The CUBEception Review - 5 Diamonds:
Looking at the forum page for CUBEception I was more than surprised. It has everything! I'm not joking: trailers, other reviews, screenshots and even a walkthrough. CUBEception has had so much work put into it and it shows. Every single thing about this map has been lovingly made and tweaked to perfection, and I haven?t even started playing yet.
The CUBEception is an Adventure/Parkour map made by the Gustavo Entertainment Team. The story revolves around the player being trapped in one of the last human shelters 'The Cube' after some form of apocalypse (a bit like the Vault from fallout 3). The player must escape from this shelter and find a way to get outside. Notes have been left behind by another prisoner called 'Gustav' and these provide the story and other important information. I don't want to ruin the plot for you, but the basic point is that people started going crazy about the CUBE, and believing in a CUBE God. Meanwhile a religious group have started turning people in to slaves. I guess it's all of the crazy people that lead to the CUBE's downfall.
The map has a good sense of exploration. There are no signs telling you the way to go, only hints and tips. The map leaves you to find your own way to goal, but doesn't let you stray far from the path. However I still felt free in the world; it's very hard to nail such a sense of freedom in Minecraft Maps, but it has been done perfectly. The map is has a strong atmosphere, and this really provides a chilling and scary world for you to explore.
Redstone is used to full effect in the map. The title introduction is very impressive and I also enjoyed the bridge provided by the Cube God himself. The map tries to impress you but not show off. A lot of its puzzles are either Parkour or Redstone based and this provides a comfortable puzzling system where any puzzle can be solved by hitting a switch or jumping.
I do have some criticisms though. The exploration part can get a bit annoying when it becomes impossible to tell where you need to go next. Early on I found a switch, common sense told me to hit it. I heard pistons but just couldn?t see what had opened. The lack of hints becomes annoying and I found myself often going back to the forum page to look at the walkthrough. But maybe that's just me; perhaps I?m not very good at this adventure thing. Either way it's not game breaking, only annoying.
I played the CUBEception for over 2 hours and I still haven't finished it. It's remarkably long, and is impressive visually throughout. Giving this map anything less than 5 diamonds would be a crime. This map deserves to be praised; it's creative, original and long. I would recommend that you and maybe some friends play the first few chapters, but don?t get bogged down if it seems to go on forever. I loved playing this map and so should you!

-Nice start, found the book
-Using the short cut system useful as well.
-Wow! The cube is a great idea to have everything in one place where you can see everything! It really does give you the sense that this is isolation from the rest of the world.
-At the Welcome to chapter sign, if you look down you can see a farm with some water in a cross shape. It is actually possible to jump down into the water and survive.
-I love it how it says "I'm hading towards the surface, follow me if you dare" and there is a ladder going down.
-Yay! Found another book! I'm really getting into this book searching now...
-Unclear of where to go after Smith's house, but I guess that's part of the challenge!
-Chapter 1: Nice and easy start, good lead on down to the aquaduct and through to Chapter 2. Great beginning challenge to get the ball rolling
)
-Chapter 2: This chapter really advances the story a lot, and has no lack of jumping puzzles to keep people entertained. This chapter is really nicely organised, and again smoothly moves on into Chapter 3. Great building! (Also, I found one secret room
)
-Love chamber 13!
-Perhaps you could add a secret room in the dark obsidian rooms (Chamber 8), on the floor there could be a ladder going down, but of course it would be very hard to see...
-Again, this really doesnt matter but a good place for a secret room would be x:-47, y:15, z:18 (In Slavetown)
-Chapter 3: This chapter seems to be about the skills of the player. The jumping puzzles add difficulty to the story and make it more of a challenge.
-The suspense building up as I'm climbing up the spire is killing me!
-Chapter 4: This is just set in the Enclave, which is an amazing building! I can tell you spent a lot of time on this Chapter. There is no lack of jumping or puzzles and once again, the story advances. I love the suspense that continues through this chapter!
-Hah! I love the future of revolutionary transport with the pistons! I'm sure they wont mind if I sneak a little look at the redstone to see how it works...
-I assume I was just supposed to place an iron block as the circuit switch...
-Chapter 5: While it is a short chapter, it still is a great continuation with a solid storyline and still the general feel to this map so far! Final Run, here we go...
-Wow! I just realised I'm actually running on "THE CUBE"!!! (By the way, love the piston elevator
)
-Really? Frozen geyser?????
-"Goodbye, Cube...
!!! IS THAT SUNLIGHT????
-Woah... so many Cubes that aren't actually cube-shaped...
-TWENTY ONE BOOKS????? Wow, I failed with 10...
-Chapter 6: The last, very suspenseful, parkour packed chapter in the map is a spectacular ending to a wonderful map. It is a smooth finish (but I have been reading the comments and it sounds like I missed the "real ending"
I WILL go back and find it...) and just ends the story with a bang. Congrats!
Anyway, amazing map! It really does stand out from the others with a great storyline, an awesome adventure and some great jumping puzzles! You have really spent a lot of time on this and it was definitely worth it! The buildings are just spectacular, the jumping puzzles set in the different environments are original, and the storyline is smooth but complex, and also solid and it doesn't falter anywhere, (a big problem with most adventure maps). Overall, great job! Loved the map. one of my favourites! 19.5/20 from me!!!

