Memoirs of the Endermen
---Welcome to Memoirs of the Endermen, my first short story. Please take a read, it is my first remember so don't expect anything amazing. Thanks

Prelude
When I look around this world, I begin to feel as if I am the oldest thing alive here. I have lived for centuries, and when I see these young, happy animals - who turn away when I approach them - I feel alone. The truth is, contrary to the popular belief, I haven't always looked this way. I haven't always been this dark, angry beast. Once, many years ago, I was in fact, a human being. I had a wonderful life, with an impressive house and astounding sculptures. But, I mistakenly left everything like that behind, along with my happiness. This is my story, the story of how the I became an Enderman, and how the our fear of us is totally irrational. So please, settle down while I recite my tale. I have a feeling you are going to enjoy it.
CHAPTER 1
Spoiler
Where was I?
Who was I?
Why was I?
Questions were whizzing through my head, and I began to look around more to find some answers. I frantically swung my head, looking around. In the distance, I saw a small, white block, moving around slowly. Maybe this block held some answers to what was happening, so, I stood up. As I slowly pushed myself off the sandy, uneven ground, I began to feel slightly dizzy, and a bit sick. I stumbled towards the ocean, in hope that if anything does rise from my stomach, its liquid presence would be there to catch it and take it below it's depths. Thankfully, nothing did happen, but I did see something much more precious. As I stared into the water, I could see my own reflection. I was tall, I had four limbs - two of which being arms, the other two were legs - and some clothing covering up certain... parts of my body. The clothing came in two different pieces, one for the top half of my body, and the other for the bottom half of my body. The top piece was a light blue shirt, which fit perfectly around my body, and the lower piece was dark blue trousers, which also fit strangely well. I lay down again. Even though I had just woken up, I was already exhausted. Now that I thought about it, before the point where I woke up, I couldn't recall anything. I began to think, I doubted the fact that I had just been born, because I had quite a high intelligence, so I came to the theory that I had amnesia. I could have hit my head on some of the rocks, that were sitting on the sand, and fell to the ground unconscious.
I steadily got back up, hoping the dizziness wouldn't come back. I stared over at the white block, which had now moved quite a far way in such a short amount of time. I pursued it, following as fast as I possibly could. Thankfully, the block wasn't moving very fast at all, and as I got closer, I began to realize that this was no block at all. In fact, it was another animal. It was small, much smaller than me, with strange, thick fluff surrounding its skin. As I rest my hand on the fluff, I could feel its warmth. It is toasty, and I became quite jealous of it. I wanted this wool for my own. I began tugging at the wool, and the animal jumped back in pain. I did it again, to see the animal jump back again. I began punching the animal, constantly. I'm not sure why I did such a random act, but I think it may have been out of anger. Finally, after a while of punching, the sheep fell to the floor, and dissolved into dust. It left behind was a small block, floating. As I went over to pick it up, I got rushed with excitement. It was the fluff the animal had, but in some sort of cube shape. I wasn't too fussed about why at one point it was a part of the animal's body, to becoming a small floating block. Once I had calmed down, I stared up at the mountains I had seen earlier. I was attracted to it greatly, and I felt the need to explore it.
I began wandering towards it, unable to actually walk in a straight line. Hopefully I could find out a little more about this amnesia that I could have had. Maybe there was some structure there that could refresh my memory slightly. As I got closer, the more stunning the mountains looked. I could see small caves that had formed in the side of them, I was drawn to them, but thankfully I resisted. I could search the caves some other time. As I searched around the mountains, I could not see anything that was not crafted by nature. The only things I could see, beside the mountains, were trees and small rivers traveling along. I looked over at the trees, and remembered what had happened before with the animal, so in an attempt to get some wood, I started punching the tree. As I punched it, I saw a large crack on the tree, getting larger the longer I hit the tree. At the point when the tree could no longer take any more hits, it broke. Like before when the sheep left behind a block, but this one was small and brown, a miniature replica of the actual tree. I looked at the leaves surrounding where the tree once was, and they were slowly degrading. I quickly began punching them, in hopes of collecting them too. I don't know why I would really want some leaves, but I tried to get them anyway. Once they broke, instead of leaving behind a small replica block, it left a small sapling. Obviously, it was used to create more trees, so I decided to place it in some nearby dirt. I repeated this act for other trees, collecting its wood and replanting it with the saplings. At the end of it, it looked as if I had enough wood to build a house...
That's when it hit me.
I needed to build a shelter, somewhere to stay when the sun descends beyond the horizon. But, what puzzled me was where to build it. It needed to be somewhere I could never lose it. I always needed to be able to find my way back. I then looked back at the mountains, which were now really close. I would never forget where the mountains were, they are very significant. So, I went over to it, and began building. I transferred the wooden blocks into wooden planks, which seemed to be a much more suitable material to build a house out of, then I placed the blocks onto the ground, building it up slowly until it reached not far above head-height. I built a roof above it, and made sure I left a small gap in the wall to get in and out. Once the shelter was done, I felt a great sense of achievement. I had built a small wooden shack, somewhere to stay during the night. I looked up at the sun, which was slowly moving down towards the horizon. I still had some time left, and began experiment with some of the remaining wooden planks. I managed to create a workbench, which would aid the need of making bigger, better things that I needed. At the time, I didn't really need much. I was set for the night, until I looked at the gap at the door. I did need something for it. I couldn't just let animals wander in while I'm trying to sleep, so I started messing around at the workbench. After a while, I finally made something that could open and close only at my will, meaning only I could get in to the shelter. It was a door. It was made completely out of wood, and kept my night peaceful. I placed it at the gap in the wall, and now my house looked secure.
Night began to fall, and as the world got darker, so did my shelter. It was dark in there, and I began to lose my ability to see. But, it wasn't a huge problem, I just needed some light in there before the next night. So, I dismissed this problem and began to lay down on the soft, grassy floor. It didn't take long to fall to sleep which was odd, but staying asleep was indeed a different story.
Chapter 1
The first time I ever awoke, I was laying face down on a beach. The first thing I noticed was the smell, it was a strong, salty smell, and as I sat up and took a look around, it wasn't hard to realize the smell was coming from the sea. Back up towards land, I could see four huge mountains, which were sitting in a long line. They kind of looked like a zig-zag pattern. It was an amazing sight, but I was too busy panicking about what was going on to even notice them.Where was I?

