Tired of having to install TMI or Spawner GUI to create a mob spawner for your map?

In Creative mode it should let you spawn a mod spawner. So you can make tutorials, arenas  and adventure map.

I think that you should make it so that when you place the spawner down, you can choose which mob you want it to spawn, be it pigs, endermen, or any other kind of mob. It makes it much easier to make things in creative without having to use mods or plugins.

P.S With the new snapshot (11w49a or 49) has got a new feature for creative mode! You can spawn mobs with an egg type thing. Is this what we want or do we want a Mob Spawner?

What would be the point? there's no way to set what the thing spawns anyway.

That's why they would add that feature to creative mode. Durr.

What would be the point of adding in a mob spawner? You can already spawn in the drops yourself.
The statement below is true.
The statement above is false.

I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
Unknown to death, Nor known to life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet, those hands will never hold anything
So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works

Yea, I know what you mean. But why would you want the mobs to spawn if you can just give yourself what the drop already?

Just so there is a mature response here instead of all the teen-somethings going "YES! DO IT!", I've got to ask, "Why this isn't a distinct possibility in Minecraft already?"

People create adventure maps all the time, and if you don't use MCEdit, then placing spawners is impossible, I can't even be the "Devil's Advocate" against this, because in creative mode you have access to lava buckets. Lava buckets! They'd be as grief-tastic as the mob spawner, There really isn't any reason why this hasn't been implemented yet.

So this is how it should work. You lay down an empty spawner. Then, you'd right click on it, and select the type of mob you want from a list, which shows all available mobs. You click on the mob, drag it into the spawner box, then the spawner model will appear inside, and flames will be wrapped around it like any other spawner.

The point is to be able to design dungeons, arenas and such in creative which you plan to convert to a SSP/SMP world. If you have a design in mind for an adventure map or a more intense combat setting where you can be sure to have the mobs you want, then being able to place monster spawners is essential, it has nothing to do with what the mobs drop, it has to do with giving yourself or others a more challenging combat experience in certain areas that need it.
