Research a program called Fraps(?). Not sure if its the best. But I know its commonly used.

Never recorded anything though so I'm not sure how to use it.
I'm usually not trying to be rude. So if a post comes across that way then sorry :]

First of all, you need a recording software, a program like Fraps would be suitable for you unless your computer or laptop isn't able to run Fraps because of memory usage. Then you'd be able to record a game in a window, ie. Minecraft. Doing so, afterwards you'd need an editing software - wait, are you looking for tips or actually how to do it?

You could also check out the capture utility which was added to MSI Afterburner.  In general though, I usually just stick with FRAPS.  Not free but probably one of the best out there for just plain working right.

I bought FRAPS for £24. That's pretty much the only one I know, you can record with Camtasia, but please don't.

FRAPS

If you ever inherit a large sum of money (A few thousand) and you inherit it when you're mentally immature, put it into your bank account and leave it there until you grow, trust me on this one.

I use Fraps. It's a really good screen recording software. Only thing is you have to have a computer good enough to run the game and record at the same time.

I can't think of any free program similar to Fraps, but a more reliable method is to use a capturing device. It will always record the signal sent to your monitor, and it will not cause slowdowns.

You would still have to have some sort of software running though wouldn't you? Which could still lag your game a bit.

That really depends on the device. You could always plug it into another computer, if at all.

I use Microsoft Expression Encoder. That's free and includes a screen video capture tool. I think it just limits you to 10 minute videos, but I've found the quality to be quite good, and the encoder is easy to work with.

CamStudio is free and unrestricted but I had severe quality problems with it. Trying to record in any kind of reasonable quality ruined Minecraft framerates, which sort of defeated the purpose.

Fraps = perfect and not free.
Some free capture tool = shitty and free.

Actually I tried a free version of Fraps and it didn't work properly with Minecraft. The videos looked like a scuzzy TV. It worked with Half Life 2 though.

So I have the same problem as the OP.
My parkour map. Do you have the skill?

Any screen recorder will do it, Fraps, Hypercam, even Audials, though that one ain't cheap.
