This map is finally out!  Check out the new thread here.

Do you like the idea of Vechs' Super Hostile series but don't like fighting mobs?  Well, here's a map where peaceful difficulty is not only not considered cheating but recommended!  This map is still a work in progress (as I only have one intersection done), but I thought I would go ahead and share it so that I can get some community feedback.

===========================================
Peaceful CTM version X.X.X

The public release has been taken down until I am finished with the map.  Thank you for the initial feedback, and I look forward releasing this map when it's ready.

You need to set MCPatcher's water, lava, fire, and portal to "default", not "custom animated", or you get that ugly lava.
But a CTM on Peaceful sure is an interesting idea. How will it be difficult without mobs?

(I'd suggest you release early versions like that to friends only, and only ever give the public a complete map.)

Thank you sooo much! i love ctm maps, and i always try to play on at least easy, but i end up almost peeing my pants when a creeper blows up, and then i realize that it was the wool chest and i have to start all over.

I just played through the map and I am really enjoying it. I've always liked traps, and thought they were some of the best parts of the old Sea of Flame and Kaizo Caverns. I'm looking forward to the finished project!

So I played through it all. I hate to tell you this, but it was immensely BORING. And TEDIOUS.
Details in the spoiler.
Spoiler:
You need to hide your MCEdit brushing, make the player spawn at the spawn, and make it more difficult than, "get materials, bridge".
This is a grand idea performed poorly. Sorry if this comes along harshly, but it needs severe tweaking to be enjoyable.
Try getting some more testers - get friends on the forums to test it regularly.

(And no. I may be a CTM map-maker, but I would never attempt to plan such a map, not to mention release it. So no, I have no idea how this would be improved.)

>Implying CTM maps have to be difficult

Also, I don't know if you noticed, but it clearly states in the OP that it's version 0.1.4

Zap, you remind me of one of those purists who think peaceful difficulty should never exist in Minecraft and that it has to conform to all other games and that casual (AKA fun) games shouldn't exist.

Thank you for your response.  I actually do appreciate even negative feedback as it allows me to know how and where to improve.

As for some of your concerns,

Anyways, thanks again for the feedback.

I wish you luck on this quest! I tried(placing blocks by hand, no mods, Tyken's test world) to make a CTM like this, but ended up quitting. Without McEdit, it's hard to make highly ingenous traps that stay original WITHOUT huge redstone work. Plus, without mob spawners some areas become a tedious disarm obvius trap, disarm less obvius trap, bridge over, repeat combo. The problem is constantly coming up with new traps and not overloading the players all at once. Try using silverfish blocks to, that way if you use easy+ you get a suprise, and if on peaceful, you get no stone. Anyway, good luck!

Thanks for the tips.  Also, McEdit really does make life a LOT easier since you can add in a lot of new traps that you can't do without, such as falling sand/gravel traps or floating water/lava.  If you're really serious about making maps, I recommend learning how to use it.

Also, I updated the map in response to some of the earlier comments.

I'll try the updated version soon. Also, try having alot less bridging. It makes the game less exciting, more of a tedious bore. Use bridging when there's somethign to keep the players occupied to.

I have a few suggestions. #1, make the bed room out of nothing but bedrock and the trap, so they have no choice but to sleep, and make it far away from the rest of the map. #2, this is just a little thing, try making the signs in the intersection just a little bit farther apart. Right now it feels like the signs are cramped together. #3 Keep making this map, it's awesome.

You must have downloaded it before I updated it.

Hmmmm, I didn't think about that.  I'll try to rearrange some things to give more space.

Actually, in vanilla Minecraft I play on Peaceful all the time. Mainly because the very first time I played Minecraft I didn't know you could make a door and two creepers blew everything up.
Sorry if I came across as a troll/rager, because I'm sure I did. (This is why I don't do reviews!) I'm used to Vechs' CTM maps, where the difficulty is the standout point that makes them such great maps.

If you improve the beginning (a bedrock room would indeed force the player to sleep), hide MCEdit brush work, and reduce bridging, this will be awesome. Try using the "Noise" option with the brush, it makes hiding such work very easy.

With some changes, this map could be awesome. The sticking point is the ability to play on Peaceful, which I'm sure appeals to many. It just has to be executed right.

P.S. Also, the trick at the beginning won't work in Multiplayer, but most people probably won't mind that.

Please place your Monument one block deeper so we can build a pretty stair.

Oh and btw: I like your map. The Lava Islands are waay too easy but the pain water thing is nice (especially the beginning)

Sry for bad english

Edit: o.O an intersection trap??? Love it

I've been working on Intersection 2, and I went back to update some of the stuff in Intersection 1.  This is the reason I changed the Cave of Trials:

It's either my incredible stupidity, but after flying through the new Lava Islands (you're using the Noise option now!), the White Wool chest seems to have been replaced with more sandstone. I know because I took every chest after looting.

P.S. Also, the wall sign that says, "Intersection 2 coming soon", is disoriented. Always try place signs in-game, because MCEdit isn't great at auto-rotating signs.

You must have missed one because my girlfriend just went through that area when testing and said it's still there.

Ok, I have taken down the download link for private testing until the final release.  I will continue to update the OP as I progress.  Feel free to continue to discuss or recommend features of the map.

Thanks.