CHAPTER 2
Spoiler
After a while, I figured out that if I lumped some sticks and wood together, I could make a weapon that could slay the Zombie and leave me uninjured. The weapon was long, I could easily hit an enemy from far and leave them unable to reach me. It also had a sharp end to it, giving the ability to take an opposing force's life within a matter of seconds. I was confident, all I had to do was open the door and lunge the tool into the Zombie's chest, leaving me without a scratch. I was ready. As I approached the door for the second time, I began to get afraid. My life was in the hands of this small, wooden weapon; so much could go wrong! What if he gets me first? I reconsidered attacking the beast, until it hit the door again. I had snapped, I was tired and angry and ready to attack. I swung open the door and charged at the beast, swinging my weapon frantically from left to right. With each blow, the Zombie made strange roaring noises, and threw its arms at me. After a while, I had finally defeated the beast. As it fell, I saw it dissolve into the dust, just like the sheep did earlier on in the day. Although, rather than leaving behind a block of wool, like the sheep, on the floor was lying some meat, rotten Zombie meat. I was disgusted, I would never in my right mind eat Zombie meat. I would probably end up feeling ill.
Other than the awful meat I was 'awarded' with, I felt a slight feeling of accomplishment. I had triumphed over the first monster I had ever faced successfully and without a scratch. I had laughed in the face of danger and rose as the victor! It was amazing, and the smile that had stretched across my face had distracted me from my surroundings. I was in dangerous territory and I wasn't even concentrating on what was happening. Thankfully, I hadn't been attacked by any other monsters in the meantime, but when I did decide to look around, I noticed that the Zombie wasn't even half of my troubles. As far as the eye could see, monsters were roaming the land. I could see Zombies, Spiders and some things I had never seen before, and they were all staring at me, like predators eying up their prey. Suddenly, the creatures turned and ran for me, all of them wanting the same thing: me. Of course, I didn't do the brave thing and fight them, instead I ran screaming back into my small shelter. I will not tell a lie, I was a coward. I was left sitting in my wooden shack, hugging my knees and hoping none of the monsters found a way in. But, they weren't smart enough to do that. Instead, they were crowding my door, making awful noises. For the rest of that night, I was permitted no sleep.
When the sun finally rose, I stood up again, brushed myself down and cautiously approached the door. As I looked outside for any monsters, I could see some fire in the distance. I made one last check that no monsters were near my door, and left to see what was going on. As I got closer to the fire, it became clear that this was not some random fire, instead something was actually on fire. Or... someone? I could soon enough see the body through the flames. It was a pale white man, who was unnaturally thin. I could see he was holding a tool too. Alas, it was not a wooden sword like mine, it was something else. It was a thin wooden stick with string attached to it. As he was burning, he lifted an arm, which had a small, sharp arrow in it. He placed it on the tool, pulled back the string and released. I could see the arrow flying towards me, it looked like as if it was going to hit me square in the chest. I attempted to dodge the arrow, but it was too late. I fell to the ground. The arrow was lodged in my chest, and the pain was unbearable. I remember letting out a huge scream of pain. I put my hand on the wound, to see it covered in my blood. I felt my eyes beginning to drop. Apparently, I wasn't good with blood. I turned my head to see the face of the attacker, and I saw deep holes going into the back of its head where its eyes were supposed to be, and its mouth was straight and expressionless. I leaned back, I could no longer feel any part of my body. I looked back over one last time to see the man was gone, and left behind was a single bone.
I opened my eyes again, to see the arrow stuck in my chest was gone, and there was no pain. I looked to the sun to see the day had just started, and I was standing in the same place where I was attacked and lost consciousness. I picked up the bone that the man had left behind, and I wondered upon what I could do today. I wasn't lost for ideas, I had plenty. But I was busy deciding which of them I could choose. I thought that I should build my house a bit more, possibly add another floor to it, or expand it's size, make it a bit bigger. I also thought that I should explore around my location, in an attempt to find out more about this amnesia. I then remembered the caves that were sitting unexplored in the side of the mountains, and thought about how much I would enjoy exploring underground. I had decided on this idea for the day, and when night fell and I needed to sleep I could simply return to the surface and head home. Hopefully by then I would have had some form of light. So, it was decided, I would head into the caves and explore. I began heading over to one of these caves. There was one in the side of the mountain closest to where I built my house. As I stared in, I realized it was too dark to actually see anything from the outside. I had to enter.
Chapter 2
I was rudely awoken by a loud knocking at my door. But, this knock was not a formal knock to gain my attention, it was instead a loud banging, as if something was trying to get in. I closed my eyes again in an attempt to dismiss this loud banging, but sadly my efforts were fruitless. The banging only got louder, and I began to get frustrated. I got up, and dragged myself to the door. I peered through one of the four little holes on the door, to see some sort of a Zombie. It was staring at me, and its constant banging told me that it was the source of the noise. The Zombie was wearing the same clothes as me; light blue shirt and dark blue trousers. It also was as tall as me, and had the four same limbs as I did. The only difference was that this creature had dark green skin, and the odour surrounding it was dreadful, like rotting flesh. I stared behind the Zombie to see if it was still night, and it turns out that the night had just begun. The moon was still very low and rising slowly. The Zombie was hitting the door harder and harder, and I had then decided that he needed to die. Sadly, I realized that this thing was more than likely hostile, and if I tried to kill it with my fists, the odds are that it would probably defeat me. I needed some sort of a tool, so I could kill it much faster and easier. I looked at the wood I had left, and went over to the workbench to see what I could do.After a while, I figured out that if I lumped some sticks and wood together, I could make a weapon that could slay the Zombie and leave me uninjured. CHAPTER 3
Spoiler
I left the cave and traveled back to my home, which was only a short walk away. I went in, and began messing around with some wood at the crafting table. I ended up making some sort of sharp, double ended tool, which looked perfectly ideal for breaking the stone. It also looked as if it could deal quite a bit of damage too, which was another positive point to it. I began my journey back to the cave, but halfway there I realized something. If I keep making these tools, they need some sort of tag, an individual name so I can stop calling them 'tools'. I stared at my sword, I had already named this, it just seemed like a name that fit its looks perfectly. I then looked at my newest tool, which I had made for collecting stone. I thought for a while about this name, I couldn't just call it anything, it needed to be relevant to what it looks like and what it does. I guess, it picks out the stone... That was it, a pickaxe! It seemed like a perfect name, it sounded good, and didn't swerve away from what its function is. By the time my thoughts had come to an end, I was at the foot of the cave. I peered in, even though I knew what was in there. I firmly held my pickaxe, and I was confident. Confident that I was going to achieve my goals. Confident that I would collect stone and upgrade my house. Confident that I would explore the deepest depths of the world and find everything that there is to find. I was ready.