Ah, Cubeception. I simply love this map, with its engaging storyline, fantastic mix of adventure, puzzles, and parkour, and unique visuals. However, it's not perfect.
1) Story: As mentioned before, I love this story. It's unique, conveyed well, and compelling--it actually makes you WANT to escape this god forsaken Cube. There are a few plot holes now and then and a cliche or two, but overall, it's one of the best map stories I've ever seen. 14/15
2) Visuals: This map isn't skimpy on the eye candy. In fact, it lets you see most of the design in all its grandeur right at the end of Chapter 1. And boy, is it fun to see. Every locale is nice and unique, and it actually looks realistic--well, as realistic as a giant cube can get. Well, except for the mines. That place was a clusterf$%k. 14/15
3) Challenge/Difficulty: This map isn't terribly difficult, but it does require thought to get through. Each puzzle/parkour segment is fun to find out the solution to. Not to mention the difficulty is kept at a nice pace, and it even puts in piston parkour correctly. I rarely do this, but.... 10/10
4) Length: There's one problem with an epic map: It's an epic, and by that I mean HORRENDOUSLY...LONG. This is probably the longest map I've ever played...well, besides LoB. There's the only real problem with this map--you simply cannot finish it in under in an hour. And that's not that bad of a thing, anyway. 9/10
Total Score: 47/50
Percentage Score: 94%
Score out of 10: 9.4/10
Overall, Cubeception is nearly perfect. With an almost perfect story, fantastic visuals, and an epic length, this is another must-have map. Hell, it's Doc's Fantabulous Reviews's ALL-TIME HIGH review! Go get this map! LIKE, NOW!

This map was great. It had a great storyline, with difficult, but still do-able puzzles, and challenges. The multiplayer really involved team work, which was a great experience.
The storyline was a little hard to understand at first, but once you got into the map, the pieces started to come together.
The parkour was easy enough for a beginner, but challenging enough to entertain an experienced minecraft player.
The map was large, and had good length of gameplay, and it wasn't repetitive. It wasn't the easiest map to complete, as the puzzles were difficult to find the solution for.
Overall, great map for anyone who wants to have a bit of a challenge. Defiantly recommend multiplayer as it makes the experience that much more enjoyable.

The map took about 120 minutes for me to do, but I was pretty slow and died about 3 times per chapter (I'm not great at parkour, and that was pretty much what this map was), so it would probably take you a bit less time. It kept my interest all the way, regardless of the frequent story notes (more on that in the story section!)

The difficulty was definitely kept at constant pace - never once did it become VERY DIFFICULT and then VERY EASY. That being said, I didn't feel that it was becoming gradually more difficult as it neared the end, which is a bit of a disappointment. Also, the difficulty didn't have a whole lot of range, as there were only parkour challenges standing in the way.

