Find out what people are saying about Fetch Quest! (Warning: Items contained in spoiler tags contain actual spoilers. Scores provided by the reviewers can be found after their name.)
Review is done. (I'm on fire tonight, I did like 2-4 reviews!) (Do not except this to continue at this rate).
The map was amazing! Everything looked great. First map reviewed that I actually had to think a bit to complete the different puzzle. I really like your style of building. It was just so amazing just to look at everything.
*TIP* Add some combat, I haven't reviewed a single map yet where there were combat that was really fun and engaging.
This map deserves the Best Map So Far Award. So congratulation.
I would give this map a 24.9 out of 25 possible points.
Well I will admit I was lost at the start, I had no clue what on earth I was supposed to do. I spawned in the middle of the town with no story or background.
Until I looked at the map.. I found my way to your puzzle room and was absolutely amazed. The story behind your gatekeepers was fantastic, and really well made. I was impressed at the redstone work put into it, and the design of the room was flawless. Then I saw that giant nether portal and nearly cried. It was beautiful.
The puzzles were good fun and kept my interest quite easily. Well done, sir. One of, if not THE greatest map I have ever played.
By the way, how did you put a note on the map? That part really interested me.
ThomasLobo: 5/10 (And that's just the spawn town!)
There was a bit of a misconception on this review from the looks of it. I've contacted ThomasLobo about the note in the chest next to spawn, and I'm hoping to hear back with a full review. Until then, the following review is included for the sake of completeness.
Fetch Quest: It's a well-made map, a lot of buildings(houses, hotels, restaurants), but no goals, if you know what I mean. Right after you leave your home, you see a Town News sign written "Golden Helmet in Desert". If someone IS going to search for it, don't you think it'll be boring? Don't you think you should add more story, challenges, levels? When I first played this, I thought it'll be cool to play in a Multiplayer server, but not in a singleplayer survival game.

My second review! :biggrin.gif: 7/10 Story
The story of this map is short, but it's enough to start your adventure. So it gets a higher score :biggrin.gif: .I really love adventure map stories,so next time strain your imagination and make a better story :smile.gif: .
8/10 Map design
All the decorations and the design of the map were wonderful but I really think that you can do more. The Tower of the wizard inside was fabulous! The village was fine but kind of odd and creepy :biggrin.gif: . But it doesn't matter i really liked the map. :smile.gif:
10/10 Redstone
I thought that I am good with redstone but you are THE BEST :biggrin.gif:
You are extremely good with redstone! (bow) (there are maybe better than both of us but what the hell i really liked your work) :biggrin.gif:
6/10 Level design
The levels were good but some of them were pretty simple (for me :biggrin.gif:). I am an extreme person and i want a real challenge. But the ghast tower was awesome :smile.gif:
Combined score 7.75/10 The map was short but AWESOME so download this cool map HERE!
score: 7/10
yeah decend score. not low, but also not very high.
pros:
1. the maps. i was lost at first but when i read those it was mush clearer.
2. some great redstone work.
3. love it that some building had a real meaning(like the mines) not just empty.
4. i never found the helmet, but i searched for it.
5. there was some storieline but it wasn't perfect.
cons:
1. when i had crossed the river and opened the thingy there(well done by the way) i fell twice to my death really pissed me of.
2. place a chest with boats at the dock, because it is quite a distance to swim.
3. a bit to easy( but that can be because i didn't finish it)
just one more question, i went throught the portal and opened the ghast spawner room. was that the end because if it isn't i think that your score would be higher
This map has a lot of potential, and there was a good amount of effort shown. Unfortunately, a couple of things made this map just "good" instead of "great". Lets go over why this map got the score that it did.
Well, lets start with the architecture. There was some great architecture in this map. Many of the buildings had good exterior and interior design. It was clear that the creator took great care in the planning and execution of the buildings. The buildings fell short in one area, however. Most structures in the main town had nothing in the chests. They also had no imaginary npcs, which definitely affected the story. Which brings us to a big negative to the map, the story.
The story was extremely bland at first. You are supposed to get a jukebox from the other side of the lake, to spice up the interior of your restaurant. Exciting? Not really. So you get out of your restaurant, and head down to the town. There are plenty of houses, that all look pretty good, and have a couple interesting signs. Other than that though, there is almost no point to even look in the shops and houses. There is no nps, and nothing in the chests. There is nothing in the town that really strengthens the story, or even gives you an idea of where to go next. Ideas on how to make this more interesting can be found in the bugs/tips section.
The only clue you are given is, to quote the story intro, "You've been sent by your boss on an epic quest to grab a jukebox from that old abandoned courtyard across the lake". Old what? Where? These were the kind of questions I was asking myself. The only thing I could think of doing was to head out across the lake. But what part of the lake, and how far? I had to do some serious searching before I figured out what side I was supposed to exit from. I realize some people would have figured out what side to leave from almost immediately, but I was not one of them. My suggestion to the creator, would be to make this clearer.
After you make it to the other side, things start to get interesting. I don't want to ruin anything, but trust me, it gets better. The story gets improves, you actually get to do some puzzles, and even the architecture looks even better than it did before. It was quite a weird transition though, and left me feeling a little confused.
Overall, this map has plenty of room for improvement, but does will entertain you if you can get through the first half. With some serious fixes to the story as well as making it easier to cross the lake, it would be a lot better. I would recommend checking this map out, and if a solid update comes out, downloading.
Bugs/tips
-CHANGE THE NAME! Fetch Quest is a super boring and uninteresting name. Change it and I could see plenty more downloads in your future.
-Add npcs, with names, into the houses. It would make walking through the town that much better.
-Put items in the chest! It doesn't have to be much, or of any use, but it would give the player another excuse to explore the town.
-Add a scoring system? This one is your choice. Just note that it would give you something else to put into the town, and would make exploring that much better.
-There is a typo in the house behind Jain Mitch's house. It is on the second sign.
Score: 8.3/10
Creativity/Originality: 9/10
Storyline: 7/10
Adventure: 9/10
Action: 8/10
Review: First thing I have to say is: I couldn't finish. I couldn't get past the Guardians Posts and stuff in the Nether. I don't cheat so I left there. Second: VERY nice map. Everything that I saw was really nicely made, the Pigmen townspeople were a really cool idea and the redstone room was realy nice (the one with the giant redstone torches and such). So here's from the beggining:
I spawned and everything, the 'freezer' was pretty cool and the story just kicked off right away. The map notes are a really good idea, I've seen them before, but I still really like that idea. I looked around town, the sign about the missing dog made me laugh, and then a creeper almost destroyed the front doors of the zomb hotel, but I managed to back away in time. What I'm trying to say is: Really nice starting town. It took me a little while to find the dock, but that's okay, the look-out post helped with that (on the Seperatist Police place). I got to the ruins and the piston 'trap' was really good. Next in the redstone room, I was confused for a while on what to do, but eventually I got to the two rooms and beat the challenges (again, in the note-block redstone pulse room it took me some time.) I got past the room with all the graves and the portal and I got to the Nether OK, but after searching the town I just couldn't find any levers or anything to open the glowstone doors. But I could hear Ghasts from inside there, so maybe that's not a bad thing :tongue.gif: . But I had to leave off there so marks get docked. The Pigmen homes were really nice though!
Summary:
Pros:
- Starting town is nice
- Story tells you what to do straight away.
- Redstone work is really good.
- Story keeps you quite captivated and makes you want to continue and not give up.
- Pigmen town is awesome!
-VERY original, though I have seen some of the ideas before
Cons:
- Directions are not as clear as they could be in many places (like what to do in the two rooms off the redstone room, where exactly the tower/ruins are, etc.)
- I couldn't find the keys to the post.
Overall: Pros > Cons = Good Map. Not the best, but I would recommend it if I had been able to finish it.
So I have some questions:
1. How do you finish the map?
2. How does it end?
fun: 8/10
creative: 9/10
The Buildings are pretty build. The desert is way too ugly with all the cacti, may change this. Anyway this is pretty and big and just the beginning. Work on it and it will be epic!
overall: 8/10
What are you waiting for? That thing's not going to fetch itself!
PS. Make it a .zip instead of a .rar
People on mac like .zip better since they don't need an additional program to open them. (I know this because my backup laptop is a mac).

