That's really a good idea. I'm still 142, and got the in-game message that RC 6.8 was out. Luckily, I knew it was for past 142.

Key point of crash:

It turns out that you need to have two modules defined: both the chunk.loading module (obvious), and the automation module (not obvious).

However, they do work, the particles show up, and ... performance is yet to be evaluated.

Installed Forge 6.3.0.378 (running successfully).
But Forge doesn't see railcraft 6.8.0.0

Does the anchor cart work in 6.7 or am I just doing something wrong?

Experiment with changing the block id of either Forestry Machines or Railcraft Tracks. This issue was caused because you changed the block ids at some point and they happened to collide.

For chunk.loading, it sounds like that's the world anchors, yet the wiki puts that in automation with the tunnel bore. Is this just moving world anchors and anchor carts from automation to their own section?

For world, the config files discuss two new ores -- saltpeter and sulfur -- and mentions a recipe for gunpowder. But I didn't see this discussed on the wiki at all.
The only thing I could see in the config file was that saltpeter and sulfur, plus coal dust, make gunpowder (shapeless?), but coal dust seems to be an IC macerator recipe. Additionally, since I'm using Custom Ore Generation, it wants to replace all ores -- meaning that if I were to use this, I have to tell it where/how to place them. With no docs, I don't know where to start.

For train, and this really confuses me: Apparently linking carts -- kinda the critical piece for automation -- does not work in SMP and is "unresolvable" -- yet no indication of what's the issue is given. What does work/does not work if I enable this? What are the tradeoffs?

ChunkLoading is just anchors, I should update the wiki.

World as you guessed is world gen. And its made using Charcoal Dust, not Coal Dust. Charcoal Dust is made in a Rock Crusher. The lack of info on World is because its kind of an easter egg, I'll probably document it eventually though.

Trains was/is funky, your mileage may vary, but it should work for the most part. Its enabled by default these days.

Carts look at the track underneath them when travelling. They only do this once per tick, if they are moving more than one block per tick, they can skip completely over corner tracks.

Hmm... that's a derp on my part. Left the registration code in Automation when I moved it.

Worked last time I tested it.

Note that it may need to cross a chunk boundary before it starts working.

Got a "small" problem:

I updatet my vanilla server from 1.4.2 to 1.4.5 and some mods, your railcraft was one of them.

After i joined my server the first time i noticed, that my creosote buckets are now track relayer carts, coal coke is "steel helmet" withhout texture and steel is "steam". Coal Oven isnt working anymore at all, and if i hover over the middle of the UI of it, it says something about a "cart",
My first tought was: Must be a ID problem between server and client.B
But it isnt, they got exactly the same IDs in their config files.
Also my logs arent showing any id clonflicts with other mods.

As far as i can tell, all other mods are working fine (buildcraft, mystcraft, etc.).

So ... what coud it be?

Edit: Testing around in single player on creative works fine T.T. I dont get it.

Edit part two: Using a Pre 1.4.5 Backup of my Server World on Single Player gets the same problems. I woud say, the Ids got changed but the backup config got exact the same ones ...
I'm not a native english speaker, please bear that in mind.

Everything else is running fine and i dont get any errors. Except of some sort of Entity Rune Dust error, but since its running fine, i didnt payed attention to it.

Well, maybe i try to change every ID of the affectet Items to something else for testing purposes.
I'm not a native english speaker, please bear that in mind.

Is the rock crusher supposed to use power even when it's not running? I have it hooked up to a line of TE conduits and energy cell, but connected at three points (my conduit is a straight line for expansion purposes). On the gui, it seems to be constantly jumping between 1499 and 1500. Is this a bug?

Region 0.3 has a chunk loader. Those 4 regions are where I logged in, did some testing, and logged out; all 4 region files got played with while I was logged on. One stayed active until I shut down the server.

On server restart, it was not loaded.

ForcedChunks.dat, according to my NBT viewer, shows a ticket list of size 0.
Looking at the data in the file with a byte viewer, I see

Can we get a pipe that is like a iron waterproof but has the same capacity as a golden waterproof. Because it would be a lot easier to tube up because the gold pipes connect and iron pipes provide a bottle neck and allows only 2MJ/s to be produced

I have tried to make buildcraft work but haven't been successful, what is the correct version to use. I am not sure which version works correctly with Mc 1.4.4. I am finally getting the hang of railcraft now though. I am not running many mods but they are Forge 6.3.0.377, and rei's minimap with dokucraft textures.

Looks like i managed to fix my problem on my server map:

I deactivatet the coal oven in the config on the server, restartet it, logged in and it didnt bugged anymore (but didnt worked also since it was deactivatet).
activatet it again ---> runs fine and gives the right items.

I still dont get it, but as long as it works ...
I'm not a native english speaker, please bear that in mind.
