I'm more concerned about testing so it don't even need to be very good looking, recently I configure my nvidia card to highest settings (like 32x AA AF whatever) on minecraft and noticed how cool it looked (with near zero fps drops as I use vsync) with misa pack, so now I want to test it against the highest resolution textures and see what happens.

NVM found out that 512 appears to be highest

I have only been able to personally get up to 768x, but at that point it was just a slideshow that took about 10 minutes to load, when a 512x pack loads instantly and I get over 100FPS, haha.

I tried 1024x, but Minecraft failed to ever load, I even left it overnight, lol.

If you can honestly even use a 1024x texture pack on a computer, then your computer must be built by the government. If not, tell me where to go to buy that.
My old, outdated texture pack that I no longer work on

The highest I've seen work is 2,048x2048. As far as the crashing is concerned, you need hd patcher for high res. texture packs.

No, it isn't, it is literally impossible for minecraft to handle textures higher than 768x768.
Even with an hdpatcher.

It's the way the game is coded. And other things.
