Discontinued!

see page 26 for details.

Hi everyone.  Welcome to G's Smooth Modern HD.  This pack is designed for modern'ish city building, and works best for creative. It is meant to be a nice blend between realism and fantasy, without losing the original feel of Minecraft.

It changes the terrain, lighting, biome and block coloring, partial gui, and a few items. it also has an hd font, custom animations, and basic ctm support (pretty much everything mcpatcher adds).. until I get to everything else it will remain a slightly modified default.

This pack also has custom textures for most minimap mods, Iron Chests, standard/seuss glsl support. More mod support coming soon, see changelog.

Video is way old, but shows off the shaders very well. A lot has changed since I made it, but you can see a lot of the details that the bumpmapping adds to the pack.

Changelog (I will try to keep this up to date.. no promises)

Spoiler:

This pack is huge, and requires running minecraft with 2gig of memory or more allocated to java for it to function on most computers.

This pack is designed with the use of Dax Nitros GLSL Shader Mod in mind, and the pack looks best with it optimized for 256x textures.

See Readme for instructions!

Worry not about looking for something different with this pack!!  You can be a part of it too!!
I have limits to what I can visualize and create, and I want this pack  to be for everyone, so I'm opening it up to community involvement.

Share your ideas, your designs, armor, items, weapons... anything you would like to see a part of this pack and you will receive full credit for them. Can't draw/create? No problem!  Describe it in detail, or post an image of something similar and describe the differences you would like and I'll try to make it. If someone posts an idea and you can make it happen, go for it! Also, if you would like to see matching textures for mods like buildcraft etc. and can make it happen please do. I have a ton of unused textures that might be usable so run ideas past me and I may send them to you.

I must admit, I don't fully understand the name...

Looks nice, though. I shan't download, though, as I have no hope of running it without a resize that'll destroy the textures. :(

I have a ton of plugins for gimp and pdn that I'm just starting to learn how to use, and this pack is the result of my tinkering with them for texture generation. the whole totally not realistic part is just my view of realistic= photo quality.

just a side note... only took me a couple days to throw this pack together, and at the rate I'm going on it I should have all of the LB textures replaced by the end of the weekend... plants and tracks give me hell though, so no promises. So far I haven't found any glaring bugs yet, other than the chest top/trapdoor never facing the same way when you log back in... but that's not an issue I can fix without changing the texture... I'm a little aggravated by the fact that the sun texture only shows up during sunrise/sunset.. but it does make for some impressive ones.

and if anyone has suggestions for a real name for the pack... I'm open to them... Fun with Plugins is half joke and half "any idiot can make a pack with gimp" reference.

You mention that you tried to avoid photo manipulation and stock textures, but I instantly recognize the door's trim and handle from a google image.

Of course, I could be misinterpreting what you mean by 'photo manipulation', and if that's the case, I apologize.

here's some constructive criticism.

-needs more blending/smoothing.
-tiling can be improved. (many visible patterns such as dark lines in the stone stand out too much.)
-contrast is a bit high

good start though.

I said try...lol I loved those doors and thought an edit of them would look awesome in game. Whereas my first pack was 90% manipulated stock photo's, this one has minimal use of them..

@Dustyboozer thank's for the feedback! I haven't gotten to the polishing yet. This is just what I've made in the last 4 or so days, and wanted some opinions :P As far as the tiling goes... I kinda wanted some patterns to stand out and not be overly smooth..or realistic. This one is all on personal tastes.. but I figured it was coming along nicely enough to share.

That's fine! I was just double checking. I agree that it's an awesome door trim, you definitely picked a nice one to use. :)

I was expecting some issues with the ore textures. I wanted them to be really low-pro this time. coal needs to be easy to spot.. but iron and diamond imo should be a challenge to find since it's so useful. I did the uber easy to see ores with the first pack.. eventually it seemed like it made finding ore way too easy.

got a lot of work done on the pack... decided to toss out a preview of the upcoming update. I added glsl support and replaced everything but the plants and tracks so far. still tweaking a few things before releasing it though.

side note... the shaders I use are a modified version of Misa's mod files... they are available on my old pack thread bundled with the old installer, so you'll have to pull them out. and note they make pistons wave like the plants and water... (old pre piston shaders, suggest using misa's, available on the GLSL wiki)

You're doing a much better job of things now that you're trying to use your OWN work instead of copying things off of google
Keep up the good work in that respect

I would take it ingame and give you a fair analysis of it if I could run 256x without torturing my computer
