I read that if you give an animal wheat for breeding, it will follow you, so I wanted to bring a cow back to my house and I fed it about 50 wheat but it wouldn't follow me. How do I get them to follow?

They follow you if you have wheat in your HAND. if you feed them in it, it tries to find another cow or a mooshroom to make a baby.

They didn't seem to be following me before I fed them either, but I'll try.

Feeding wheat is to make them ready for doing the dirty. To get them to follow, walk around/near them holding wheat until they notice you and follow. If you fed them, they won't follow afaik, could be wrong on this.