I took my first step back into the cave, and I could feel the cold, hard stone floor. I approached the walls, and slowly raised my pickaxe. I aimed at the center of a stone block, hoping that I would retrieve the stone once I had destroyed the block. My hand fell, and my pickaxe dug into the stone. I pulled the pickaxe out of the stone, and raised it into the air again. I repeated this for a short while, and I was surprised at how much faster the block broke. This had to work, I would be awarded with the stone and finally replace the wood in my small mediocre shack with hard, impressive stone. The block broke, and what I was awarded with was nothing compared to what I had hoped for. Rather than getting a small, stone block, I was awarded with some cobblestone. This cobblestone was gray, like the stone, but it looked as if someone split the stone into 15 pieces and poorly stuck them together again. It was very unattractive, I couldn't make my house out of this! I sighed, and continued into the cave. It didn't take long until I couldn't see anything. It was too dark, my vision was totally impaired. I looked around frantically, I needed some source of light or things were going to get very tricky. I saw a block on the roof of the cave, I wasn't sure whether it was the darkness confusing my eyes, but the block looked like a normal stone block, but with a few black parts in it. I threw my pickaxe at it, this block broke slower than the normal stone blocks. When it finally broke, I was not awarded with another cobblestone block. I was in fact given some sort of black mineral, which was extremely difficult to see in the darkness. I began to wonder what it did, so I started messing around with some of the things I had. I ended up putting the mineral with sticks, which, as if by magic, set the mineral alight and lit up the whole cave. I put the torch on the wall, and felt confident with the light guiding my way.
Now that I could see, I realized that the inside of the cave was an amazing sight. There was so much to explore, it was extremely interesting. As I continued through the cave, I came across a large, dark pit in the ground. At the other side of the pit I could see the cave continuing, and I searched around the edge of the pit to try and find a safe way around. There wasn't one, and I tried to think of a way across. I remembered the cobblestone block I had, and I thought that considering I wasn't using it for anything else, I may as well use it to get across the pit. I placed one down, and it sat floating above the huge pit. I cautiously put one foot on the cobblestone block, it seemed sturdy enough, so I put the other foot on. I realized that I didn't have anymore cobblestone blocks, so I had no choice but to take some more from the edge of the cave. It didn't take too long, and I hopped back onto the cobblestone block which was hanging above the huge pit. I carefully moved across the block, placing more cobblestone on the side of it to make some sort of a thin bridge. I looked down, I couldn't see the bottom of the bridge. It was too far for the light to reach the bottom. I got nervous, moving along making sure I didn't fall. I had one more cobblestone block to place, I lost my footing. I fell, I could see the wall of the cave moving up around me at an immense speed. It was a long fall, and I thought that I was going to die here, until... blackness...
Chapter 3
As I moved into the cave, I could no longer feel the soft, uneven floor of grass beneath my feet. Instead, I had come to feel some sort of hard material, which made loud echoing noises with each step I took. It was hard to see, but the light from outside aided my vision slightly. This material was gray and bland, and these features made me feel as if my house should be made out of this stone. This material seemed bland enough to be unnoticed and ignored by monsters, and strong enough to not have any danger of destruction. So, I decided that I would do the same thing as I did with all of the other blocks and punch it. Considering it worked for the other blocks, why not this one? I began swinging my arms at the stone, hoping that it would break. With every hit I gave, my hand began to hurt more and more, and the block cracked in an extremely slow manner. I began to wonder whether taking this block was worth the pain, I could easily find another material to craft my house out of. Then, I realized that the block was close to breaking, and I got excited. When the block finally broke, I stood still ready to catch the miniscule replica that fell from it, but I had no such luck. I was given nothing in return for mercilessly hitting the block, which may have broken a number of bones in my hand. I was feeling a mixture of emotions, one being anger, and could you blame me? The amount of pain that the block had inflicted on my hand and I received nothing for it. Another emotion being sadness. Not being able to take this block caused my plans to shatter, and my shelter could not have the upgrade I had hoped for. I was also confused. Why did I not receive the stone, especially after the pain I had gained from it? I grabbed my sword and began jabbing at the stone, to see that tiny parts of the stone were falling off. That was it! I needed something sharp to break such hard material, maybe I needed another tool?I left the cave and traveled back to my home, which was only a short walk away.
CHAPTER 4
Spoiler
Now that I had a sufficient amount of energy to get up and try to escape, I pushed myself off the ground and began looking. There didn't seem to be a way back up, the walls were far to steep to climb. I began panicking, frantically searching for a way out of this place. What could I do? I searched through my things, trying to find some blocks that could get me to the top of the pit. The only blocks I had were three cobblestone and two wooden planks, nowhere near enough to get out of here. I then stumbled upon my pickaxe. Of course, I can dig my way out! I began hitting the wall, the pick going deeper and deeper into the stone with every hit I made. But this time, when the cobblestone broke, so did my pickaxe. This meant I was stuck, I had no way out and not enough material to make another pickaxe. So, now the only thing I could do was explore the caves and hope to find a way out. Being stuck down in the pit was both terrifying and exciting, I could finally do some good old fashioned cave exploring. I lit a torch and placed it on the wall, and continued down one of the passages. I didn't get far when I came to another large cave, I could see lava flowing from a hole in the cave roof and spilling onto the floor. There were also a few other minerals in the wall, one of which being a silver colour, easy to spot in the dark.
I searched around this cave, trying to find somewhere that may lead off to the cave I was in before, where I fell into the pit. I started climbing up the side of a gentle wall, which was quite easy to climb. I could see a small cave at the top leading out towards the exit to the cave, but I couldn't see the light from the torches. I began climbing towards it, as I went the wall got steeper and steeper. It began to get hard to climb. I ended up having to use all of my blocks to get near the cave. I was close, there was one more jump I needed to make. But, the jump was too high, and involved me breaking a block to get up. I looked up towards the cave, so close but yet so far. The only way to get to the cave was to break a stone block, but I had no pickaxe. I looked at the block, it was mocking me. I only had to jump once more to get to the cave and it was obstructing my way. From where I was it didn't seem that there was another way around, If this met up directly with the first cave, there would be no other way there. I stared at the block, I knew the only way to get out was to break it, but with the pain I experienced last time it was not the first option. I began slowly hitting it, and the stone began to break slowly. I could already feel my hand begin to ache, but if this was the only way out I had to do it. I was punching faster, my hand hurt more and more. I was determined, I attacked the block ferociously, it hurt but I dismissed it. I had to escape. The block finally broke, I was free. I climbed the last block and hopped into the cave.
In the distance I could see a small light, the torch I had placed earlier was glowing, leading me towards the exit. I followed the cave, slowly, looking down to ensure that I wouldn't run into any more pits. The cave was long, or it felt long. I couldn't really tell. I was nervous for sure, I wasn't certain that this would lead me directly to the exit. I continued, quickly hopping around each corner to see if it was the end. Then, I could see the light from one of the torches I placed on the walls, I hurried around the corner to see my torch, and the natural light from the exit. I moved towards the exit slowly, making sure I didn't fall into the pit. It was hard to see where I was going, it was still dark in this cave. Then I saw it, the outside world. I could see it, it was night, and I got so excited that I ran towards the exit, forgetting about the pit that was near me. I put one foot into the pit, and fell forward, grabbing onto the cobblestone block that was floating one block away from me. I was holding on for dear life, my legs were dangling down the huge hole, and I was feeling around for something to grab on to. All I had were the small spaces in the cobblestone to pull myself up from. I squirmed and rolled, and finally was able to pull myself up from the abyss. I slowly moved along the cobblestone bridge and ran for the exit. I did a face-plant as soon as I got out. It hurt, but I didn't care, I could finally feel the long, soft grass which I had been longing for.