The story is one of the best I've ever seen in a minecraft map - and that's saying a lot, because I've played numerous maps! Basically, the Earth has nearly been destroyed, and the catastrophic events have pushed humanity into its last resort in survival. The CUBE is now said to be the only safe place left on destroyed earth, and that is where your journey begins. How can you not enjoy that amazing intro? The story keeps up with you well throughout the entire map - all chapters. The only problem I have with the story is that the notes are so frequent that they almost become annoying after a while. I don't know if every bit of story was needed - perhaps a few bits could be taken out or shortened and added into other areas? Just a suggestion and an explanation as to why this only got pair of gold leggings.

There isn't much to say about the puzzles in this map. There were ONLY PARKOUR puzzles, though many required thinking in order to gain access to certain areas. However, for the most part, the parkour didn't seem forced and fit in well. NOTE THAT THE IRON BOOTS IN THIS ARE NOT BAD, BUT INDICATING THAT THERE WAS NOT A HUGE VARIETY.

The atmosphere was great. The destroyed CUBE is very nice and, despite the lack of difficulty, quite creepy. Some of the story notes are also scary-ish (great English, I know) and the atmosphere helps mend the times where the immersion in the game is broken (by the frequency of the story notes, to quote CalmAppleSnake). Very good job in the atmospheric aspect of the map!

Overall, the map is very enjoyable and fares well against other, more varied maps. I was a bit confused by the ending, though at the same time I can't imagine something better. So I guess that works to be fair. While the only challenges are jumping ones, they are the perfect type to suit a map of this nature. GOLD GOES TO YOU, SIR!
Overall, this is how the CUBEception's armor set works out to be!

Very nice!

Overall rating, review, etc....-
I give this map a 8/10.
Good points-
1.This map, has more thought put into it. The look of the map itself is great, There isn't any mixed up dirt, gravel,
etc...
2.It offers a challenge-Some may be tougher than others, some easy. I loved the beginning jumping. You have managed to make wood and cobble look awesome together.
3.Storyline is great. Thought put in it.
4.Simple puzzles (for me). It isn't like some maps I have tried, where I practically explode of rage.Easy to understand, simple and clever.
5.It overall, is quite a good map to play, if you have tried TONS of custom maps.I have played A LOT of maps, believe me, this map just tops-off everything.Like the cherry on your dessert.(Y'know, the best part?)
Bad points-
1.I got lost. That ticked me off.Espescially in the beginning.I couldn't find the right place.
And I accidentaly fell onto some glowstone, and saw an opening.I head in it, saw wood, and there was a pumpkin(glowing) there.
I wish there were signs or whatnot to show you the way, unless this is A VERY open map.
My opinion-
I give this map 4 Notch's out of 5.Worth playing, but be ready to RAGEEEE!!!!