I'll be playing this later, but I have one big thing to say... CHANGE THE NAME! :tongue.gif:
I'd been reluctant to play this, as the name Fetch Quest really doesn't have an exciting name that would get you interested. It makes it sound kinda dull (no offence), and in turn just a boring, walk here, get that, kinda of map. I really really suggest changing it to something a little more interesting... Take something from your story, and use that. Just use something a bit more interesting, in my opinion :tongue.gif:

When I first made this map, I was playing with the idea of calling it something like "Forbidden Torches" or "The Banished Civilization." They describe themes from the storyline, but to me they just seemed like forgettable, generic Minecraft map names.
I settled on Fetch Quest because it describes the underlying motivation behind the indroduction: this map starts out as a simple fetch quest, and no matter what insane or convoluteed things happen to take your character off-track, the ultimate goal is still to get the thing and bring it back to the place.
So while it's true that the name is very unassuming, I find that it fits the map very well, and the fact that it stood out to you enough to download it means it's working to some capacity.
Thank you for your feedback, but I think I'll be keeping the name. Please enjoy Fetch Quest!
I too played this after Hollow Eyes. I think your sense of humor and story bits are great. The attitude/fun of your maps is just spot on. And I was impressed with the puzzles/redstone.
I'm not the biggest adventure guy though (wanna be able to break/craft) and couldn't figure out where to get the levers in the Nether.
Two things:
-You need to give more supplies, I went through the one sword in no time.
-You need to place this out of a normal MC world. Once I got stuck (esp in The Nether) I was baffled where to go since there were no boundaries. If it was an entirely original map, the goals would be more clear.
Excellent work though. I'm going to be on the lookout for your stuff in the future.

Thanks for the advice! I'm waiting to release an update of this one until the official 1.9 release so I can get villagers added properly, but these and a number of other balancing issues will be resolved as soon as possible.
Regarding the levers:
The levers used to open the graveyard room are supposed to be taken down and brought through the portal, as hinted to entirely too vaguely on the archway leading up to the portal ("bring forth the gatekeepers / their posts await them atop the abyss" or something similar). Hope this helps!
Hum... I died when coming back from the Nether... I spawned mid-air and falled in water... but I died...
It's an error that's been mentioned before. It will be corrected in addition to a number of other bugs with the official release of 1.9. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for playing.
