Ladies and gentlemen, may I present the latest breakthrough in mining technology. A mod as breathtaking as the aether, as versatile as singleplayer commands, as necessary as modloader. This mod will change minecraft forever. Ladies and gentlemen, this is...
Damn fast minecarts.
That's right folks. No longer will you be forced to ride the rails at the mundane speeds of the old minecart, reaching speeds of a mere 8 meters per second. My new model can attain speeds exceeding a blazing 50 meters per second. Just step into one of my carts and let your virtual hair fly in the wind, as you ride in style!

At the moment this mod replaces the EntityMinecart class. If enough people would like, I'll create a modloader version that will create a completely new minecart rather than replacing the old one. This mod does not currently affect travel up or down inclines, and may be a little buggy - especially where minecart collisions are concerned.
I agree that 8 meters per second is to slow, but 50 meters per second is WAY to fast.
lol my goal was being somewhat ridiculous :laugh.gif:. I was planning on making it customizable at some point (probably after switching to a modloader version), but to be honest the somewhat complex workings of the minecart are rather confusing, and I'm not sure how precise I can make the customization.
And when I talk about complex workings - as far as I can tell via the source, minecarts should go ~.4 * (a constant) m/s. And they go 8, so the constant should be ~20. I changed the max speed to ~12.5 times the normal (5), and ended up with more than 200 m/s (average including acceleration time), which would mean the "constant" is actually ~40. Then there's the strange spikes in speeds up to 10,000 times what I put the max as when there isn't always a decelerating force. I know I'm missing something in the math, but it's rather difficult to puzzle out when every variable is named something like "d1, d2, d3..." (MCP names) :sad.gif:

the custom speed would be pretty nice (i understand how annoying the code for these are), ive been thinking for a while now to build a "functioning" large hadron collider. where i would eventually launch "atoms" (aka pigs/mobs) into a large lava pool, or something in that order..

Lol should you ever create this LHC I would love to see it

its all about laying down tracks now, maybe expand on it. once i go over to my friend's house (dont own minecraft so i play on his computer and account) ill see if this will workout over a large scale ( idk if distance will cause lag in the system) but for sure ill leave a post here.
Ok thanks, I've found the minecraft.jar file in the bin folder, but where am I supposed to put the yl.class file?
I put it in the same folder as minecraft.jar but minecarts still run at the same speed.
You open the .jar file with winrar or 7zip and then just drag and drop the yl.class into the opened folder. it will then override the speed of the minecarts.

hmm possibly, I'm not completely sure what making something like this for multiplayer would entail.

Can you be more specific? Thanks.
When you enter .minecraft (after roaming) go into the bin folder and find either minecraft or minecraft.jar
