I think there should also be like titanium, that has the rarity of between gold and red stone and in like veins of 2-6, and have a light grey texture. It would be used for making more tools, and armor and also would last longer then diamond, but have the durability of between iron and diamond.
At first I thought that the copper was going to be like the rest of the copper ideas with it being about the same as iron, but your idea for it is good. Also, I think that emerald would be a good block, just for decoration, and be as rare as lapis lazuli is.
The only thing I see wrong is the copper - pure copper veins are extremely rare. They're normally found in compounds and separated through electrodeposition.
(Sorry 'bout before; this did look like it was totally off-topic, and the stuff about non-gem minerals was buried halfway down.)
(I'm a little confused. I thought I put most of this stuff on another thread with only a link here; the forum search didn't find my post; then I just found my post and I don't know why search fails to bring it up; and now I forget what part I had just linked. I'll cut this down a bit.)
Decorative Stone
On my Gem thread, I suggest different colors of Marble, so you'd have more options on stone buildings. My whole aim with the decorative blocks is Visual Variety... and enjoyable breaks from the monotony of mining. Seriously, there's so many minerals to choose from, it seems a shame that we've only got two types of Stone.
Useful Minerals
One of the things I love about Minecraft: Education by osmosis. My 7-year-old nephew knows the words "obsidian" and "cobalt" from playing this game (with the Xtra Ores mod). So long as we stick to real-life minerals, Minecraft can educate without being explicitly educational.
From "every game I've ever played ever," I suggest the addition of at least Copper and Silver. Some people say that Copper doesn't occur by itself, and should be found in alloys; you know, I think I'd like that. You find some miscellaneous ores and have to refine them in some fashion to break up the composite and get at the pure minerals.
Actually, it turns out that most metals look practically the same: lustrous grey. The ones that differ are Copper, Gold, Nickel (grey with a gold tinge), and Osmium; I'd vote for Osmium in the game (it's a pretty blue-grey), except that it's toxic and I can't find a good Minecraft use for it.
But here are some minerals with potential uses. I'm frankly not clear on the uses, let alone which are only possible due to modern technology, but here's what my Wikipedia hunt came up with:
Talc: Softest mineral; resistant to heat, electricity, and acid; used as Chalk and in ceramics. A common compound is Soapstone.
Gypsum: Used as an ingredient in Plaster (which can be used for fireproofing), gesso (white paint base), or mead, or as Fertilizer or calcium supplement. Also a building material in areas where they suddenly lacked Wood. Alabaster is a gypsum variant.
Feldspar: A common rock, mostly used in making glass more durable. Also used in ceramics.
Limestone: For construction, a calcium source for livestock, white pigment, or an ingredient of cement and mortar.
Halite: Rock Salt! Makes salt domes.
Sylvite: Potassium fertilizer. Found near Halite.
And Sandstone apparently makes a good Grindstone.
I looked at a bunch of other minerals, but didn't see anything particularly useful that didn't require a lot of refining. I'll look again later.
As for some refining we actually could do:
Metal Alloys
How is it this game has Iron and Carbon (Charcoal) but no Steel?
Also, it'd be fun to experience the Bronze Age. That's Copper + Tin.
Other possibilities:
Copper + Zinc = Brass, for plumbing, instruments, ammo, gears, and locks.
Gold + Silver = Electrum (I'm not sure what it'd be used for besides coinage).
Gold + Nickel/Palladium = White Gold
Bronze + Lead = Pewter (apparently - it's Tin + Copper + Lead)
Decorative Gem Blocks
All the Wool colors, but now they're immune to fire and resistant to Creeper blasts. Also shiny! More info on my post in the Mod Suggestion forum. But I think they'd be cool in vanilla too :smile.gif:
(Again, sorry 'bout before. I guess I was more tired last night than I thought.)
My YouTube channel is currently on hiatus, but I hope to get back to it at some point. Content is fairly random, but can be enjoyable, and is mostly game footage (mostly random Minecraft clips) from my nephews and me. Most popular MC vid so far is the one Vechs laughed at on Twitter!
Off topic- Kilyle just posted random crap on this thread.
I see what you mean. The stuff about ores is buried halfway down my post and it doesn't look like it's on topic at all. Sorry 'bout that.
I fixed it up. I'm not sure what my brain was thinking last night. My post is still kinda long and I might shorten it up later but at least it doesn't look like crazy random gem talk anymore :smile.gif:

ahhh it's good to see civilised people and not trolls
Sometimes the only way to save face is to forget about saving face and just apologize?
But yeah. When my contribution looks that haphazard, I own up to it.
Now the question is, why is it that this thread and my Decorative Gem Blocks thread don't show up on either forum search or My Content? I've had to go post a help request on Forum Help over this. It's weird.

Here are some minerals that should be added to the game:
Agate:
A bluish-green color, harder than iron but softer than diamonds. Can be used as decorations or as tools.
Copper:
A orangish-gold color, very soft metal. Can be used with redstone to make wires, which need only 1 power source.
Quartz:
A white, transparent color, hard as agate, can be used to make stronger arrows.
Magnetite:
A deep black color, a bit less harder than quartz, can be used to make magnets.
Granite:
White with black spots, not very hard, used to make buildings.
Pyrite (Fools Gold):
A golden, glossy color, hard as gold, used to make gunpowder.
If you like these ideas, leave a comment. If you have more suggestions, tell me and I will add it (and give you credit for the idea)
Durability and how long it lasts are the same. Brand new leather armour is just as good as brand new diamond armour, it just wears out faster.

On-topic- I really don't want too many ores in the game. Some of the ideas are good though.
Intel Core i3 550 @ 3.2 GHz, 6GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT430 1GB, 700GB Hard drive, Windows 7 ( Yeah my computer isn't the best XD)