You wake up in a prison (I guess?) that has been broken down by lava and earthquakes. You escape from your cell through some parkour over a lave flow, and it was an interesting parkour puzzle, not unoriginal and stupid like most parkour. So you get to a bloc of cells, and one is open, yo meet Gustav through his notes he left behind. BUT, this confused me, later he referred to us as "we", are we actually together? Or are you being inconsistent with his notes? Or am I stupid? Or is it all of the above?
The map is divided into 5 chapters, 1 chapter 0, and an epilogue. I'll be perfectly honest. I got totally lost in chapter 2.
Apparently others could make it through, but I got lost just past the library. However, that doesn't stop me from trying to get a feel for this map!
I flew around and dropped myself in random places, enjoying the adventure. Now, you didn't include many real puzzles, but I still enjoyed myself. Odd. The atmosphere you created was awesome.
Oh god I got sidetracked, BACK TO THE STORY
You are in a CUBE, sorry THE CUBE. Apparently there was a great disaster and the managers of THE CUBE abducted people, wiped their memories, and dropped them in prison cells inside THE CUBE.Some sort of disaster happened in THE CUBE and you and Gustav see this as a perfect chance to escape. The escape route is literally right outside the spawn point, but shucks, there is a 3 block wide gap. I guess I'll have to trek around the ENTIRE CUBE. If I could have I would have found a dirt block, placed it, and jumped across to freedom. NO.
This is a POP map (Play-on-peaceful) so there is 0 combat. Usually a good thing. Usually. But honestly, a good zombie fight would have been pretty cool inside THE CUBE. Unfortunately the whole map is pitch black. I guess no monster fight. The escape trek has al sorts of innovative parkour and runaround escape quests.
BTW: As much as I hated how you implemented it, thanks for including the checkpoint system, most maps either don't bother or are so short you can complete it by noon and go make yourself a skull fortress in a nearby mountain. (Zero Punctuation Game Review reference. If you have never watched Zero Punctuation Reviews clear your plans for tomorrow and sit on your butt and watch every single one. Your laughing muscles will thank me. DO IT. DO IT NAUGH!)
Frankly, as much as it reminded me of Escape the Facility in a good way, it also reminded me of EtF in the bad ways. As enormous as it is, it feels like several different but similar maps glued together. And it got incredibly tedious. Scale only works if you have content to fill it with.
The ending bothered me because you get out and Gustav says "I knew they were lying!" Our world is still here!" or some other nonsense. Well guess what. THE ENTIRE WORLD IS FILLED WITH WATER. OBVIOUSLY IT IS NOT FINE. You made it on a water flatmap I understand, but why does Gustav think that is a good thing?
Oh well. This map deserved more time then I was willing to devote to it. Sad really. Hopefully you will pull more enjoyment out of it then I did.
3/5

3/5

Map Description:
Cubeception 2 is a story driven, jumping focused adventure map with escape feeling. Platforming, parkouring, looking for levers, puzzles, traps, secret rooms, good storyline and grand scale architecture. Map is divided into 6 chapters + prologue and epilogue, and it's about 2 - 4 hours long. Single player and multi player versions are much different - single player is similar in terms of gameplay to the first Cubeception, while multiplayer has some of the puzzles and locations redesigned for cooperative mode (like Portal 2 or It's Better Together).

CubeCeption 2: 9.9/10
This is the best Minecraft map I've ever played. It blows everything else out of the water completely. Amazing story, fantastic visuals, and an epic length make for what I can certainly say is the best Minecraft map of all time. Read on, shall we?
1) Story: The story continues where it left off in Cubeception, revealing you as someone named "Root" travelling along with your partner, Gustav. The story is incredibly intricate, moving, and well-written, with plenty of humor between characters, which gives a huge boost to character development. There are also the svelte things, not related to the story: I noticed tons upon tons of references to some of my favorite things (and even ones to DaDonn, rsmalec, and myself. Thank you :3) which helped immersion so much. I rarely ever do this, but I think CubeCeption 2 deserves this and more. 15/15
2) Visuals: Oh my god. This map gave me a heart attack with its visuals. Every building is different, yet connected somehow. The parkour and puzzles move seamlessly through the environment, and even act as part of it. Towards the end, it even engrosses you in different environments that were wholly unnecessary, but immersive. This is deserved. 15/15
3) Challenge/Difficulty: As mentioned before, the parkour and puzzles blend seamlessly into the environment. As for the parkour itself, it is neither too easy nor too hard, being at a perfect difficulty level. The puzzles are great--EVEN THE MAZES. This is the first map I've ever completed a maze in, due to the innovative "gimmicks" involved with each one so that there's not so much backtracking. The only thing I hate are the redstone puzzles. I never really understood the intricacies of redstone (however, there's even a mini-tutorial in the map!), so maybe that's just me. 9.5/10
4) Length: This is the longest map I have ever played. It is nearly three hours of epic fun and story-weaving. This isn't the kind of map that drags on forever, no no no. This is the kind of map that makes you wish it was longer. 10/10
Final Score: 49.5/50
Percentage Score: 99%
Score out of 10: 9.9/10
Overall, this is the best map I have ever played in my lifetime. It is incredibly immersive, plays great, weaves a fantastic story, and presents a great challenge. And it's still in beta (for me, anyway). This is the best MineCraft map I have ever played, and possibly the best ever. Once it gets out of beta, you need to play this map.
