As many of us would know, castles are great. The way that you can use a castle for everything you could ever need and could be completely self-sufficient would make it one of the most, if not the best buildings in mine craft you can make. I have decided to make this guide to show less experienced player the ins and outs of making a caste/manor/fort.

Main building materials

Wood- i find that making a castle out of wood gives it a sort of posh feel to it. I suggest only using wood if this is your intent of purpose e.g you want to make yourself a manor summer home on the beach

cobblestone- Cobblestone show that you mean business, although it is not very visually appeasing it represents that you want a castle not only to live in, but to do everything in it

stone, "smooth stone"- smooth stone shows that you are a mix of wanting to be visually appealing as well as having hardcore efficiency. The main problem with it however is the sheer bulk of resources needed to created a large amount of this material.

dirt-  if this is what you make your walls out of il be amazed

blocks of resources- using blocks of resources such as iron, gold and diamond as the main material simply shows off to others that you are either the most addicted person to minecraft ever, or you are using creative or TMI mods. You can still use in small quantity for visually appealing things (statues etc)

Types of castles

in my personal opinion, there are 3 main types of castles

1. visually appealing with minimal-medium real use ability
2. not great looking but with medium-high real use ability
3. Little to no visual appeal but with high-extreme real use ability

Note: you can integrate castle designs so that they can have high on both visual and real use or however you want it to be.

1.1 Type of building: manor

A manor should consist of several large open spaced rooms mainly based for visual pleasure (art gallery, library, floral display, master bedroom etc). I find the best material to make manors of is wood, due to how it gives the manor a posh feeling, as the floor and general design is meant to do.

1.2 manor: types of rooms/features

i cannot give any detailed design on how to build the actual rooms inside the manor, but i will give you some types of rooms you can build.

.grand entrance
.outside pool
.bridge (with a moat)
.grand staircase
.observation platform
.floral display room
.art gallery
.kitchen (can combine with a forge)
.master bedroom
.storage room

2.1 type of building: castle or fort

the castle/fort should be built mainly of cobblestone and have many different security mechanisms along with a few base survival areas. the main purpose for this building is to keep yourself safe at night and day and still be able to do everything you want to do.

2.2 castle/fort: building and features

as before i cannot give any detailed room designs, only the types of rooms

.curtain wall (linking towers)
.bridge (if using moat)
.crenelations on curtain wall
.wide battlements
.narrow slits "death holes"
.piston induced mob killer
.inner and outer bailey
.inner wall
.keep (very large)
.farms (tree, sugar cane, wheat and maybe mob)
.battle arena (linked up to a mob spawner or mob farm)
.underground vault
.cobblestone generator
.archery range
.storage room
.master bedroom
.fountains (in middle of inner bailey)
.mess hall
.large kitchen
.gran dining room
.great hall
.office area (add a fireplace)
.underground mine
.port (if connected to ocean
.underground railway system
.throne room
.small village (in outer or inner bailey)

3.1 type of building: grand castle

the grand castle should dominate the landscape, it should be massive and imposing. This castle show that you are the master of all around you in the world of minecraft. Made out of smooth stone it should be massive, extending hundreds of blocks high and be the envy of all others.

3.2 grand castle: rooms and features

.multiple dining rooms
.large fireplaces
.large ornate windows
.built on a floating island (if permitabble)
.grand hallway
.grand garden
.giant pool
.large library
.Master bedrooms with adjoning bathrooms
.doorbell (make it sound nice)
.storage area
.large balcony
.tennis courts (visual only)
.tall and thick curtain walls
.large, rounded towers
.massive vault
.emergency tunnel system
.elevator shafts
.minecart station
.massive port (complete with wharves and trading towns)
.city or village within sight
.archery range (pretty it up)
.royal fight arena (spleef arena)
.large wheat farm
.large reed farm
.giant aquarium
.nether portals

-thanks for reading-

i might post more if i come up with more ideas or more ideas are told to me

the thing is, i dont have the time to do so. As i stated above i will not go into detailed blueprints of rooms is because i usually make rooms on the go and have no ready-made idea of what i will build.

An easy way to build a castle is to make 1/4 of one then copy clone it in MC edit and the flip and mirror it in till you get a whole castle! Works every time. Also MC edit is awesome!

the whole idea of this guide is not to use cheats or hacks like MC edit. what would be the point of keeping your items safe if you could just spawn them into the game again? and besides, having a castle that is an exact replica of itself would narrow down the looks, types of rooms and general fell of the castle.

The biggest problem I had when I was building a castle was I had so much empty space I just couldn't figure out what to do with.

My wall design was very functional yet aesthetic.  I hit it with some TNT and it was able to stand up rather well.

The keep:

First floor had the throne room, which could be locked down.  A lever on the second floor would close the two double doors into the keep, lock the three doors out of the throne room, and pull the stairs down to disallow access to the second floor.  The was also a library and quite a bit of dead space

The second floor had barracks, a way to small armory, quarters for the captain of the guard war room, and arrow loops able to rain down on anybody who gets into the throne room.

Third floor was the dinning hall, and kitchen plus a LOT of dead space.

Fourth floor had the bed rooms, and was never finished.

Discard women, acquire cobble.
Not sure if it still works. But you can use Ladders as sort of a way to get up higher places. - - Quoted from a post by Unit7 :P

Ok this is to everyone that has been asking me to start making a castle design and posting the pictures on the guide. I have decided that i may as well do it to help out those who still need an idea for their castle. I will try to post every week if possible of my progress, room designs ect ect.

I'm not great at building because I hate taking the time. Great guide though