Chapter 4
My eyes slowly began to drift open. I was in so much pain, everything seemed blurry. I could remember thinking that this was where I was going to die, on the floor of a cave pit surrounded by darkness. I looked up, I could see the top of the pit and the small cobblestone bridge I had made. I looked around me, I could see caves leading into other directions. I felt so weak, out of energy and in so much pain. I needed something. Something that could give me the energy to escape this place. I used the last of my energy to check what I had, anything that I could use to help me. I searched my pockets, and in there I could feel something. It was soft, and had quite a strange texture. I took it out of my pocket, and this thing revealed itself to be the rotten Zombie meat I had found the night before. I looked at it, the smell was foul and strong, I couldn't eat this! It came from a Zombie! I would probably get some sort of disease. I rummaged through my belongings a while longer, to find that I had no possession that could give me the strength to get out of this place. I looked back at the Zombie meat, its repulsive smell had spread around the cave. I knew that eating this was the only way I could survive. I lifted it slowly towards my mouth, which had opened slightly. As the meat got closer, the smell got worse. I closed my eyes, I knew I had to get this agony over with. I quickly jolted my head forward and took a large bite from it. The taste was awful, much worse than the smell. I slowly chewed it, with each chew I felt as if I was going to be sick. Either way, I knew it was for my own good, so I quickly took another bite. Then another, then another, until finally I had the whole thing stuffed in my mouth. I started gagging, the taste was unbearable. I knew I didn't have long until I would fall ill under this thing. I quickly swallowed it, determined to finish it and get going. I shook, it was finally over, it was gone, however the taste still lingered in my mouth. Now that I had a sufficient amount of energy to get up and try to escape, I pushed myself off the ground and began looking. CHAPTER 5
Spoiler
Thankfully, when I awoke this time it wasn't the middle of the night being interrupted by a rude Zombie. It was morning, and as I pushed myself from the ground and took a peek out of my door, I noticed that there were no monsters to be seen. I took a step outside, making sure that no monsters were waiting to ambush me, there was nothing. I took this as a good omen, no monsters meant I could take a look around and gather resources. I noticed how I was low on wood, so that was my first priority. There were no trees close to my home, but I could see a large forest on another island not far from the beach I woke up on. I went over to the beach, and I was flooded with memories. I could remember waking up, and my first steps on this land. I could remember how ill I felt when I got up, and the murky depths of the ocean I stared in to. The ocean I was about to swim in. As I got closer, I could see clearly how deep the water was. I was prepared to take a dive into it, I was confident, determined. I had never attempted to swim before, I wasn't even sure if I had the ability to swim, but if I didn't try, I would never find out. I jumped in, my arms flapping around. I was fidgeting, trying to make sure that I would stay above the surface. It was amazing to feel the water for the first time, The cold, fresh liquid against my skin was marvelous. It didn't take long for me to realize that this swimming business wasn't very hard at all. In fact, it was pretty easy, it was as if I had been doing it for years.
I continued swimming to the other island. It wasn't very far, just a short way away. When I got to the island, I could feel the water slowly drip from my body, I felt refreshed. I went up to one of the trees, and did the same as I did on the first day, I began punching it. It didn't take long for it to crack and break, and the small wooden replica fell down to me. I hadn't noticed this before, but when I broke the bottom tree block, it seemed to stay floating. It didn't fall. I assumed this was how the gravity worked here in this strange, blocky world. I continued gathering the wood from the trees, and I was close to the amount I needed, until I saw a huge ravine in the ground. It was extremely deep, falling down there would kill you instantly. It was long too, it reached from one end of the island to another. I looked down, being careful not to fall in, I could see some wooden planks and some spider webs in there. It looked as if someone had been there before. I searched for a way down, but the ravine was so steep, there didn't seem to be a way to the bottom without falling a great height. I was intrigued by this natural wonder, and I had the urge to explore it, the only problem was that I couldn't find a way down. I went to the edge of the ravine, and began digging directly under me. The dirt was easy to break and gave me a very quick way into the ravine. Until, I realized that there was stone down there, I remembered that I hadn't made a pickaxe, and punching it caused a great amount of pain. My hands were still hurting from the last time I broke stone with my hands. I did have tree blocks though, and you would have thought that I would make myself a pickaxe. I'm not that smart. I placed blocks around the wall of the ravine to give myself a stairway to the bottom of it, which was a huge waste of resources. Once I hopped off the last block, I could feel the hard stone against my feet again. I continued towards the wooden planks I saw down here.
As I got closer, I realized that these blocks were in some sort of arch shape, a 2 meter high gap just giving me the ability to fit through. I could see more of these arches, leading into a cave in the side of the ravine, and of course, I followed. As I went on, there seemed to be more and more of these arches, leading me into a labyrinth, and I wasn't sure whether I should go exploring or go back to my home where I was safe. I had made up my mind, and I was going to turn back until I heard a loud hissing noise coming from one of the arches. I followed the sound into a small cave room where approximately five spiders were sitting, surrounded by cobwebs. They turned to look at me, but were unable to get to me. They were obstructed by the webs that they had made. At the time, I had no idea that the spiders intended to hurt me, I just thought that they were trapped and needed my help. I drew my sword, and started swinging at the cobwebs. The webs were very difficult to cut through, probably because they were made by giant spiders. The spiders were still hissing and jumping around in the small space they were confined in. I was close to them, and I felt like a hero. I would be setting these helpless animals free. I slashed my sword through the last cobweb, which broke in an instance, and while I was waiting for the spiders to run and escape to their freedom, instead they jumped and attacked me. I hopped back in pain, the spider had sunk its teeth into my shoulder, and I could feel the agony spreading to my arm and chest. I swung for the spider, hitting it square in the face. It turned, looking to its peers for support. All of the spiders jumped at me, and I was blindly swinging my sword at them. The spiders got me quite a few times, but I came out the victor. It wasn't as amazing as it sounds. As soon as the spiders shriveled up and turned to dust, I threw my sword to the ground and fell to the floor. The pain was spreading through my body, and the only thing I recall thinking was: water.
