My friend used to complain how every game is having the "craft" suffix at the end of the title when really only 3 major franchises have that name. Now he argues that Minecraft is the same thing as Garry's Mod, if not better. He even goes off to say that Garry's Mod can be modded to "play" just like Minecraft. I guess he can't accept the awesomeness of Minecraft.

So what do you guys think?

My brother gives the same arguments.

Just tell him Garry's Mod doesn't have mobs and tiered items.

Tell him Gmod is amazing.
Because it is.
However, Minecraft is just as amazing as Gmod.

Garry's mod can not be modded to play just like Minecraft. It can be modded to use a lot of memory keeping track of fixed entities made to emulate blocks. If Garry's mod tried to do what Minecraft does, Source would melt your CPU.

The two games are very different and should not be compared. Your friend doesn't know what he's talking about.

I agree.

Furthermore, I think the 3 "-craft" games are Starcraft, Warcraft and World of Warcraft. Actually, they are not as original as he believes. "-craft" suffix can either mean a vehicle of a particular kind or a skill of a particular kind (http://www.ldoceonli...ctionary/-craft). In this case, it just means the skill of roaming the stars or fighting a war or mining and survival. Those three franchises are great but they definitely have not invented "-craft". So I really don't see a problem with other games using "-craft" suffix.

I would like to inquire about how Minecraft may or may not affect the position of quarks relative to an electromagnetic force.

One day i'll finish this autonomous spy drone I started building years ago...
And like the baseless fabric of this vision, the cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, the solemn temples, the giant Screen itself, all of which we inherit shall dissolve. And, like an insubstantial pageant faded, leave not a byte behind.

. . . which would likely kill even the highest end machines if you tried to make a world the size of Minecraft. Minecraft maintains large worlds with optimized data structures and by only keeping the visible area in memory. Patching something together that wasn't designed for that purpose is likely to fail.

. . . and would he rather spend hours of labor modding Source, or would he prefer to play something already made?

Sources entity limit would probably fuck up if you tried to make Minecraft on it.

I like GMod, and I like Minecraft pretty much the same - they're both great games.
However, they're too different to be compared.
I has no friends :o

As much as I enjoy playing Gmod, frankly it's gotten a bit stale for me. and Minecraft has filled that void. Both games are equally as awesome, in their own ways. :P

On a side note, I have seen a few people attempt to build holographic minecraft-essque E2 chips with limited success.

If you have acces to Source SDK, then yes.

Actually no, not without a custom map. Good luck coding the physics for hacking away at regular maps.

You remind me of a dumb friend that asked me "What is the better between Borderlands and Fallout 3?".

Garry's mod != Minecraft

Never played gmod, but is that a sandbox game? Has it a random generated world 8 times bigger as the earth? We are talking about MC survival right.

As much as I like Minecraft, I'd say Garry's Mod wins. I mean, it has sooo much more stuff. But, Minecraft IS more user friendly, and it has a certain charm... And it doesn't need a really good computer to play.
