Here's what you'll need: Diamond pick, bucket of water, and tape.(Scotch tape prefered.)

Here's what you do...find a long vein of Obsidian, dig one hole downward, then fill the current hole with water. Hop into the waterfilled hole, face the way that has the most Obsidian. Take out pick and tape down your left mouse button. Lastly, sit back and watch tv as you auto mine while the water auto cools lava below and beside you and pushes you forward to mine the next block.

Here's an example:

:)  :DORE:  :obsidian:  :obsidian:  :obsidian:  :obsidian:
:Water:  :obsidian:  :obsidian:  :obsidian:  :obsidian:  :obsidian:  :obsidian:
:iapprove:  :SSSS:  :obsidian:  :obsidian:  :obsidian:  :obsidian:

Its not perfect and some people may complain about it but its tedious to mine normally.

How did he die detective?
He was auto-mining and then he fell into a pit of lava when the water did not progress past the 7th block.

why not make a pit you make it in have a gradual gradient so water pushes you down while mine it. Bit like a mob convenor only for obsidian. Have a script auto changes pick after a few min could have it going for a few hours till run out of quickslots.

Thank you, its nice to see someone that appreciates it. Also keep in mind as they said, the water doesn't go on forever, also you'll have to skip lines to make channels, like this

I'm not sure why but I seem to dig/mine slower while under water. Plus you have to worry about drowning.

A cool way to use obsidian is to get buckets of lava and then make a mold and pour the lava in and then the obsidian.

yeah but its much easier to just find large underground pools of lava, less pouring and more smashing rocks.

Standing in water like the topic creator suggested won't affect your speed. Being *under* water, where you start using up oxygen, is when you'll suffer slower mining speeds. It doesn't matter if the block you're mining is underwater or not, the only thing that affects mining speed is if you are under water or not.

Glad to be of service! I would think many people will be farming it to make gates, which I plan to do. I also plan to make a small base entirely of obsidian in "The underworld" Since I hear ghasts set things on fire and blow things up, So I want a "Tonka Tuff" base.
