All this shows is that you don't know the workings of Bethesda.

Bethesda Game Studios refers specifically to Todd Howard's Dev Team, the ones behind the Elder Scrolls titles as well as Fallout 3. BGS is a part of Bethesda Softworks, but BGS is not BethSoft as a whole; there are plenty of titles licensed under BethSoft that are NOT made by BGS.

Though, in point of fact, one should take care to remember that it wasn't specifically BethSoft OR BGS who filed the suit, but Zenimax Studios, the parent company who owns BethSoft. At that level, one can effectively consider BGS and the lawyers behind the suit as two completely separate entities.

Judging from the videos and others, I beleive its at the top of a mountain, possibly the tallest point in the game.

I personally think this was added on purpose, to show the appreciation the creators of Skyrim have for Minecraft. Pretty cool to see something about Minecraft in a popular game such as Skyrim. Congrats Notch!

In Minecraft enchanting, the words (translated from Standard Galactic Alphabet to English) "The", "Elder", and "Scrolls" all can be a possible word in the enchantments.

sadly, you're wrong. it wasn't in oblivion it is only in skyrim. people can say it wasn't a reference to :iapprove: and minecraft but how do you make a pickaxe and name it notched pickaxe without thinking of minecraft? i rest my case. B)

I'm going to throw wild speculation into the wind:
The Notched Pickaxe represents a great game creation that almost made it to the top in the world but just fell short at BAFTA.
i.e. Your game is good, Notch, but not quite the best this year.

Skyrim is full of minecraft references;

Notched pickaxe, the cake and the diamond... hell, even the "arrow to the knee" is a reference to a yogscast podcast way back before skyrims release when Simon said "My grandfather used to be a bee but then he took an arrow to the knee". We have been told than the devs behind skyrim are huge minecraft fans, there si no reason whatsoever to assume these are NOT references.

This is INDEED a reference to minecraft.

First, let's disprove others...

I have thoroughly played morrowind and oblivion, as well as used their construction sets.

THERE IS NO NOTCHED PICKAXE IN MORROIND OR OBLIVION, ANYONE CLAIMING OTHERWISE IS MISINFORMED AND/OR LYING


Onto why it is indeed an easter eggs/

What easter eggs gotta be: out of place things that reference other things.

The notched pickaxe is at the top of the throat of the world, a very important mountain,
home of the greybeards among other things.

It is higher past where you would normally go, you have to look to find it.

It is embedded into some rock, near valuable ore deposits.

It is one of a kind.

It has a unique enchantment to fortify smithing and lightning on weapons.
smithing=create your own items
mineCRAFT = you craft all your own items

Bethesda is a huge fan of adding in easter eggs.  they are countless.


The people who made Skyrim never sued Notch,  their parent company did.

Think of it this way, George lucas won't sue someone, but lucasarts would.

Guys who made skyrim are fans of minecraft.


Notched does indeed mean different things.
But if this was a coincidence? why is it the only thing of its kind, in a out of the way place, on a special mountain, with valuable ores nearby, with an enchantment that lets you make better things.



There you all have it, overwhelming evidence as to why this IS an easter egg.


There has been absolutely no evidence to the contrary.

Just mindless people who had dead thrall cast on them and were told to go around saying "durrr herrr.... i never played morrowind or oblivion derrrr....  i read that this was in them duhhh...  it must be true! i'll go around saying it durr..."
