The first line will be used as the title of the book.
Bookshelves are used by right clicking them, that will bring up the gui to place books in them. They will accept Tomes, XP Books (if installed) and normal books (for filling them).
Please note that these bookcases do NOT count towards enchanting, at this time!
(If anyone wanna read the rest of the story, you can find it on Project GutenbergUsage:
- Arrows will move around the text
- Ctrl-C will copy the book (can be pasted into notepad or other programs as well)
- Ctrl-V will paste the text in your clipboard (copy from other programs such as notepad!) into the tome
- CTRL-arrow left/right will move one word to the left or right
- Page up / page down will move between pages
- Clicking with your mouse will set the cursor to the location you clicked

XP Books
Introduction
The XP Books mod adds a new item, a craftable XP book that can store your XP. Each crafted book will store half the XP you have at the moment of crafting.

To regain the XP stored in a book "eat" it like you would with food. The book will be consumed along with the XP.
The XP is not the same as levels. For each level you gain it takes more XP to reach the next level. Level 1 is 7 XP, level 2 is 10, level 3 is 14. At Level 10 your total xp is (7+10+14+17+21+24+28+31+35+38)=225. You will then get a book with 112 XP in it, which, at level 5 will return you to 10 levels. BUT! If you consume the book at level 0 (no XP) you will not just get 5 levels (93 XP total), but reach almost level 6 (which is 121 XP)
Note: do NOT hold down shift when crafting. This will make empty books, but you will still lose XP.

Reviews
Outfit (SMP only)
Introduction
Outfit is a simple SMP server side ONLY mod that outfits joining players with a set of selected items.
To set what items a player receives create a file called "outfits.ini" in the config folder. See below for example configuration and item names.
To remove a player from the seen list and thus outfit them with the items again upon login, remove their name from the outfit.ini file.
Example configuration
item.bread=32 item.shovelDiamond=1 item.hatchetDiamond=1 item.porkchopCooked=16 item.pickaxeDiamond=1 tile.dirt=64
This configuration will give each player 32 bread, 16 porkchops, a diamond shovel, axe(here called hatchet), pickaxe, and 64 dirt.
Mods are also supported now, either by knowing the internal name or the ID of the item/block. Also see below how to find any item/block IDs on your server.
If you know the ID of items/blocks but not the name, you can use item.<ID> or tile.<ID> = amount.
First time a server is ran with mod_outfit installed it will create a file called outfit-help.txt in the folder of your server. In this file you will find all item and tile names / ids that can be used on your server.
