I think I've found a bug.
I made a huge laser-wall powered with redstone, because I wanted to "burn" a tunnel.

But after I activated the laser, I got a message telling me that minecraft was saving chunks.

Then I got this error report:

I have an idea for this mod: Ultra-weak lasers that can't hurt mobs or the player but are stopped by them so you can make it like this:
L---------------------S
L being a ultra-weak laser, S being a laser sensor and - being a laser shot and when a mob comes (M=mob):
L----------M          S so you can make long-range mob-detectors without having to craft several stacks of pressure plates.

There DEFINITELY needs to be a limit on how far the beam can go. Once I had to going a really long way, I ran into the game doing the "Saving Chunks" crash.

found 2 bugs so far (aside from the "Saving Chunks" glitch, which hasn't happened for a while), both in this picture.

i described it in the picture, since I thought it would be too hard to in the post.

I also hooked it up to a redstone clock, and when you get REALLY far out...like when the clock is outside of the loaded chunk, the line gets semi glitchy looking. It doesn't break though, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Loving the idea! I also remember a bunch of people on the redstone forums saying how making a powerful (we're talking like 512kb here :P) computer on minecraft is impossible due to the fact that redstone signal is so slow. Whether or not deliberate, you've inadvertently created faster redstone! A quick test showed that over a distance of 25 or so blocks, 2 lasers to a sensor beats a standard redstone signal by about half a second, which of course as the distance gets longer becomes more and more significant.

I would love if you could develop the capabilities more here, just off the top of my head I can think of ...

- Laser gun. We all thought of it didn't we! Not only could it provide half decent damage, it could sizzle the blocks in front of you at X (fairly slow) speed, I'm also thinking that a flick of a switch (like right click) could make the laser from damage to power, so that it powers the block you point at. That could be potentially useful for testing circuits, and has potential with developing circuitry and more complicated traps which require the user to input the source themselves!

- Automatic laser forcefield. Perhaps for a rather hefty cost of lots of lasers you could create a 2x3 wall of laser that shoots at 90 degree angles. I'm finding hard to put it into words but almost a 'corner' big block that fires 3 lasers in 2 directions. My thoughts here came for quick use of the lasers to create a boundary or for powering stuff.

you should make one out of gold that acts as a trip wire.
walk past it and the sensor on the other side will deactivate and pistons will retract underneath you any you fall into a laser pit of doom.
remember to smile...  AND PLAY MINECRAFT

I had the same problem, every time I turned a laser on or off it would crash.