Chapter 5
I hadn't noticed at this point that night had fallen. I was too busy thinking about how lucky I was to even notice the beasts that could have been surrounding me. Luckily, there was nothing around me, and by the time that I had realized I had become confused. Where were the monsters? I began to wonder if they had left this place, and moved on to some other location, like a migration. I didn't think about it for long, just as long as they weren't here. I continued back to my home without another thought about the matter. I swung open the door, I forgot how dark it was in here. I hadn't put any torches down yet. I took out four torches, one for each corner of the room, and they lit themselves without me having to do anything, just like before. I placed a torch in each corner of the room, and my shelter was lit up pretty well. I felt much more comfortable now, more cozy. Other than supplying me with light, the torches also made my house a little warmer. I decided that before I would go to sleep, I would make some tools so that I didn't have to do it in the morning. I wandered over to my workbench and tried to make another pickaxe, then I realized that I had used the last of my wood in the mines, and I had barely anything left. I couldn't go outside and gather materials at this hour either, it would be far too dangerous. So, I decided to go to the corner, under the crisp warmth of one of the torches, and lie down. Like last time, it didn't take long to fall asleep. I felt my eyes slowly fall into sleep.Thankfully, when I awoke this time it wasn't the middle of the night being interrupted by a rude Zombie. It was morning, and as I pushed myself from the ground and took a peek out of my door, I noticed that there were no monsters to be seen. CHAPTER 6
Spoiler
My eyes rose slightly, I couldn't really see, it looked to be night. A horrid smell invaded my nose, and everything was silent, other than some faint breathing. In front of me, about a foot from my face, was a pitch black figure, staring at me. I could hardly move, I reached out to the side of me in an attempt to grab my sword, but I couldn't find it. I took another look at the figure, its eyes were green, and it had no other facial feature. It was quite tall too, a guess would be three meters in height. It continued to stare at me for a moment, and then evaporated into thick black smoke, and I fell back into deep sleep.
When I awoke I was back at my home, sleeping outside, right in front of the door. I looked around, confused. I wasn't here before, I was in the ravine, there was nothing that I knew of that could return me to here. My thirst was quenched completely, and I checked my inventory, it was empty, other than a small, round object. It looked like some sort of pearl, but it was soft, much like jelly. It seemed edible, but I didn't want to put it in my mouth, I did not know what it was. I reflected back on the day before, I was still confused and spent a great deal of time wondering what had happened. I also began to wonder where my things had gone, so I decided to go back and check the ravine for any clues as to where they were. I hopped back into the water and swam back over to the island, I realized how much lighter I felt without the weight of everything I was carrying. It was unusually cold today, and as I followed the way back to the ravine, everything got colder and colder. I looked down into the ravine to see my things, scattered around near the place where I fell unconscious. I went down into the ravine the same way as I did before, digging down directly under me. I hopped the last step and went in to gather my belongings. I picked them all up, and thankfully in that time nothing disastrous happened to me. I went back up to the wall of the ravine, and began placing blocks directly under me to scale the wall. I knew that I needed to get back to my shelter before disaster strikes again, so I hopped back into the water to swim back home.
When I was back at my small wooden house, I went over to the workbench and began to experiment with the orb that I had awoken with. There didn't seem to be anything I could do with it, I couldn't create anything or do anything. I decided to keep it with me though, just in case its true motive reveals itself when I needed it. I left my home and thought about how much I enjoyed searching in the mines, and decided to go back into the cave that was in the side of the mountain. I took some wood with me, and began my cave exploration. When I got into the cave, I realized that I needed an easy way to remember where I have been, and remembered the wooden arches in the ravine mines. I took huge inspiration from that, in fact, I completely copied its structure. As I went in I began placing these arch shaped wooden planks around, in an attempt to make sure that I would remember exactly where I had visited, and be able to find my way back. I continued, making sure I didn't fall into the pit that I had fallen into before, and began searching for some interesting caves and minerals. I followed the cave, remembering clearly in my head of where it came out to. A small cave where large lava lakes pour through the roof of the cave, slightly lighting up this large interesting cave, and it went as far as the eye could see, getting darker and darker as it went on.
I continued, exploring further and further into the depths of the cave. At this point, I didn't know the result of fire, and how it effected some materials such as wood. So, I tried to do something clever, and placed some wooden planks directly under the lava stream that was flowing from the roof in an attempt to redirect the lava into a small pit next to it. To my surprise, rather than flowing in another direction, it simply burnt the wood and continued its path. The fire from the wood gave the cave a bit of extra heat, and I could feel it against my skin. I went closer to it, in an attempt to touch the fire. I reached my hand out towards it, and instead of the warm heat I was hoping for, it set my hand alight with flames. I tried to pat the fire out with my other hand, but it kept spreading throughout my body. It didn't hurt at the time, I was merely confused as to why everything went so wrong in a matter of minutes. I began looking for something that could douse the fire, and began running around randomly in hopes that I would see some sort of underground water lake. I could see one, out of the corner of my eye, sitting there in a short distance. I began to sprint for it, jumping over every obstacle that challenged me. I took a leap into the air, falling at a great speed towards the pool. As my feet touched the water, the whole fire stopped in an instance rather than just dousing the fire on my feet. It was strange, but the cool feel of the water felt wonderful. I rose to the surface, and dragged my dripping body out of the pool. I slowly continued back to where my arches were, dragging my feet as I walked.
Chapter 6
My throat was dry, I needed to quench my thirst. As time went by, my throat got dryer and dryer, and I knew I had to get to some water soon. I began slowly crawling out from the cave, I constantly tried to pull myself up so I could go faster, but I didn't have the strength. I continued crawling through the caves, trying as hard as I could not to get lost. I kept thinking about the water on the land, no matter how hard I tried not to. You would have thought that the idea of getting to water would have made me more determined to get out, but the pain that was running through me made me weaker and weaker by the second. I came to the entrance to the cave, and I could see the height of the steep ravine. Then a thought hit me, there was no water down in the ravine and it would be too difficult to make it to the top. I lost all determination I had, and dropped my head to the ground. Looking down, I could feel the cold dirt on my face. It was horrible, a mixture of pain spreading around my body, and horrible dirt in my face. I felt myself drifting off, which I had been doing a lot since I arrived here. My eyes slowly closed, the pain began to subside, but I couldn't stop. I was out cold.My eyes rose slightly, I couldn't really see, it looked to be night.
It was strange, but the cool feel of the water felt wonderful. I rose to the surface, and dragged my dripping body out of the pool. I slowly continued back to where my arches were, dragging my feet as I walked.
CHAPTER 7
Spoiler
After I was finished, I had around 15 blocks of the ore. I dug around a bit more to make sure that there were no more blocks hiding in the stone, but there was nothing remaining. I turned back to the workbench that was still sitting next to me, I began messing around with the minerals. I tried to make an upgrade for my pickaxe, but nothing happened. I then did the same with the sword too, but once again my efforts were fruitless. I traveled back up to my home in an attempt to find out what this block could do there. I began climbing out of the cave and rushing to the exit to the cave. I began walking back home, the day was coming to its end, so I figured that I may as well stay home for the night and explore the caves again in the morning. I went into my shelter and began examining the block some more. It looked as if it needed heat to get rid of the stone around it, and leave the actual ingot inside. I went over to the workbench, my mind was set on what I needed to make: a small stone block, with a hollow inside. I would be able to put something in, along with something flammable such as wood, and burn the stone off leaving the mineral on its own. I went over to my workbench, and began moving things around trying to find some way of making it. It turned out to be a lot more simple than I first thought, all I had to do was put some cobblestone blocks together.
