Hey, Im thinking of ordering a minecraft server from a good company that my friend works at. Instead of slots though, it asks me how many Megabytes I want to register with (Lowest is 512mb). The server I intend to run will be a mostly vanilla beta survival, with maybe like 1 or 2 small mods (Like instabreak or something). The MAX amount of players I would ever think to have on would be 8. Usually thought it would be around 4.

How many megabytes would I need to run the server with no lag? Thanks :)

If you are attending to have a smooth running server I would run it with 1024MB or 2048MB although even 512MB would run the server with little to no problems at all. But I guess it is always a good idea to run a server with more ram than you actually just incase anything decides to eat up your memory.

well, actually it higly depends on your connection speeds.

im hosting my server on 768 MB, but it has 100Mb Connection with internap bandwith and i can hold 24 players + over 20 plugins with no lag at all.

It will be okay if you do not apply any hardcore plugins.
