O.k. so I've been told there's a difference between a black MC screen and a black computer screen. When I am playing MineCraft, after about 5-15 minutes my whole computer screen turns black.

What do I do? I've tried to fix this problem by deleting .minecraft file and uploadindg a new one. I've also deleted the bin file and got a new one. Anyone able to help? I'd really appreciate it. I'm not much of a technical person, but I could really use some help. I don't want to not be able to play MC w/o getting a new computer.

Thank you very much!!

Though you said you know the difference between the two, I'll go ahead and tell you that to deal with a minecraft black screen, you delete the META-INF folder in the minecraft.jar. For your whole monitor going black, do you need to restart your computer? Since you aren't actually using default computer actions like, internet, etc, your computer may be set to sleep if not in use for a certain amount of time, or "hibernate," as called on other computers. Go check that, and also make sure no you didn't download any sketchy-looking mods that may have access to your computer, or something like that.

I have no mods on my computer at all. I heard from someone that it could be a virus, and I am currently running a scan.

When the MC screen disappears, it usually turns into one of these three: A completely black screen, a black screen with vertical lines, or a blue screen.
But yes, I have to manually turn off my computer by holding in the power button.

And my computer isn't in hibernation mode at all. I am able to do everything else on my computer without getting a black screen, except MC.

Btw, thanks for responding.

Still happening...Just digging in MC (tried to play again) and after 20 minutes, the screen changes to black with white stripes. Very thin..going vertical. MC crashes and I have to turn off the computer. Not even CTRL-ALT-DELETE works.

Anyone? Re-did virus scanner- nothing. Also updated Java- nothing. All the problems with black screens that I see are with just the MC screen, but mine's the whole screen. Happened just now for the 9th time. It even does it with the browser version.

Sorry for copy&pasting, but I'm too tired to form a new wall of text ;)

Although I think the problem is not in the parameters of your computer, but in it's technical state, please post your system spects (including the motherboard and power supply)

I would check 2 things: make sure what your PSU power and brand is, and check the temperatures.
Download speedfan to check the temperatures. Anything above 70C in stress should cause concern. Computer automatically hangs up when something reaches a certain temperature - is this the first time you experience something like this in any game?
Try cleaning up the inside of your computer and check if the fans run correctly if something is wrong with temperatures.
Meanwhile, a bad brand power supply can seriously cause some trouble. If it's possible, open your case and check the name written on it.

Blackscreen after a certain time especially indicates overheating.

Nope, I've had it overheat many times. Usually when I'm playing MC, the computer gets really hot to the touch. Actually, it's a laptop. Here's the specs:

Model: HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC
Processor: AMD Turion™ II Ultra Dual-core Mobile M600, 2.40 Ghz
Installed memory: 4 GB
System tpe: 64-bit Operating system

Yeah. I think those are the specs. Sorry, I'm not technical.

Downloaded speedfan to see how much my computer heats up. It gets really hot, sometimes I have to put a pillow under it because it almost burns. I'm going to see if I can open up my laptop and clean the fan. That's probably the problem. I lay my computer on a chair, and it's possible that dust and hair (from my cat) get in my computer thanks to it sitting there. I'll try to clean it today and see if it's working.

Thanks for helping so far. :)