I placed this 'furnace' down and put the mineral blocks into it, I looked through the small gap I had left in the side of the block, and I could see the fire burning, and the stone slowly melting away leaving the raw mineral alone. I could feel the heat rushing against my face, and the smell of smoke filled my nose. It didn't take long until the stone had completely vanished, and the ingot inside was sitting in the middle of the furnace. I opened it up, put my hand in and wrapped my fingers around the ingot, and pulled back in pain, the heat from the ingot was intense. I looked down at my hands, which were swelling up in pain. They were red, the heat from the ingot must have turned them this colour. I reached back out to the ingot, tapping it to make sure it wasn't still too hot. It seemed fine, so I picked it up. I took a look at it, the ingot now looked like some sort of bar, I decided to call this silver bar iron. I turned back to the workbench and began messing around with the iron some more, trying to make something useful out of it. This time, I could make the pickaxe upgrade. I was given a pickaxe, like the others, but the head of the pickaxe was made out of iron. It was much heavier too, it took a great amount of strength to even lift it above my head. I turned, it was now the middle of the night. I decided that I needed to sleep, so I lay down in front under one of the torches in the corner of the room, in the same place as I did the night before, and went to sleep.
It was a new day, and as my eyes opened I knew that I wanted to explore the caves and test out my new pickaxe. I left my home in a hurry, and as I walked to the cave I could see something moving around out of the corner of my eye. I approached, I knew it was a monster, but it didn't look like one I had seen before. It was green, with no arms and four stubby legs. I approached carefully, and the creature turned to look at me. It watched my every move, and began moving towards me too. We got closer and closer to each other, and I could see the creature's face. It looked sad, or angry. The mouth looked strange, as if it was some sort of mutant human. I could hear a strange noise as I got closer,
"sssssSSSSSSSS" it seemed to be coming from the creature. It began swelling up, and its skin had turned white. It began running at me, I ducked my head. I expected a huge blow to my stomach, or back, or anywhere on my body for that matter. Then, I head a huge explosion, knocking me back quite far. It didn't hurt too much, I don't think the creature was close enough to cause a vast amount of damage. I got up, wiping dust from my body. I looked over at where the creature was, it had left a huge hole in the ground in the place that it stood. I shook my head, feeling a little dizzy, and continued back to the mine.
Chapter 7
I rebuilt the arch I had made, but of course in a different place. My exploration of the cave continued, until something caught my eye. Embedded into a block of stone, a silver mineral was sitting, waiting for someone to take it. I scurried over to it, excitedly, hoping that the mineral would be of use to me. I examined the block, it looked the same as the black mineral, but just a different colour. I made a workbench, and placed it on the ground next to me, and I began making another pickaxe. I looked at the cobblestone that I had made earlier, maybe it did have a use. Instead of putting wooden planks into the equation, I could remove them and replace them for cobblestone. I tried it, and it worked, I now had a cobblestone pickaxe! I turned back to the silver minerals, and began throwing my arms at it, my pickaxe rising, and falling into the block. The pickaxe began chipping away the dirt around it, and after a while I got my reward. I wouldn't say I was disappointed with what I was given, but it wasn't what I had expected. Instead of giving me the actual mineral like it did with the other one, it gave me the actual block that I broke. The mineral, surrounded by stone. I looked back at where the silver mineral was, there was nothing else, other than a small hole in the wall that it left. Behind where the mineral was, sat another one, the silver coloured ore trapped inside the stone. As I broke the blocks, more and more kept appearing behind it.After I was finished, I had around 15 blocks of the ore. I dug around a bit more to make sure that there were no more blocks hiding in the stone, but there was nothing remaining. CHAPTER 8
Spoiler
I entered this new cave, it seemed a lot like a long corridor. I placed a torch on the wall, built one of the wooden arches and continued into the cave. I followed it, keeping an eye out for more resources. I noticed that the cold that I had felt earlier had gone, as if the figure took it with him. It was very strange, but I didn't think too much of it. I continued down the cave, until I ran into a dead end. The cave had ended with a stone wall, blocking the way. I got my pickaxe out and began swinging it at the stone, hoping that at the other side of it, there will be another cave to explore. The stone broke, and left behind the cobblestone as usual, and as I peered through the small gap that was left, all I could see was another stone block sitting there. Mocking me. I began digging around that area in hope that there would be something else around, but there was nothing. Just a bunch of stone. I decided that I should go back to the surface now, I had lost track of my actual goals: I needed to find more about where I was, who I was, and how this all happened. I followed the mine back towards the surface, and on the way there I began hearing noises. It sounded as if someone was hushing, right in my ear. I equipped my sword and began looking around, but there was nothing. I began running back towards the surface, in an attempt to make it out as fast as I could. I followed the first cave back to the entrance, and hopped across the cobblestone bridge. I looked behind me, there was nothing. But, I could still hear the noises, which were now turning into loud groaning. I jumped out of the cave, landing on my feet. The noises stopped.
I got up, and continued back to my house. I swung open the door to see that, on the back wall of my house, there was a block missing. I was certain that I didn't leave it like that. I went over to it, and quickly replaced it. I was confused. I left my house and looked up, the sun was still quite high. I turned to look at my house, it was still the wooden square that I had made on the first day. It definitely needed an upgrade. I searched around in my inventory, I only had my tools, some cobblestone, some wooden planks, torches and some minerals. Oh, and of course my pearl. I went over to my workbench and began experimenting. I made some sticks, and began moving them around, trying to find the right combination. After a while, I was given a strange looking block, that seemed to be like a stick, but it was far taller and a bit thicker. It looked to be some sort of fence. I went outside, and began placing them around outside, to make some sort of a square around my house. The fences were too tall to jump over, so you would need an alternative way around, so I took one fence out to give me space. After I had messed around with the fences to make the house look perfect, I stood back to admire my masterpiece. The wooden block that I called house still looked exactly the same, but at least now, there is something around it to make it look decent.
