Since diamonds are such a rare commodity, and in real life it is possible to make diamonds, albeit very little, I thought of a similar method in Minecraft.

Set off the TNT all at once, and for every 64 pieces of coal in the chest, you will receive 1 diamond.

64 coal for 1 diamond, might seem like a lot, but I believe it should still be hard to get, but just a little easier.  This is inspired by an actual method of creating diamonds.

Thoughts?

idea of producing diamonds is great, BUT how about :

u make small hole, bring bucket of lava to it, and simply drop there, lets say 10 coal, after few days we got 1 diamond!

Because then diamonds would be exactly worth nothing.

Not sure about the TNT method ive never actually gone out to kill creepers to get the gunpowerder but i dont think that this is too cheap for a diamond. Looks like a lot of hard work for a single one of those stupid things.

I honestly think you shouldn't be able to make diamond. It's easy enough to get diamond. It might end up being harder to get a lantern then 1 tiny diamond.

In other words, we need some way to craft lanterns, instead of just finding them... o wait...

My thought was that every 64 count stack would become a diamond.  So 6 TNT to make 27 stacks of coal a diamond.  So a full chest could put out 27 diamonds for 6 TNT & 1728 pieces of Coal.  Still hard & Rare, but a use for all of the extra coal.

My idea for creating diamonds was that you need to completely surround a coal ORE block with lava spring blocks on all 6 sides and then let it sit for a full day cycle. This means that you have to hold off from mining a coal ore, and then you need to find and transport 6 buckets of lava, carefully place them around the coal Ore block without dying when the lava pours on you, and then wait patiently before removing all the lava blocks again, and mining the newly created diamond Ore.

How about: Smelt an iron/gold bar using TNT for fuel?

I like the idea of using lava to make diamonds.  How about 1 bucket of lava as fuel in a furnace to turn a stack of 64 coal into one diamond.  If I remember correctly, 1 bucket = 100 smelts @ 10secs ea.  so 1,000 (Roughly 16 min) secs = 1 diamond.

To get  :D by using the method in which the lava surrounds  :D then do you have to be from 0-16 blocks from the bedrock???

Early day alchemists devoted their lives to discovering a way to create gold from common elements, if only this process worked in real life.

Why does everyone who has more than 700 forum posts think that they are some sort of 'deputy-moderator'?

Why is everyone on the Minecraft Forums so uptight? It's like a dictatorship. Calm down, it's just Minecraft.

Uhhhh those are 1 meter squared solid blocks of minecraft dynamite. I dont think it would make diamonds just blow all of your shit up. Plus coal needs to be pressurized to make a diamond not to get blown up. You should be able to make diamonds at certain pressures however. If a chest with a stack of coal in it is placed as low as possible and buried from bedrock to sky limit (with no caves in the way) it should work
