You can't have animals despawn at an insane rate and have animals barely spawn, that's just ridiculous. Cmon Notch.

I think animals should spawn like pigs did in alpha considering the animals despawn too fast.

I hate it too!
I only find animals in swamps! :(
I spent my time destroying 100 dirt with a torch... :)

It also makes having a farm impossible, which is just as unrealistic as the really fast spawning that used to be included.

in 1.8, notch made it that animals DONT despawn. Well I think. My farms do just fine and at the moment I have a farm of around 35 chickens and they DONT despawn. It could possibly be a bug but if it is, its the best bug ever.

Can't blame you for that. I wish I had that bug.

Am sure this was a bug as from what i remember Notch added code so that Once Animals have spawned they dont Despawn but No more will spawn.

It was done so that if you want more to spawn you Have to breed them and not endlessly kill them, you will eventually run out of animals if you dont breed them

best option then, once you shear them kill it, if you want to gather wool you will have to create a sheep farm

what i tend to do is just gather 2 sheep, make a 10x10 fenced pen, breed them, when you hit around 6-8 sheep breed, sheer the adults and kill them, once the baby grows repeate you have an unlimited supply and you can repeate it once/twice a day if you time it correctly

Then YOU'RE bugged.

I have a whole ranch, and have had very little problems.

Anyway, complaining now that they CAN'T despawn really? REALLY? No, it's fine as is, in fact, it's great, because you can have proper farms, you can breed in 1.9pre, it's like a real freaking farm.

Also, just to clarify, they can respawn; it's just ridiculously conditioned to the point of near-impossible.
What happens when the Universe divides by zero?
It gets a result.

Animals don't despawn as of 1.9, which makes having farms possible.
You're obviously playing 1.8, which includes less rapid animal spawning, but doesn't include 0% animal despawning.

Uhh, in 1.8.1 I moved 200 blocks in the Nether (so 1600 blocks on the overworld), mined and built a base there, gone back, and no animals that where there previouly despawned. In fact, a cow respawned. And it had more than 15 animals there.

Animals should naturally breed while in the wild

The new animal spawning system is better than the old one imo. If you don't want any animals, you can just kill them. If you want to breed animals, you can feed them with wheat, which is a reward for making a wheat farm. Earlier, you just went out of your house and animals randomly spawned and despawned, so if you traveled a bit, you got more pork, than you could use and it had no negative effect. Animals were kind of useless after you had collected lots of pork, wool, leather and feathers.
