Welcome, minecrafter, to the newb-friendly, comprehensive guide on how to setup a Minecraft server using Bukkit! Bukkit is the popular successor to hMod, a server software for Minecraft. It is easy to customize with hundreds of plugins and thousands of users. Plus, it is always up to date! We'll be going over how to install Bukkit! Before we start, though, prepare yourself for the most simple (yet satisfying) tutorial ever. Are you ready? Let's begin.

Step 1.
Download the operating system specific setup:

Windows

Step 2.
Follow the instructions in the setup you downloaded.

Step 3.
Congratulations, you've installed Bukkit!

Frequently Asked Questions

How can my server be joined?
To connect a Minecraft server, you can enter its IP address. Yours can be found here.

I get an error that says the CraftBukkit .jar file cannot be located.
Ensure that the .jar file was renamed to "craftbukkit.jar" when you saved it. Also make sure that the .jar file is in the same folder as the .bat file.

I'm getting a warning that says "FAILED TO BIND PORT!"
Open your task manager, go to "Processes", select "Show processes from all users", and close everything called "java.exe". Also, make sure in the "server.properties" file, there is nothing after "server-ip=".

If that doesn't work, make sure no other servers are running on the same port. If no other servers are running, make sure the port you are using is port-forwarded on your router.

When I try to connect to a server, it says "Took too long to log in" or "End of stream".
The server you are trying to connect to doesn't use the same version as your Minecraft client.

If you are trying to connect to your server and it shows this, download the latest build from here. Then place the .jar file into the folder with the server starter, go into the server starter, and rename the .jar file to the one you want to use.

Ok let's stop playing the idiot.

Some people just can't understand that other people actually made lot of effort to make the the most simple thing even more simple. I highly appreciate the work of the Bukkit wiki. I think that everyone that actually ask question on how running Bukkit should instantly be referred to the Bukkit Wiki before they actually have the chance of posting a thread to ask for help.

I'm not sure... But I agree with his statement that people need to read the bukkit wiki before begging for help on the forums. If people cant make a bukkit server on their own then they shouldnt. Simple as that...

That has definitely been a problem for me in the other forum where I posted this thread, many people fail to look at obvious places for help like the "Read Me" or previous posts. However I do enjoy the bumps.

Hmm, after i skip the ad in adfly, i get directed to the download page. Thats fine, but the odd thing is that Norton blocks the webpage. I can still download the file, but the webpage itself is blocked by norton, and I have no idea as to why.

Ensure that you downloaded the .jar file (without renaming it) to the folder with the .bat file.