The sky got darker, night was falling once again. I went back in to my small home, preparing to go to sleep. I lay down in my usual spot, under the warmth of the torch, and slowly drifted off to sleep. It wasn't long until I heard a loud groaning coming from outside. I got up, and slowly approached the door. I equipped my sword, preparing to be attacked by a vicious Zombie or worse, one of those creepy green beasts that I had the misfortune to meet earlier. I looked through the gap in the door, in the distance I could see creatures, roaming the land. I figured that they were too far away to notice me, so I slowly opened the door. As it opened, it made a loud creaking noise. I stopped immediately, making sure that the beasts had not heard the noise. I slowly turned my head, I was slightly panicking. Thankfully, none of the creatures had heard the noise. I continued, cautiously making my way out of the house and through the gap in the fences. I began searching for the source of the strange groaning sound, with every turn I gripped my sword tighter and prepared to attack. I checked the sides of my house, there was nothing. I slowly peered around the back of my house, it was very dark, and I couldn't see very well. But then I noticed something. Two small purple lights came into view, and I slowly approached. Before I got close enough to see what it was, I heard a loud banging noise coming from behind me. I turned, there was nothing. I went round to see if anything was around the corner of my house, but I couldn't see anything that could have made this noise. I turned back, and now the source of the purple lights were revealed.
Chapter 8
As soon as I took my first step into the mine, I had realized that it was much colder than before. But, I didn't really think too much of it, and slowly continued back to where I was before. It moved slowly across the cobblestone bridge, and hopped back into the small cave. I turned my head, looking around the cave, and for about half a second, I saw a dark figure standing perfectly still in the corner of the cave. It was staring straight at me. I didn't get a very good look, and when I turned to look back at the figure, it was gone. All that was left behind was some purple dust, slowly falling to the ground. By the time I had reached the place where the figure was standing, the dust had faded into nothing, and I was left alone and confused. I decided that I should finish mining and find some more resources. I went over to some stone, and began digging away from the cave, in an attempt to find somewhere that had a greater amount of resources. I began digging into the side of the cave, my new iron pickaxe swiftly destroying the blocks as I went along. It didn't take long for me to hit another cave. In fact, this cave was right behind the first one. I peered out, and I surveyed the area, trying to find something useful. I could see more iron blocks, and a some water flowing in from one of the walls.I entered this new cave, it seemed a lot like a long corridor. CHAPTER 9
Spoiler
I crawled back over to my small dirt bed in the corner of the room, still dragging the rest of my body along the floor. I noticed as I pulled myself along that the floor was still made from grass and dirt. I had not thought once about replacing it with something much more sensible. I crawled back to my usual resting place and lay down, letting out a breath of exhaustion. I stared up at the roof, tonight it wasn't easy to get to sleep, mainly because of the pain. I began drifting off, day dreaming about my experiences and my future. I had so many questions. What was that thing? Why did it attack me? Did I provoke it somehow? The questions were whizzing around my head, and I fell asleep craving the answers. When I awoke, everything was as usual. I turned to my side and tried to pull myself from the ground. As I began putting my weight into my legs, I could feel an immense amount of pain in my back. I had completely forgotten what had happened the night before, but the pain that struck my back brought it back to me. I was attacked by that shady monstrous beast. But, it seemed that it was no longer around. When I stumbled too the door and took a look out, there didn't seem to be any sign of the beast. This meant that I was fine, as long as I didn't go outside at night.
I limped outside, cautiously looking around to make sure that nothing was lurking around the sides of my house. I was being very observant, concentrating on anything that had the potential to be hostile. That's why, when I heard the loud bark of another animal, I almost had a heart attack. I turned to see a small grey animal watching me. It was sitting down, as if it was waiting for something. I looked through my inventory and took out the small bone that the grey man had dropped. I didn't think that this was what it wanted, but when it came into the sight of the animal, it stood up and began wagging its tail. I raised an eyebrow in confusion. Why would it want a strange bone that had been in my pocket for numerous days? The animals eyes were fixed on the bone, its eyes were practically begging me to give it to it. I got down on one knee and stretched my hand out towards it, urging it to come and take the bone. It slowly approached, staring up at me. Within a second, the animal lunged towards my hand, took the bone and swiftly retreated. It began chewing on the bone, and I watched it for a moment before setting off for the beach, I was planning to collect some sand. As I walked, I could hear the quiet footsteps of the animal behind me. I turned to see it staring up at me, with the bone still in its mouth. I turned back and continued towards the beach, but I could still hear the footsteps.
I began collecting the sand, digging a large amount of it up. The animal was sitting down on some nearby grass, watching me. Its tail was still wagging. I was slowly collecting the sand, and I wanted it for a specific purpose. If I put the sand in the furnace, and began heating at a ferocious temperature, it would surely make some sort of transparent object. Some sort of glass. It would allow me to see what is outside easier, rather than risking my life chasing the noise it makes. After a short while of collecting sand, other than the beach being completely wrecked, I now had enough sand to give me a sufficient amount of windows for my home. I went got off the beach, back onto the grass, and as I walked I could still hear the tiny footsteps of the grey animal. I had completely forgotten that it was there, still chewing on the bone I had given it earlier. It seemed to be following me, and as I swung open the door and went in to my house, the animal had attempted to follow me inside. I looked at it and shook my head, I moved it to the side with my foot and shut the door, ensuring that it couldn't get in.
Chapter 9
The creature moved forward into the light of some torches that I had placed around the perimeter of the house. Although it was dark, I could still slightly see it. It was tall, much taller than I was, and looked down at me with a dark, expressionless face. I leaned forward cautiously to examine its face, but it seemed that there wasn't much to actually examine. The creature's face was as black as the depressing night, with its purple eyes glowing in the dark. Its mouth was wide open, and it began tilting its head side to side. The rest of the body was black too, its arms were long and reached down to its knees and its legs were equally as long, leaving a tiny body in the middle. I stepped back slowly, and turned in an attempt to return to the safety of my home. Too Late. I felt a sharp pain in my back, and I fell to the floor. I turned to see the creature attacking me from behind. I crawled forward, in an attempt to escape this merciless beast, but every time I got far enough away from the beast, it would dissolve into purple dust, and reappear closer to me. The closer it got the faster I tried to go. Sadly, every time I tried to get up, my legs abandoned me and threw me back to the ground. I felt another hit to my back and I screamed in agony. I equipped my sword, turned onto my back, and swung at the creature like a maniac. It began to move around in a confused state, as if the constant swinging of the sword made it dizzy. I had just enough time to make it back into my house, back into the wonderful safety of my poorly-designed wooden box. When I looked out of the door's gap, I could see the beast leaning against the door, wanting, or possibly even begging, to come in. I would have felt sorry for it if its expression changed even slightly, but no. Always the same face.I crawled back over to my small dirt bed in the corner of the room, still dragging the rest of my body along the floor.
