Recently, while working on my 50x50 mining quarry in my main world, I found a rather large and interesting cave system. It literally had everything you could think to find in a cave...all kinds of ores, a dungeon, both kinds of shrooms, even a couple squids...everything really. 2 things jumped out at me, both of which I have yet to see in any cave systems I've seen yet. One was a fully exposed, very open room lava pool. Nothing special about a lava pool really, but this one jumped out at me in particular as most lava pools are either closed off in stone or partially covered by stone. And the second was...tall grass. I kid you not, tall grass. I didn't spawn it and put it there, I didn't mod anything in order to get it there, it's just there. I've seen dirt near lava and on lava plenty of times but never seen tall grass spawn on it. Coordinates and seed are provided in case you'd like to confirm my claim, as well as explore this expansive cave. It's not the most amazing and interesting seed, nor a very special one. But I have yet to see another cave with tall grass in it. Seed: 3624005671472261206

Seems kinda possible. But wouldn't it be on grass not dirt?

Cool find.

I have seen such lava pools before... but tall grass ??? For real... OMG... I would have never believed it if it was not for the screen shot. Maybe the Enderman brought it there... Oh... right they don't exist yet.

Grass requires Sunlight to be created for the first time in a chunk, and for grass itself to get underground or in an otherwise closed off location, you'd need a catalyst grass from the surface. An important fact I've learned from having played all of Vech's Super Hostile maps.

Avidyazen has a recent video of tall grass growing on a dirt block just like that, but with a lava fall instead of a pool. The title was something like "mystery solved."

My theory is that lava does weird things, and one of them is tall grass on dirt instead on grass like normal.

Lava does do weird things. I've seen caves where water is flowing over lava but not making obsidian. They just stay there and nothing happens until a block is broken.
