Basically fill the holes with lava, then cover them put a water spring somewhere and itl turn to obby
Use crouch walk if you are scared of falling into the lave (which if you walk over the lines of the blocks you wont) since you cant fall off a block in crouch, but if you crouch, go to the end of a block, then let go you will fall. But as i said if you walk over the lines, you wont fall in.
Bring two buckets, one for lava, and one for water
One diamond pick
And whatever else you want
By the way obby takes about 10 seconds to mine with a diamond pick

I have found that placing a water source block right next to the obsidian block I am mining almost always quenches nearby lava fast enough to get the obsidian block.

When all is said and done, Will you have said more than you have done?
I pretty much always 'cast' my obsidian in place. far quicker than looking for diamonds, and uses less time mining the stuff.
I do that too. It makes me wonder, is it faster to have a full inventory of buckets to take down with you to bring lava back up and cast it, or take the time to slowly mine it after pouring water on it down there.
Either caste the obsidian or dig out a single chunk from a lava pool turned obby. Then put a water spring inside that hole, and tape your mouse button down looking at the obby. The water will move and force you forward through the obby as you mine it while you can go afk for a bit over a minute.
pleas tell me your methods.
So, I think natural tunnels are the best way.
Video proof.

I believe this is the best way to obtain Obsidian in large amounts.

I think the best way would be finding a natural spring of lava and pouring water on it.
You win all the time, you just do something different.