CHAPTER 10
Spoiler
I turned back to the animal. It saved my life. After the way I had treated it, the animal still decided to kill the skeleton for me. The skeleton had left behind a bone, like last time. I picked it up and gave it to the animal, as a reward for its heroic efforts. I now accepted it as my friend, and instead of calling it 'animal', it would give it a name: Wolf. I patted it on the head and bravely pulled the arrow out of my shoulder. I must admit, it was extremely painful and I let out loud screams with each tug. Before entering the cave, I decided to take the animal home, I didn't want to risk its life after everything it had done for me. When I got back, I opened the door, Wolf walked in and turned to me, waiting for me to follow him inside. I did not. Instead, I shut the door on him, leaving him alone. I did feel guilty afterwards, but if Wolf were to lose his life because of me, I would never be able to live with myself. I decided against going back to the cave, mainly because of the noises that I had experienced on my last visit. Insted I would make some sort of stairway going down. Maybe the deeper I go, the more riches I will find.
Right next to my house, I begin digging. My hands were moving the dirt from the ground, clearing it away so I could begin. I had an iron pickaxe with me, just incase I see anything that a stone pickaxe cannot break. I continued digging in this fashion until I hit stone. I took out my pickaxe and lunged it into the stone, the process was fast, and within a matter of seconds the stone disappeared, leaving behind its small replicate. I continued down, hoping to run into some sort of cave system, but I was not that lucky. I dug down until my iron pickaxe broke and I had to climb back up to repair it. I must admit, these stairway mines are effective, even though I have not found anything with it yet. The climb was long and tiring, but atleast I had the reassurance that I wasn't in any danger of being attacked by monsters or running into lava. I went into my house to see Wolf sleeping on the floor. I tried not to wake him, but the loud creek of the door caught his attention. His eyes openened and his ears rose, and as soon as he saw me, Wolf stood up and began wagging his tail.
I did feel really bad for leaving him behind, so after I rebuilt my pickaxe I decided to take him with me. What kind of life would he have if he was locked up at home all day? I wasn't too worried about taking him with me, because he usually follows my footsteps. The only way that he could die, was if I would fall into a lava lake or be attacked by one of those green explosive beasts. I hopped back into my mine, listening out for Wolf's footsteps. I didn't want him to wander off. I began digging again, and if by chance I instantly broke into a cave system. I couldn't see past my nose thanks to the darkness, so I took out some torches and placed them on the wall. The cave revealed itself, and I could instantly see that it got deeper as it went on. I decided to follow, lighting up the cave as I went. I was pretty deep at this point and I was hoping to find something new or interesting.
Chapter 10
When I awoke the next morning and put the sand that I had collected into the furnace. When I left, I didn't expect the animal to still be outside. I would have thought that it would have left, in an attempt to find its allies. Instead, it was in the same place as to where I left it the night before. I left my home and began walking towards the mine, still being followed by the small animal. I did not notice at first, but the thin, pale man who I had seen a couple of days before was in the cave, hiding from the sunlight. The animal barked at me, as a warning, but I continued into the cave. The man attacked me, I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder as one of the sharp arrows flew at me. I saw blood pour from the wound, and as the man looked down on me, I accepted my fate. This world had caused me too much pain, perhaps my death was far overdue. I closed my eyes, preparing for the pain. But, the pain did not come. Insted, I heard vicious growling and barking, and lound clanging noises. I opened my eyes to see the man, dead on the floor and the animal sitting down, staring at me with a smug look on its face. Just before the man disappeared into dust, I could get a good look at him. As I examined, I could see that this was no man, it was infact a human skeleton.I turned back to the animal. It saved my life. After the way I had treated it, the animal still decided to kill the skeleton for me. The skeleton had left behind a bone, like last time. CHAPTER 11 - NEW
Spoiler
This time it worked; a small object of sorts dropped to the ground infront of me as a reward. This object was red, small and emitted a small amount of light. With my new find, Wolf and I ran back through the cave and ascended my stairway mine. I pondered upon what I could make of this: maybe a hellish red sword, which could slice through anything, or a glowing pickaxe, which could break any mineral that challenged its ferocity. I burst through my door with a loud bang, and set my eyes on the crafting table. I approached it, whilst staring at the beautiful dust in my hand. I put two sticks on the crafting table in the usual position for tool-making, and carefully placed the redstone on in the alloted positions in order to make a pickaxe; one on the top-left of the crafting table, one on the top-middle of the crafting table, and as I slowly placed the final peice redstone on the top-right placement, I forced my eyes closed in excitement.
It was done. I opened my eyes again, and sighed with great disappointment. I was left with nothing, and as I rearranged the redstone to see if I could make any other tools, I realised that there had to be a problem. Maybe it needs burning? I turned to my furnace and placed the redstone in it, using coal to set it alight. Apparently, that was not the issue either. I was dumbfounded. All of that... for nothing? In depression, Wolf and I slumped back down into the mine, down the steep stairway and back into the cave. Even though I was upset at the fact that the redstone did not live up to its expectations, I was determined to find something at equal or better use. I began searching around the large cave again, and slowly began wondering off into the darkness.
At this point, I couldn't see. At all. I took out a torch and placed it on the closest wall. As I was searching through the labarynth of stone and ore, I began pondering upon how I would get back to the cave's entrance. I looked through my inventory for something which could help me navigate my way back. There didn't seem to be anything that had any use for a job such as this, until I noticed the redstone dust. I could simply sprinkle it on the floor to help me find my way back because, let's face it, the dust was glowing, stuck out like a sore thumb and simply had no other use. After finding that it easily stuck to the ground, I attempted to see whether it could stick to the wall too. I placed it above the torch, in hopes that it would stick to the wall. It didn't, but the outcome was much more interesting. The redstone dust fell onto the flames of the torch, which strangely turned it from an orangey-yellow flame to a red, demonic flame which roared at me.
I was confused, but I was also excited. Maybe the redstone did have a use. I took the newly found torch off the wall, and stood dazed at its magnificence. It didn't emit as much light as the normal torch, but this new one was beautiful. I looked back down at the redstone dust which was stretched across the cave floor. I got down onto my stomach and lay next to it. It had a metallic smell, which was certainly strange. I placed the redstone torch next to the redstone, and instantly the dust began slowly lighting up, one by one. The light from it was a bright orange colour, and took out all darkness in the cave.
Chapter 11
After a while of descending down the cave, a large opeining was revealed. A pool of lava illuminated the cave, and ores were scattered around the rough walls. The coal and iron didn't catch my interest. However, there was something resting on the walls which did appeal to me. On the wall near the lava lake there seemed to be some sort of red substance in it, which was bringing a maroon glow to the space around it. I slowly walked towards it, watching cautiously to make sure that Wolf didn't idiotically lose his life to the lava. Thankfully, we managed to move around to the stone without any casualties. I took out my stone pickaxe and began hitting the stone around the red substance - which I had dubbed 'redstone' - and after a while of hitting, the stone disappeared but nothing was left behind. It was clear that I needed something stronger to break the redstone. I took out my iron pickaxe instead, and began hitting another block of redstone. This time it worked; a small object of sorts dropped to the ground infront of me as a reward. This object was red, small and emitted a small amount of light. With my new find, Wolf and I ran back through the cave and ascended my stairway mine.
