Our server the League of Science, now uses railcaft as one of the main mods. with it we plan to build a massive rail system out of H.S track, making it easier for our new members to travel to key points in the map. I personally find your mod quite enjoyable, it is an amazing addition to minecraft.(and thankyou notch for leaving the rail system alone so that CJ could make such an awsome mod!) :D.
Could you please add our server to the list of dervers that run railcraft?
Ok, I love this mod, and I had it working perfectly in 1.2.4 with all my other mods. Now for some reason after getting up and running on 1.2.5, when I play on my server, I can't place carts of ANY kind. they just disappear when placed on the track. Works perfectly fine in SSP but not SMP. I've made sure the mod is installed correctly on client and server, and made sure they're using the same config to take care of any ID conflicts. What am I doing wrong here?
Edit: Just tried it on a brand new server folder running ONLY Railcraft (with Forge obviously.) So I'm thinking it's a client-side error.

I'm using Forge 94 and I'm getting the disappearing minecart thing...
Try 90 or 97 then, there have been a number of changes to the spawn code in recent versions. All I know is that I have no issues in build 75 which is the one I'm currently developing with. =P
I'll update to the latest build before releasing the next version.

hah! I upgraded to 99 and when I got on my server there were two minecarts on my floor where I was testing last night. Guess it's working!
Today, I upgraded my server from 4.3.0 to 5.1.0. This move has changed all railcraft items in chests. Creosote oil is now Metal Post, for instance. I had Metal Posts in my Coke Oven ouputs. When burning a few wood in the oven, correct creosote oil was created. Tools, such as surveyor and tuner are now obsolete tracks.
Placed world items seems to be fine, from first look. But all chest storage is changed.
Is this a known issue? Is there some easy way to correct it?
I'm afraid that the current voice of opinion among my users is, that the best move currently is to remove RailCraft from the server mod list and forget about it. I would personally be sad about that, since I really like the idea of the mod.
Sounds like you didn't check the config files for changes before loading the world. A good policy when upgrading these mods is to keep a backup of your old config file when updating to compare the new one to the old one. Ensure that the block and Item ID's in the new config file match the old one, and ensure that there are no conflicts with other mods, when new IDs are added in an update.
I disagree wholeheartedly about your last statement. On my server, for one, Railcraft is an integral and indispensable part of our server's mod pack. Keep up the great work CJ.

Question for you, do you run other mods like IC2 or BuildCraft 2.2? I hear that some of the newer forge versions don't play well with IC2/BC2 and would hate to update only to find RailCraft working, but then having IC2/BC2 broken.
Yup, I use both, and more. Other than the rail cart thing and a rather bad bug with the latest version of ABO everything so far is fine with Forge 99.
Ok cool. I run IC2, BC2, RailCraft, EE2 (which is giving me problems now too), RP2, NEI, and a couple other much smaller mods. A pain to get them all working together nicely, but so worth it when you do lol.
EDIT: YES!! updating to 99 seems to have fixed ALL of my issues. IC2 works, RailCraft (and carts) work, EE2 is working, BC2 is working, Forestry is working! Awesome, all set now.

That should not have happened unless you deleted the Railcraft config files while updating. I would have hoped someone would have mentioned it before now if this was happening to everyone.
Simply dropping the config file from the 4.3.0 install into the 5.1.0 install should fix any issues.
If that fails, manually change the item id tags to match the numbers from the old file.
But the bottom line is that this issue is caused because the config file changed. The cause could either be deleting the config file while upgrading or a bug in my code that is changing ids between updates (wouldn't be the first time). All you need to do to fix it is to fix the numbers in the config file.
Well, I got good news, Covert. So far *knocks on wood* the new Train Boarding Tracks seem to be working perfectly. They seem to be de-bugging trains after using MCEdit. Haven't had one stop, act weird, or de-couple on me... yet.
I thank you for them. These things may be just what I needed to un-grief this thing.

hmm yes that 2nd crash only happens when I upgrade forge to .99. so something is not playing nice with it. I went back to my .94 jar and everything works fine except when I place a vanilla minecart onto a vanilla track... then it crashes with the first error.
Just tried a H.S. track with a "travelling cart" (probably from steve's carts) and got this:

Wow, it will take me some time to fully understand how Railcraft works. I don't usually like complex mods, that's why I have't tried BuildCraft, IndustrialCraft, etc.
Hi, I have a serious problem with this in SMP.
I started a new world, and with the help of Buildcraft, I built an enormous castle. I decided to have most other utilities and power plants a bit farther away, and figured I would easily reach them using Railcraft stations and cart systems. Sure enough, it worked. The thing is, I needed to use the Batbox, MFE, or MFSU carts in order to transfer the electricity with basically no energy drag. The problem is that whenever I try to place a batbox, MFE, or MFSU carts on a track, it does't work.
I am using Minecraft version 1.2.3, and the mods I am using are: EE2, IC2, Buildcraft, BC-IC2 Crossover, and Railcraft. The reason I can't update is because Buildcraft hasn't updated yet.
The strange thing is: I can place them in SSP, for some reason.
Please help!
Alright, I'm playing on a server a couple buddies put together. I put some wood into a coke oven, and it created Charcoal, and Obsolete rails(instead of Creosote oil).
We never used 5.0.3 in this server(although I had it installed first). The admin is offline for the night, so I can't check if he see's Creosote oil or the Obsolete rails.
My questions are:
1. Do ID's sync up, or do we all need to have the same config file, does this mean I may be the only one with the obsolete rails forming due to a bad ID?
2. If all our ID's do sync up, what do we need to do to fix this?

The new Forge entity spawn code introduced in 1.2.3 was broken until the 1.2.5 versions.
And for the record, Buildcraft has been updated for a while now.
Could you please add our server to the list of dervers that run railcraft?
Update your Forge to at least build 90.

Looks like you are installing Forge wrong somehow.
Just tried a H.S. track with a "travelling cart" (probably from steve's carts) and got this:

Edit: Deleting my config files fixed the issue.
The new Forge entity spawn code introduced in 1.2.3 was broken until the 1.2.5 versions.
And for the record, Buildcraft has been updated for a while now.
