I finally got the materials for an Enchantment Table, but I need more EXP to use the higher level ones.

Right now, I've got a 1-block hole in a Zombie dungeon that I'm killing them through, and the orbs come right to me. I was just wondering if there was any faster way other than this? xD

well the idea is not to farm exp but instead earn it legit by killing things out in your adventures.

Build a tower (NOT SKINNY ONE) and have 2 floors, the top floor being 2 blocks tall and the bottom floor being rather tall. The top floor have a 2x2 hole so they can fall through. They will fall and land, and end up having really low (try for a while and you can make it so they will be 1 hit kill) and then just slaughter them really easy.

I'd go for the mob tower idea.

Brotip:  Make them drop enough to knock them down to low health before you fight them, so you conserve sword materials.

Oh, the guy above even suggested the fall damage as well.  Oops.

I'd have to disagree with you entirely.

Make a spawner without a grinder. Then just leave one hole where you can hit them with your swords and exp flows out.

Spider spawner, surrounded by pillars 1 block apart. Spiders can't reach you, hit them with your sword.

I suggest you check out this video, you might have to skip a few minutes in:

If you can find a zombie spawner (Works best) you can easily make a super- effective EXP farm like this guy does in the video. It's very easy to do. This is basically what XinwxHleak said but using a spawner which is far better (IMO)

It does require you to wait or go AFK for a bit though.

all you need to do is find a zombie spawner, dig 4 blocks out and dig 8 blocks away from the spawner (I'm horrible at explaining, see video) then have water push the zombies 8 blocks to a hole that falls about 20 blocks. The zombies should be one hit with a stone sword (You will need a lot of them)

You must also make a safe platform where you stand so the zombies try to attack you, falling into the hole.

At the bottom of the hole is a small area where you can kill the zombies safely, you get there via a ladder or something.

So yeah, I'm AFKing as I type this and it's a very easy way to gain EXP, no more killing pigmen @ the nether. :P

Wait until there's so many zombies that your FPS drops below one and throw a Splash potion of Healing at them.

Simply go outside where it's dark and kill things. A Wolf pack is very helpful. :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond:

I spot a flaw. This is a good idea, but you will need to have some way to get them to fall in the 2x2 hole. Mobs dont jump off cliffs, either put signs around the inside of hole (they think it's a block and fall down) or find a way to spawn them and get them to fall in water flows that bring them to the hole. O, and around a 22 to 23 (24 will probably kill them) block fall, it will leave them with one heart for an insta kill. have fun :)

I wouldn't make an exp farm, I would just go out every night and slay monsters.

i usually don't mind using up my sword for exp farming. so my xp farm is a zombie dungeon boxed in with one fence gate door. i found out xp orbs go right through fences. i was using a solid block barrior before. but pretty straight forward and simple. i don't care for wasting a ton of time to build a mob trap, as long as i have a zombie spawner i'm good.

i perfer zombies even if most drops from them are useless, they at least can't climb walls, or shoot you.

interesting, i was wondering what was with all the sign use in mob traps nowadays, didn't know the mobs mistake signs as solid blocks.

Breed chickens in a confined area. With the eggs and the normal breeding method(eggs don't generate XP tho) you can very quickly create a HUGE flock. Then periodically walk through swinging your sword willy-nilly. Basically double experience for virtually no effort.

First things first you ALL are noobs Posted Image if you want an OK spawn trap and want 30 levels In 15 minutes + drops use something like this sorry I couldn't find the tutorial but skip to about 11:00 and watch him make it it is extremely easy to make and lots of drops and xp i have this design in my single player world and smp server and they both work great.

For something a little more challenging but gives lots more xp use this. It is an Enderman farm design that is very efficient because there is no other place for mobs to spawn than in the trap. You will get to level 30 in under 1 minute! Works great in my single player world.

For the super ambitious use the crazy all nether mob trap this is way unnecessary but really cool and can be slimmed down but is as fast as the Enderman farm and gives TONS of loot. The enderman farm and the nether trap design were made by the people of JL2579's server.

This is my two cents. I hope this helps! Posted Image
