Welcome to Survival Lava Islands

Welcome to Survival Lava Islands. This map is intended to be a more challenging version of the original Survival Island map with exploration being encouraged primarily on the surface of the map, rather than underground. This means you can enter and leave islands as you please; there are no rules aside from no leaving the map boundries into naturally generated terrain. (The Nether's allowed though.) The map contains no dead-zones where Monsters can spawn and waste spawn slots so expect to be swarmed by dozens of Creepers, mauled by packs of Zombies and be knocked into Lava by Spiders and Skeletons.

Special thanks to Tyken132 for the Lava Map. If you want to get one of his Flat Maps then click here.

Forgot to clarify the rules. While this map is balanced around the Vanilla, it is entirely up to you if you want to use mods. The only real rule is no leaving the map and entering naturally generated terrain. The Nether is okay though. Working on a large, average difficulty dungeon for the map at the moment. The plan is that the further you roam away from your spawn point, the more difficult areas become, but you'll also find higher rewards in the more difficult areas.

Version 2.0 added to the OP.

Changes:

  • Desert Terrain added.
  • More hidden chests added.
  • Hidden dungeon added. [It's still a work in progress so it's much easier than it should be at the moment.]
  • Removed Cacti from Floating Island #2.
  • Removed Sand from hidden chest.

Cool video man.

I'll start work on the new version later. It's going to be a big update so it'll take at-least a week.

Sounds really cool, I'm going to download it. I have one question though, are you using any of the 1.8 update features?

You can play the map with either 1.7.3 or 1.8, but if you use 1.8 then you'll need to prepare yourself with Food before you go exploring the more difficult islands and you'll have a much more difficult time. I intentionally used no 1.8 blocks so you don't have to use 1.8.

I just finished play testing the map and I've got quite a lot to do to the map for the next update.

I've decided to release the new Version in two parts. Version 3.5 is now in the OP. Sorry about not adding the Tundra first, but when I started work on the Nether terrain it was leading in the poll. Now that Nether's added Tundra will be next. (You can already get dark wood.)

Changes:

  • Nether Terrain added. (Two islands, one mountain. It's the 'hard' terrain. It's still a WIP.)
  • Attempted to make every block type acquirable, although often well hidden. (This includes Watermelon. The only blocks I can think of that aren't obtainable are Gravel, Snow and Ice.)
  • Removed pure Iron Ingots from the Desert Biome. (Buckets are way too powerful in this map to be getting them that easily.)
  • Added more food and tools to the loot chests.
  • Added a larger floating island.

Hello! I'm going to do a Let's Play with my Friend, and this looks like the type of map we would want to play! I'm going to try to get this up onto Machinima Realm, this map looks like so much fun. Have a nice day :)

I was unable to do a LP with my friend because the spawn was bugged and we kept on falling in lava.

If I where you I would wait a while, because he/she is making more islands and all around more awesomeness as we speak. I think he/she will be updating it on a regular base for a while.
