I patched the game, then added some more mod files (Other mods), then a new texture pack (Plaintry), then I open minecraft, error. Make a new folder (Mods), still error. Take the 3 files out and put them in .minecraft and bin, error. HELP! Also:
I WILL NOT REPATCH. IT IS A PAIN IN THE BUTT TO GET ALL THE MODS INTO MY .JAR.
I like it, but I had to fix a line to make it work in the normal north up east right, etc fashion.
I switched out
«this.map.setRGB(m, n, k);»
for
«this.map.setRGB(63 - n, m, k)»
You're decompiling and editing my mods? How dare you. Expect to hear from my lawyers.
LOL, only kidding. This is something that's going to be added as an option in the next release.
Excellent, that was that exact response I was hoping for. Notice, I only redistributed a single line of your source. I figured that this was covered under fair-use for educational porpoises.

To be honest I don't know if it's just me but I'm having a hard job understanding what you're saying, and you're obviously having a hard job understanding what I'm saying or it'd be working by now, so all I can do is say read what I wrote in the OP again and try again or give up. Sorry :sad.gif:
I did it complty as the dirrections say, still error. I deleted the edited .jar, and replaced it with the old one. I took the items to the minecraft dirrectry, then I patched it. Then I ran miencraft, ERROR.
As for that silly mod folder, I have no idea why it doesn't install itself or why the .properties file is filled with junk characters instead of a single line of plain text, but that's not really a problem if you realize that the file should be only plain text.
From now on I'm trying to limit the amount of dicking about in minecraft.jar that you have to do to get these mods to work. The patcher pretty much does the bare minimum it needs to which is put in my new class files and patch a few bits here and there in the existing game files. Everything else I am going to leave out in the open so people can get to it and play around. For example, there's no reason why the overlay or color palette needed to be in the jar, if it's outside people can edit it freely and not have to worry about breaking the game. Same with config files - why hide them away? Putting stuff in the jar just creates confusion for people.
So that's the thinking. It might not seem like a lot now, but there's some stuff I have in mind for later where it's going to be important to be able to get to things easily.

Oh, I think you misunderstand me, you are absolutely right in your design philosophy, just the minor detail of not automatically putting the mod folder into .minecraft is slightly annoying for non expert users. Normal users should feel comfortable that when they double click an installer it will have all of the expected defaults checked, and will install all neccesary files in their correct locations. This is the principle of least surprise.
i.e. I was most surprised that I had to manually move the mods directory to where it lived in .minecraft and that I had to check boxes in order to get what should have been the default behavior. And surprised again that the preference file had junk characters in it(though this may have been only local as some people do not seem to be reporting it)

I really want to use SimpleMap but when I applied the patch and changed the Overlay to match my Doku texture pack, I entered the game to find all my textures and mods I had installed were gone. I couldn't even enter my inventory without crashing because my Elemental Arrows mod was gone. On the plus side, Simple map worked perfectly. Lol.
Until there's a "better" solution to installing SimpleMap, such as an integrated option in the HD Texture fix, I think I'll pass for now. *sigh*. Back to re-downloading all my mods >.<.
I really wanna do this and test it out but i have a mac and i dont know how i intall it so if someone has done this witha mac please reply!!
I use a mac, I don't have any good advice for you other then to read the directions. It works perfectly, provided you read carefully. If you are click happy you will probably make an error and not install things correctly.
Perhaps when seeking help, you could describe in explicit detail what you did, and where it failed, or what specifically confused you. When you don't do these basic things, no one can help you.
Oh and as a side note, I am awful at spelling too. That's why I use a spell checker.

This is because you didn't follow the instructions in the OP. The OP says
In the top box, select your minecraft.jar which should be in the "bin" directory. The patcher will make a backup of it called minecraft.original.jar. In the second box, select minecraft.jar again - this will get written over by the patcher.
If you don't do that, the top box contains the backup of minecraft.jar that the HQ patcher backed up when it ran - so what you get out at the end is the original minecraft.jar with no mods applied except for simplemap. Sorry about that, but this is why there are instructions.

I would have "Followed the instructions of the OP" if they were included with the download. I didn't even realize the OP had posted anything until reading what you just posted. That being said, I'm confronted with another error when I try to do it that way.

Now that one IS wierd. You're the second person I've seen get that too. They're the classes from the original patcher code... I must've messed something up there, sorry :sad.gif:

I got it working by deleting my bin folder, re-downloading Minecraft and applying the SimpleMap Patch first, then using the HD texture fix Patch, apply my texture fix. Now I have Simple Map and textures. Now I just have to reinstall all my mods, which isn't really that big a deal. SimpleMap is too handy to ignore.
Thanks for going to that extra effort Miles, I've found the cause of that last bug you saw now (missing classes...) . Yuck, embarassing - it will be fixed next release. I went through the patcher pulling out bits and bobs to try and get the size down, but I left half of something in there that shouldn't be there. Mea culpa.

No problem. Best to whittle down whatever problems there are rather than sit and complain and wait for them to go away, lol.
Now I'm having trouble with Elemental Arrows. Apparently 1.41 doesn't work anymore *shrug*. That isn't your fault, though.
I'd like to try SimpleMap, but honestly, there is no way I am going to reinstall nine other mods plus my texture pack just to install this one.
Set the patcher up to ignore non-matching class files in minecraft.jar from now on. Seriously, we should have the option of forcing it to patch the file anyways.
Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity.
