"It's freaking fantastic. Has to be the best adventure map I've ever seen. EVER. The place is massive! The storyline is captivating! And it's insanely beautiful!" - Kyle_Crafty

Asteroid 5251 is an adventure/survival/quest/puzzle/story map. You must use your mining and crafting skills as well as scavenge from chests. As you survive through epic settings, the tale unfolds via a browser based storyline. You must use written as well as visual clues to make your way through the map. Some quests and puzzles will confront your path. Some are optional.

Asteroid 5251 uses a unique gameplay someone recently called surventure mode. No mods or special textures are necessary. The player is free to mine the map for resources, build things, etc. but must refrain from breaking "man-made" constructs, or otherwise placing or breaking blocks to access new areas. With the exception of the beginning area, no blocks need to be placed or broken to progress through to the end of the map.

For Minecraft 1.81 and 1.0.0

SUGGESTED MOD: Void Fog Remover: http://dl.dropbox.co...4935/other.html
Play this map as it was ment to be played, without void fog. Using this mod will clear up some of the navigation issues players have experienced.

SUGGESTED MOD (1.81 only): Endermen Don't Pick Up Blocks Mod: http://www.minecraft...er-multiplayer/

People have had issues in 1.8 with endermen removing parts of the rail system, use this mod to fix that.

ASTEROID 5251 MAP DOWNLOAD: http://www.mediafire...zw4apz2cng39x5g

(Version 4 - fixes a navigation issue on the final minecart ride)
(Version 3 - fixes problems with two puzzles)
(Version 2 - fixes the problem with mobs on the minecart tracks)

This download contains a readme.txt file with instructions on how to install and use the map. Game rules and storylines can be accessed using the Asteroid 5251.htm file. The map was designed for single-player but would be very appropriate for multi-play as well. It is highly suggest that the map be played at least on easy difficulty.

:Indigo:  :Indigo:  :Indigo:  ------ How it begins ------  :Indigo:  :Indigo:  :Indigo:

For over 50 years the Taracon corporation has followed and harvested ore from the Mezzanine meteor field. Your followed your fathers line of work, identifying the richest asteroids and dragging them out of the field for safe harvest. Even with advanced guidance systems, flying an XD23-tug into the field is dangerous work, but it makes for an early retirement for those who survive. You were on a routine flight when you noticed a strange signal comming from an asteroid with the ID 5251A-32. Impossible you thought. It seemed to be a distress signal, but nothing could live in this field, and what's more it had to have a massive power source. Signals dont travel well in the field and this signal was almost 3 clips in.

Posted Image

Your first mistake was deciding to check it out. With no means of communication in the field, it's best to stay within the charted lane in case something malfunctions. They can find you then. Your second mistake was to spend a few to many moments gawking at the sheer size of 5251, and failing to engage the auto-nav. When a ship is hit, there usually aren't any survivors. When the field gets stirred up, navigation becomes a nightmare. Lucky for you, the crunching sound of an asteroid impact lurched the ship straight towards 5251. Of course, you thought this was the end, but it turns out it was the beginning of an adventure.

I agree too. It seems like all maps nowadays are just puzzle maps. I love maps where there's an adventure component, but the game is completely open-world. Seems really cool

Progress is comming along nicely, but there's a lot to be done. I've worked my way through several areas adding notes and chest contents. At this rate, I should easily be done in several weeks.

Yea, I'm going to release a few more and try to organize the main post. Here is a picture of one of the many caverns in Asteroid 5251. I don't want to give too many things away though. Just enough to make people really really want this map.  :D

This started out as me playing around with MCedit. I made this huge chunk of stone and covered it in craters, not knowing what I was about to do. The idea for a crash story occured to me early on, but I had no idea how big this project would become, or how much time it would take. I basically made the whole thing up as I went, asking, what kind of cool environment can I create next? The story also got pieced together as I built and imagined what might have happened here. It morphed at lot and I probably played around with concepts I forgot, but by the end I had a pretty solid idea of the events I wanted the player to learn about, and how I would integrate that into the side quests and the overall quest of getting off the asteroid.

It was pretty tough to resolve having an entire medieval realm inside a space based map, but I think things are turning out well.

A new preview picture has been added.

I'm almost 1/3 way through customizing the map. It's basically split up into 3 sections. All three contain story elements, but the first is built with survival/adventure in mind. The second contains those elements, but also contains a handful of puzzles and quests. The third sections is geared towards completing quests to advance.

Honestly, I'm not sure that format will be entertaining for everyone. Puzzles and quests will seem sparse during the first leg of the adventure. I'm hoping the settings and storyline will make the first section intresting enough.

Haha, well I'm taking pics as I work through the map, and I would hate to release it unfinished. I guess I could quit advertizing it til it's almost ready.

Almost done with the next section of the map. I want you guys to know I've considered ditching this project several times. But I'm too crazy to stop now. I'm not even sure the map will be that fun. The main problem is that it might be too big. It has been a lot of fun to build, but it's not possible to fill every nook and cranny with intresting things.

I really enjoy playing around with map editors and making cool settings. Here is another sneak peak. It's part of a massive survival base. Most of the puzzles are found here. There really aren't a lot of puzzles compared to some "puzzle maps", but I've tried hard to make them intresting. I kinda shy away from doing basic jumping things and tried to make puzzles that would challenge the player to use their noggin. I'm afraid a lot of people will find them too difficult.

I'm almost through adding dialogue to the final areas, maybe another day or two. Then I'll go back through. I think I'm going to add spawners to some areas, and do a final run through to make sure everything is right. I can't believe I'll be finished soon.

The hardest part on creating such stuff is getting it finished.
This project might be a little bit big for only one person... whatever, I hope it'll be finished soon :)

The dialogue is mostly done. I had made a fairly firm decision a while back not to use the Nether, but as I wrote the story down and got near the end, I realized that without the Nether the ending would kinda fall flat.

Fortunately, I was working on a giant evil looking castle for the Medieval Construction Kit before I started this project. All I have to do is create a custom Nether (1 day), and finish the castle (1-2 days), and finish the story (1-2 hours). Then I'll need a few days to do a final test run.

So, I said several weeks to finish when I started this thread, and I'm still on schedule. Unless there is some unforseen problem that comes up during final testing, the map should be out sometime next week.

I almost wish I had waited to post this thread because I've been cramming to finish... but eh, probably better this way. I'm actually looking forward to not having a Minecraft project to work on. :)
