The idea is that players have a 2-3 days to gather what resources they can.
On the 4th day the sun will start burning everything.

The day night cycle will stop. The sun will burn random patches of grass turing it to dirt, trees will burn, and water will dry up.

Any player, animal, or mob caught out in sun will catch on fire.

The world will become a waste land. The monsters will spawn under ground in large amount. Players will need to build shady places to grow trees and build underground farms, animals will only be able spawn in the shade or in underground grass farms.

The goal will be to survive.

I figure the mod will run on a server or single player the server will have commands to start the apoc, and maybe a way to stop it so the world can regrow.

I do have some programing knowledge but I haven't found any mac modding tools and haven't done much with java.




Simple Code changes to make this happen.

Stop the day night cycle shouldn't be hard, find the program that controls it and stop it.
I think the burning of mobs in sunlight could be altered to burn everything.
Alter the grass to be flammable like leaves or wood?

Then build code to burn random places like lava sparks.
Use lighting to start fires!


I think that would cover the basics of what i want to do.

Sounds cool, but also sounds like a lot of work. I have no experience with modding either, so I can't help.

Update:
Started messing with the programing I think this mod is something i can do, but I could use some help with the advanced stuff.

I made all grass in direct sun catch on fire then turn to dirt.


Heres my Vision:

Heres a update of my progress

The sun increases in size each stage by 100%
Grass randomly disappears in stage 2 and in stage 3-4 catches on fire.

I could maybe add an underground dimension to go when everything starts burning... It'll take some work though. I could also add blocks, item, armor, tool sets, furnaces, you name it. Tell me what to do and I'll take a whack at it.

Ok I think its ready for a play test. but theres still lots more to do. I'll set up a download so you guys can try it and give me advice.

I'd imagine that all you'd have to do is either set it up to be triggered by a server admin or something, on multiplayer, or have a default run.

I'm not quite sure on the way the modding works, I'm new to it all, but I'd suppose that it'd make sense to have it done it'd work something like:

Day/cycle 1 you'd have it increase slowly
Day/cycle 2, the increase of heat, light, would grow exponentially.
Day/cycle 3, the exponential growth would be enough to make the cold biomes vanish, regular biomes desert.
Day/cycle 4, exponential growth is going to be noticeable throughout the day.

I can't imagine that it'd be too complex for an exponential growth programming, exponential growth occurs naturally even. You'd just have to make some formulas.

I have no idea though, this is just a n00b's perspective.

Also some ideas you could consider: A heat suit to allow you to venture onto the post-apocalyptic world. This way you could maybe attempt expanding out onto the surface in domes?

Maybe add in a Redstone Power Generator, so you could make a bunker with lighting like a standard Minecraft day lighting? That'd be easier than torches everywhere, and it'd really fit the theme a lot I think. It could also provide a reason to go to the surface - to collect parts from the pre-apocalyptic world to repair the generator if it goes wrong?

You could also try to make a mob that lives in lava that is on the surface that'd drop something valuable - maybe something that'd help farming or something?

Lots of potential, for sure. I don't know how possible all of it is, I'm new to the modding community, just some thoughts though.
