I want to make water with lighting under it, with ice, I'm trying to make an ice rink whenever I place a ice block, it melts!
Here's the problem:

If there is light near the ice block.. It melts yeh
It's with natural ice blocks and user created ones. Put the light source somewhere else.

EDIT: Seeing from the pic. It's right next to the block.
Try to place it one or two black father away from the ice blocks

Light melts ice and snow. Even from glowstone.

Ice melts when its near light (glowstone, jack-o-lantern, torch)

It would be cool if player placed ice didn't melt though

It's not a bug, first of all you can't actually get legit ice blocks without a mod/hack.

Ice melts near any light source (except sunlight), user placed or not. You cannot actually change that. Place the glowstone further away, enough for it not to melt.

WEll. Ice blocks placed by user is the same as natural found ones. It's not a bug. It was always like this. SO you need to build what you were trying differently. Maybe glowstone father down or flying above it?

There is no adventure mode... If you know this, then why are you asking? I played minecraft before half blocks in creative mode, before survival mode even started, so saying when you started doesnt really change anything considering ice was implemented in alpha, when a large amount of players were signed up.

Might be because the ice has the slippery feat, allowing you to slide, while glass does not.

@OP: try placing your iceblocks far away from the light, you'll notice they won't melt then. If you want illuminated ice, you don't have a choice but to place it about 3 blocks (or more?) above the light.
It doesn't matter wether it's ice from creative, natural ice, or harvested ice (with silktouch you can get iceblocks). When any form of ice gets near a lightsource other then the sun/moon it melts. Best way to find the radious is to place a lightsource on top of a field of ice, and see how far it melts. Once you do that, you know how far away the light has to be to prevent melting of ice.

Short form: Ice is ice, and user-placed ice is identical to natural ice. It melts when exposed to any lightsource (except sun) Yes I red the part that you know how ice melts, yet you ask how to make the illuminated icetrack. To make it work, understand it (place the ice outside the meltradious of your lightsource)

Can't you enchant your items now with soft touch or what it's called to get iceblocks?

If you already know the solution to your problem, why did you ask? User-placed ice melting to heat isn't a bug, it was programmed and meant to be that way.

If you move the glowstone down a block and then have a layer of pistons between the ice and glowstone, you still see the light but the ice isn't affected.
