Skills
As most will know, in 1.9 upon leveling up you will gain some form of talent point, these are my hopes for what these can be spent on. Along with this I wish Notch makes a simple colourful GUI.

Mining
When you spend a skill point in mining, it would increase your chance to gain a double drop from mining ores. It would apply to any pickaxe and every ore. Starting at 0% and increasing by 3% per skill point spent.

The maximum cap being 30% from then on it would increase your mining speed.


Woodcutting
When you spend a skill point in woodcutting, it would increase your chance to fell the whole tree when hitting the bottom log, very much like Treecapitator. It would apply to any axe. Starting at 0% and increasing by 5% per skill point spent.

The maximum cap being 100% from then on it would increase your chopping speed.


Cooking
When you spend a skill point in cooking, it would increase your chance to gain a double cook from cooking food. It would apply to every food. Starting at 0% and increasing by 4% per skill point spent.

The maximum cap being 40% from then on it would increase your cooking speed.


Eating
When you spend a skill point in eating, it would instantly heal you for x% of the foods hunger renewal. It would apply to every food. Starting at 0% and increasing by 5% per skill point spent.

The maximum cap being 50% from then on it would reduce the food eating time by 2%.


Fishing
When you spend a skill point in fishing, it would increase your chance to catch a Golden Fish or rusty coin (possible new currency). It would increase the chance by 4% for coins and 3% for golden fish.

The maximum cap being 40% for the coins and 30% for the fish from then on it would increase your chance to catch normal fish by 4%.


Smelting
When you spend a skill point in smelting, it would increase your smelting speed per skill point. It would increase the speed by 4%.

The maximum cap being 80% and from then on giving you a 5% chance per point to smelt Cobble into to two stone and sand into two glass.


Farming
When you spend a skill point in farming, it would increase your crop growth speed per skill point. It would increase the speed by 5%.

The maximum cap being 50% and from then on giving you a 5% chance per point to gain seeds from wild grass.


Archery
When you spend a skill point in archery, it would increase your chance to instantly have your arrows returned. It would increase the chance by 5%.

The maximum cap being 50% and from then on giving you a 3% chance per point to knock back the target.


Redstone Engineer
When you spend a skill point in redstone engineering, it increases the distance your redstone currents can travel by one block. At level 10 you can place redstone up walls.


Swords
When you spend a skill point in swords, it increases the your critical strike chance. For each point spent in swords you gain 1% critical chance with swords.

The maximum cap being 30% and from then on increasing your swords range by 2%.


Blocking
When you spend a skill point in blocking, it gives you a chance to reflect damage when blocking successfully. Per point spent it increases the chance by 1%.

The maximum cap being 30% and from then on increasing your chance to dodge by 1%.


Agility
When you spend a skill point in agility, it increases your sprinting speed. It increases your speed by 5% per level the maximum being 50% from then on it increases your jump height by 0.2 blocks. At level 10 it allows you to pull your selves up walls very much like the MovePlus mod.


Swiming
When you spend a skill point in swimming, it increases your swimming speed. It increases your speed by 4% per level and reduces the effect of breaking blocks underwater by 4%.

The maximum being 40% from then on it increases your breath meter by 0.3 bubbles.


Let there be Light
When you spend a skill point in light, it increases your torch effectiveness. It increases your torch light effectiveness by 0.4 per block. Every 5 levels it creates a glowing aura around you increasing its light distance by 1 per 5 points.


Along with this more achievements for stats and rewards for doing achievements. This will give an incentive to aim for achievements now! e.g

I've seen some ideas already, and one of my problem's is this: Multiplayer. Seeds growing faster, smelting faster etc. is really gonna be hard to do in multiplayer.

I think that could be avoided to let the skills be more like an aura, than worldwide (only for the farming and smelting and such things)

new one:
redstone engineer
allows redstone to go UP blocks for a certain distance until you cant place
you CAN get 100% for that it also allows you to craft redstone fans they work like redstone torches but start off OFF when placed

  • Redstone Engineer - Redstone current travels one block further
  • Archer - % chance to get arrows back
  • Swords - % increase critical chance
  • Block - % chance to reflect damage

i have multiple problems with these...
what i want instead

Mining

Each level
+3% chance to gain a extra ore (when reaching 100%, gives +3% to "Another extra ore chance)
+1% chance to gain another extra ores
-1% time to mine

Each 10 level
+20% Durability for pickaxes and shovels

Level 50 (Max)
99% Chance to gain a extra ore
27% Chance to gain another extra ore
-50% time to mine
+100% durability for pickaxes and shovels

Woodcutting

Each level
+2% chance to recieve a extra log
+5% chance to recieve a sapling (stacks onto "Chance to recieve leaves" when at 100%)
+1.5% chance to recieve a leaves (stops when at 100%)
+10% chance to recieve a wooden plank (stops when at 100%)

Each 10 levels
+20% increase in durability for axes

Level 50 (Max)
100% chance to recieve a extra log
100% chance to recieve a sapling
100% chance to recieve leaves
100% chance to recieve a wooden plank
+100% increase in for axes

cooking would be here, but that skill is too complicated to track and people will take over furnaces so...no

Eating

Each level
-1% time to eat
+0.5% increase in recovering hunger bar

Each 10 Levels
+20% chance to recieve 2x food from Mobs

Level 50 (max)
-50% time to eat
+25% in recovering hunger bar
100% chance to recieve 2x food from Mobs

Fishing (incomplete, i would wait till there confimed fishes before completing this)

Each level
+2% chance to recieve a extra fish

Each 10 levels
+20% durability for fishing rods

Level 50 (Max)
100% chance to recieve a extra fish
+100% durability for fishing rods

Smelt... really, that just like cooking, dont make these two skills to do with a furnace, thats really complicated, and how would the people and Majong do the coding?

Farming

Each level
+4% chance to recieve 2x resources from farming wheat (stops at 100%)
+2% chance to grow a big tree with bonemeal use

Each 10 levels
+10% chance to not use a bonemeal

Level 50 (Max)
100% chance to recieve 2x resources from farming wheat
100% chance to grow a big tree with bonemeal use
50% chance to not use a bonemeal

Strength

Each level
+1% durability for armour
+1% chance to halve damage done from mobs (half heart damage is neglected but still causes knockback)

Each 10 levels
1 Extra half heart damage done to enemies

Level 50 (Max)
+50% durability for armour
25% chance to halve damage done from mobs
2 and half hearts damage done to enemies

Agility

Each level
+1% more speed
+0.5% chance to dodge attacks

Each 10 levels
-10% drain from hunger bar while sprinting
+5% speed while eating
+0.2 increase in jumpimh

Level 50 (Max)
50% more speed
25% chance to dodge attacks
-50% drain from hunger bar while sprinting
+25% speed while eating
Can jump 1 block higher

Dexertiy (Mispelt?)

Each level
+1% chance to not use a arrow
+1% chance to get a Critical hit

Each 10 levels
Range increased by 1 block
+20% increase in durability for all weapons

Level 50 (Max)
50% chance to not use a arrow
50% chance to get a Critical hit
Range increased by 5 blocks
+100% increase in durability for all weapons

Sounds like some really good ideas. My whole problem is the experience orb thing. Why would killing a bunch of monsters equal you being better at mining? Does something about caving in a zombies skull with a diamond sword relate to picking away at a block of obsidian or something? I wish you could gain skills by DOING the action you want to get good at. Makes a WHOLE lot more sense to me!

I understand, I think its fine being able to spend xp on anything imo :)

I if notch wil add skills i want my money back from minecraft cause its a sandbox game not an RPG. Thats makes minecraft Unique
