Speaking vs Whispering

Yes I know this has been suggested before, but what I am suggesting is a little bit different. It would be cool if we made speaking and whispering a little more realistic. When someone speaks, anyone in a range of lets say (arbitrary) 15m can hear the convo. Anyone outside of this range will not be able to see the convo. Now as for whispering, you would do the same thing but at a much smaller range (2m). No one outside of 2m can hear the convo, however anyone (i mean anyone) inside of the area would be able to hear the convo.

How would this be more realistic? Well we aren't telepathic, and back in the 1500s there weren't any walkie talkies/cell phones or what not, so anyone sharing secrets would have to talk close to one another. And in game you would see someone say, lets go here so no one can hear us etc... Plus being a spy will be a little harder cuz you have to get close to talk and others can possibly hear you so you would have to watch out.

Just an idea. What do you think?

Makes it realistic and I like that. People would probably "visit" each other at thier houses in MP survival since you can't talk global and whispering sounds nice too.

Generally i think the chat box should be remade or changed so you can scroll etc.

Minecraft, lovely Minecraft :D

Yes please :]

It'd be cool to have no global chat at all.

(Shouting would be good, though.)

I support this staple of roleplaying games.

This is a GREAT idea!!!!

I like the idea. Ops should still be able to talk to the entire server, but that's already implemented (/say).

I'm completely against this idea. If my friend is working on a sky bridge on the other side of the map, And I am building a giant megaman sprite, I don't want to have to get into a small little house with him so we can make lame cock jokes.

I suppose this would be cool for a goal based game like survival. Talking there would consist of making plans, Not just chit chatting.

I do like this idea, but Pimp does have a point. Still, I'm sure some sort of system can be worked out

I meant this idea in terms of survival. I would hate it as well if this was on creative. And creative isn't necessarily supposed to be realistic anyhow.
As for global chat, I dont think it should be eliminated completely but rather severly limited. Maybe, there is a long delay in recieving the message. Like a letter for example.

No scrolling if this is implemented- in real life you have to remember your conversations.

No global talk in survival. +1
But middle range talking and short range whispering should be in Creative, too.
You have to construct additional Spires!

Everytime a Tacle Spire is erected, one million potential children die.

Global Talk should only be available to OPs

I would like there to be long range conversations for non-op in multisurvival, shouting doesn't cut the custard.

I support this.
In survival.
Maybe have it toggle-able in creative.

Shout, speak and PM (Whisper).

Shout is global
Speak is local
Whisper is private (but travels globally because it's paradoxically cool like that)

Same method as how Habbo Hotel works (not that I play it anymore, but back when it only had a few thousand people online).
