This is the first map in a series
Part II
Part III

Year 1934

You are a former police detective from Boston arriving in the town of Calmere to see your friend who was sent here to replace the previous school teacher. As you step off the bus your adventure begins...

The map and the story are largely influenced by H.P.Lovecraft's books.

Here's a warning: This is not a normal adventure map, it relies heavily on roleplaying and living into the story so cold blooded fighters may be dissapointed.

All rules, the custom texture pack and story is included in the download

*If you want really good atmosphere then use a mod that lets handheld and/or dropped torches emit light as well.
*Also if you can in any way, I suggest disabling creepers or turning off their block destruction, as they can and will ruin your game if they happen to explode in a wrong place.

IMPORTANT: To play this level you must have at least the 1.9 v1 pre-release jar. If you already don't have it then just google it. To turn off the creepers I used zombe's mod pack 1.8, it worked without conflicts.

Suggestions:
The level can be played either solo or on multiplayer (although I'm not sure if the SMP even works with 1.9 yet)
Best experiance is achieved playing solo, the chests contain 2 sets of items, so if you are playing solo just take one set. Also as the new health system is heavily changed by the hunger, you will probably be finishing this with stacks of food, for a bigger challenge you may just take less food with you.

Constructive critisism is very welcome, if I'm going to make more maps like this I want your feedback to make them more enjoyable for everyone. Also If someone has any good ideas or wants to help me you are more than welcome, just send me a personal message. As making everything for the map (the map itself, texture pack, whole story etc.) takes lots of time, some things may be a bit unpolished and I wanted to get this out before halloween. Thanks for reading through all of this, hope you enjoy the game! ;)

Download link: http://www.mediafire...0iyw67tf0ted9a0

Installation

Drop the "Calmere MA" folder in your .minecraft saves folder

Put the texture pack .zip in your .minecraft texture packs folder (DO NOT UNPACK IT)

You can access your .minecraft folder by opening your appdata folder. (Start menu -> Run -> Type in "%appdata%" -> .minecraft folder should be there)

Progress on the sequel

As many said they really enjoyed the map I have been working on a sequel. The first one was not so much based on the game "Call of Cthulhu: DCotE" as it was on the whole Lovecraftian mythos. The new one will be more similar to the people who have played the game, some may see it as a ripoff, but I'd like to present it as bringing an excellent story to the minecraft universe. I will try to finish a trailer as soon as possible, but I have also been working on the map itself from my free time and it's becoming more and more complete.

The sequel is finally out!

Thanks, when testing the level I also got the feeling that I may have made it a little bit too easy, but as the point was to use the enviroment and story to create a scary atmosphere rather than spawning loads of mobs everywhere, I think it is pretty balanced.

Added to my review queue by request. I probably won't get a chance to play it until early December tho. I'm pretty backlogged.

Based on the Yogscast video I've watched so far, the map seems interesting enough! I do like the way you made the notes, the environment looks creepy enough, and using Snow Golems as NPC's is a nice way to add interactivity. Overall, good job!

Is English not your first language? If not, please do not create maps in English. Every single note had horrible grammar and gave me a headache. Attention to details, son.

Indeed English isn't my first language. Also I wrote down the notes in notepad (no spellcheck) at night as I was going to leave town and wanted to get this up before halloween. I hope you do understand most of it, probably going to spellcheck everything next time before posting.

Thanks for the feedback.

Edit: And yes, before the yogcast video was released I had 84 downloads, now it's early a thousand.

I am really sorry then for what I said. It was pretty rude...please forgive me.

Otherwise the map is great. Just started playing with a pal and it is fun. :-)

I usually don't bother playing through the adventure maps that the Yogscast reviews, because I've already seen it but this one intrigues me and I like the Lovecraft influence. Kudos for that!

If only it wasn't required to have the 1.9 PreR. I've been trying to stick with 1.8 till my favorite servers update, but we'll see. :P
