If WMM is making your quality terrible, you're probably just not exporting the correct format. Pick 720p HD and you should be fine for quality. I spend half my editing time on compression and quality "control" since I'm picky. The files from Fraps are large since they are nearly uncompressed from recording. No one expects you to upload those.

Fraps and then Windows Movie Maker are EXACTLY what I use to make my videos, and I've not had a single complaint about video quality. http://www.youtube.com/user/Arkenor

Windows Movie Maker has a built in Youtube export feature. If you use that, then you ought not to be able to go far wrong.

Does the video inside of WMM look bad, if so, that's understandable. If the video has poor quality after you produce, you have to change what file your exporting it as.

Built in youtube feature in WMM?  Although I don't see it when I publish my videos, I use the "Windows Media HD for Xbox (PAL) 6.9Mbps" setting for my widescreen videos.  The output display ratio is the same as youtube 1280x720.

BTW I like your series Arkenor.  Go hawk mountain!

Thanks! I'm so glad that people like them :(

What version are you using?

My windows movie maker is version 2011 and has a great big YouTube icon along the top: http://www.arksark.o... ... -maker.jpg

I think it's the version you get with the Windows Live beta, though I'm pretty sure my old version had it too. If you're using the version that came with an older version of windows it might not have those features, but you can get 2011 for vista and Win7 here: http://explore.live.... ... r?os=other

XP users might be out of luck. Not sure if that version has been updated much in recent years.

Hypercam seems to speed up my videos and makes the sound lag (I blew up a creeper. 10 seconds later: SSSSsssss). I fixed it by recording the video twice (one for video and one for sound).
