Mining Drill Mod

Redstone is good, but it isn't very practical. Notch intended for it to allow you to "automate your world", and yet there is no real use for it other than making things that look cool. The Mining Drill mod fixes that.

This mod allows you to create four types of mining drills. When activated by redstone, they will continuously mine down until they reach an impenetrable block. Each drill is crafted with a drill bit, so you'll have to make one of those first.

You can make iron :Iron: , diamond :Diamond: , gold :GoldBar: , or obsidian :obsidian: drill bits.

Before you can craft the drill, you'll also need to craft a redstone power cell.

After you've crafted all of this, you're ready to make a mining drill!
Posted Image
Each mining drill is different.
:Iron: The Iron mining drill is easiest to make, but it mines slowly and cannot penetrate obsidian.

:Diamond: The diamond mining drill mines faster than iron and is able to penetrate obsidian.

:GoldBar: The gold mining drill mines fastest, but cannot penetrate obsidian.

:obsidian: The obsidian mining drill mines slowest, but is able to penetrate bedrock!

If you mine a drill block, you'll get 0-1 drill bits.

(Ignore the redstone torch. The recipe requires a power cell now)

Installation:
1. Install Risugami's Modloader
2. Install Flan's Unofficial ModLoaderMp Client Verison
3. Install CubeX2's CustomStuff 1.7.2.1
4. Put the drillmod images into your minecraft.jar
5. Extract these files into your .minecraft/config folder
6. ???
7. Profit!

Warning: This mod will crash if you place a mining drill on top of tall grass.

Is the last screenshot a mistake? It says just a redstone torch instead of the redstone cell.
It's a very nice idea and hasn't been made too complicated like the industrial mod.

Do you recover any blocks it drills?

"Notch intended for it to allow you to "automate your world", and yet there is no real use for it other than making things that look cool."
This isn't true at all. It is used for tons of things other than making things look cool. Have you seen some things people make with it? They couldn't do that with other blocks.

It is a good mod, but I don't quite see the practicality of it. Wouldn't all the minerals dissapear before you grabbed them?

The minerals won't dissapear. They appear as pickup items, just as if you had mined them. Just dig down to the drill to collect them.

Unless your drill hit lava at some point. Which brings me to this: what happens when it hits lava?

Exactly what you would expect: The drill goes through it and allows all of the blocks it has mined to burn.

Mining drills may be easier, but they (intentionally) have drawbacks.

I'd actually expect the drill itself to burn aswell, seeing it's made of cobble mostly.

Cobblestone doesn't normally burn, so why would it in a drill?

True that it doesn't when placed down, but it does when dropped in lava. But oh well, I was just asking so there wouldn't be any unexpected drill-losses ;)

Made a banner for you. It's not great, but you could maybe use it until someone more skillful can make a nicer one! :)

Thanks, I've added the new one :)

Also, a general question to anyone who may make videos... want to review this mod?

I'm rendering one now, but as I said, my mic is broke, so it's just text. The video should be up in ~10 minutes!

However, I managed to mess up some how and accidentally spawn one which is on by default (no need for redstone) but I just said it was started by a hidden torch.

EDIT: It's not exactly a review, more of a tutorial ;)

EDIT 2: Video up! Be sure to watch it in 1080p.

Great, thanks!
Also, just to let you know, the ones that include [ON] in the tooltip are only obtainable through TMI. The craftable drills turn into those once you power them.
Thanks for the video! I'll add it to the main topic ASAP!

O. I don't use TMI, but I did however use the SPC command '/refill' so maybe that's how it happened..
