The year is 10,000 BN (Before Notch). You are a simple human leader, whose species is experiencing a burst of intelligence never before seen in this world. You have the brains, now it's time to rise against the wild and take your place in this struggle for survival!
This challenge is rather simple. It's pretty loose, but there is some backbone to this.
First, the challenge is aimed at recreating the experience of Human growth and advancement throughout history. You start off in a very primitive age in a very wild world.
Keep track of how many days and night you've been through - because these are years!
Everyone starts on 10,000 BN and slowly rises through the years as each full minecraft day passes.
(Primitive Era) Days 1 - 4 are worth 2,000 years. After the first four full days you are on 2,000 BN.
(Ancient Era) Days 5 - 24 are worth 100 years. After these days you should end up on 0 BN.
(Notch Era) 0 BN is the year Notch came into existence. This day is 50 years, so after this day you will end up on 50 AN (After Notch)
(Medieval Era) Days 26 - 30 (remember 0 BN is special and was the 26th day) - Days are woth 100 again. You should end up on 1550 AN
(Enlightenment and Exploration Era) Days 31 - 35 Days are now worth 50. You should end on 1800 AN
(Post Modern Era) Days 36 - 40 Days are worth 20 years. You should end up on 1900 AN
(Global Era) Days 41 - 45 Days are still worth 20 years. You should end up on 2,000 AN
(Modern Era) Days 46 - 50 Days are now worth 10 years. You should end up on 2050 AN
(Future Era) Days 51 and Up - These years are worth 50 from now on. The future is yours! Go nuts! Have a civil war! Find a clean renewable energy! Share your civilizations and how far they've come in those long 50 days. :smile.gif:
Some Standard Terms
-------------------
Villages are defined as having 3 - 5 buildings. They are the smallest centers of civilization.
Towns are defined as 6 - 9 buildings.
Cities are defined as having 10 or more buildings. They must have a City Hall of any type. Every city built before 1800 must have a Outer Wall around all its original buildings - but can have buildings outside of the wall. Only buildings inside the wall are counted towards the required buildings to be defined as a City.
Capital City - This is your first city. It's the first complex of building you first create and will be your Capital until you reach 1800 AN. After 1800 AN you can change your Capital to wherever you please.
Some Ideas to Glorify Your Civilization!
----------------------------------------
-Name your Civilization! Your country!- Every civ has a name - create your own name for your land and people. For example I choose to name my land Morca and my civilization is the Morcanos!
-Name your Cities!- Every city has a name - So should yours! Even naming your city No Name is still a name.
-Create your own god!- try not to get too offended by this people. Nearly every early civilization had a local divine being. Rather it be gods, goddesses, a god, or spirits... You can have whatever you'd like. Bonus points to players who create mass architectural projects dedicated to their local divine being.
-Build roads!- Every civilization needs a fast way to get to cities...
Also - Last rule! Play on Easy or higher! Seriously, what civilization has no enemies?
-OPTIONAL-
Take pictures each day of how your civilization has progressed throughout the days. Even take pictures of impressive building you created! :smile.gif:
-OPTIONAL-
I created my own map just to try out my own challenge. It's a pretty basic very large island. If you have a map you may know instantly what the island is. It has wood and I myself have yet to completely explore all of it...
~Please click these Eggs, you should try out MagiStream~ “When you cut pieces out of the truth to avoid looking like a fool you end up looking like a moron instead.”

Cities don't require Cathedrals. That was extremely ignorant to say. While many early cities did revolve around religion, Cathedrals are certainly not the center of worship cities depended on.
City Hall - I chose that name because it is a center of management. Most towns and cities have a center of management - no matter what religion they are.
Cathedrals are catholic. If you choose to worship God in Minecraft be my guest.
It sounds interesting but, it needs a bit more thought out. For example what will the restrictions be for each "Era", what i mean by that is only stone tools during the first two eras or something like that.
Also you need rules otherwise it isnt exactly a challenge as well as limits to the challenge.
Interestingly enough, I tried this in earlier drafts of this Challenge.
It doesn't work. besides, I think in the first four days of Civilization - you won't get much done besides building some basic shelters or cutting trees.
Or at least, that's what I could get done. I'm on 4,000 BN and I've only established three small huts in a village.
Why do you need rules/goals? Does real civilization have set-in-stone goals?
I find it enough just to build a civilization and watch how it naturally grows. If you need a challenge, just set some cities on fire once in a while and pretend there's been a war.
It is a good concept, but it requires some work I believe.
There should be some sort of restrictions in place for each age, for example not making use of redstone until much farther in the game.
If this were made into a server, I would definitely play it. A plugin could easily be made to prevent people from crafting/using certain items at certain ages. Instead of days marking when you will advance, you have to bring in a GM, show them around your village and your accomplishments, and they upgrade it to the next age.
this made want to go play civ 5 again but i cant cause my laptops charger is broken on topic: realy cool challange when i get my charger for my laptop :sleep.gif: i will be trying this out and what about the nether? is there anything for the challange there?
I am going to do this challenge... but i am going to use some mods that will make it better when i get into the future...

well with me using IndustrialCraft and BuildCraft i will be able to expand my intelligence far beyond the average civilization, so i will be able to take-over and rule with not an iron fist but with a diamond fist...:smile.gif:
Hello, and as interesting as this challenge appears, and therefore, exciting, I have decided to tackle it for higher !!FUN!! I shall record my findings in regular intervals like this at times.
Day 1
I proceeded to explore my surroundings, and chanced across 1 tree. Bare in mind this was an island, with no other features of sort. I realize this is to be where my capital and future city-state to be located, so I set to work on it. 6 wood is just enough to survive a night, so I set about making a pick and attack the exposed stone wall in Island 1, as I have no better name of it. I pick away at the interior and carve out a troglodyte living quarters of small proportions. It was not, however uncomfortable, and I plan to make it a feature of sorts upon the future advancement of civilization. I burned some logs to get a bit of charcoal, and carefully made eight torches with some cut up planks. I dug out a bit more and retired for the night.

Have fun!
See my About Me section for info about me.
I've also kept a written history of my civilization in a separate text file - I'd use a book mod, but I can't get string :sleep.gif:
Really it's just a way of telling time.
