I'm not longer updating this mod, but the source is avaliable. Details here.

After this mod is installed, when creating a new world, you will see this screen:

Each world can have a different world generator. The mod comes with three world generators, but you can easily install more.

I created this mod because I've seen a fair amount of external tools that do very cool things with terrain. The problem with these tools is that if you travel too far in one direction, the world goes back to what it looks like normally. With this mod, terrain will generate infinitely, like it should in Minecraft.

Old 1.7.3 Download
Download (adf.ly)
Download (regular)
Back up your worlds before installing. I'm not responsible for broken worlds.

This mod won't change how the nether is generated. The three world generators it comes with are:
  • Default - exactly like the default world generator
  • Sky - generates floating islands
    Posted Image
  • Nether - generates the regular world like the nether
Installation
Just drop the files into minecraft.jar. This mod does replace a few files, and is not compatible with any other mods that replace the same files. It is compatible with ModLoader (but does not require it) and most ModLoader mods.

To install new world generators, find/create a folder called mapgen in your Minecraft folder (.minecraft on Windows; it's the same folder that contains bin, resources, saves, etc.). You should download the world generators as either .zip files or .jar files. Place the file right into the mapgen folder without extracting it.

I made an installation video covering how to install both the mod and a separate world generator.

World Generators - Developed for 1.7.3, probably won't work
If you message me with a really good world generator, I'll add it here.

Silver_Weasel
Wasteland - Silver_Weasel's Wasteland mod. Completely new world generator; check out the link for details.
Hippoplatimus
Flat - Generates a flat plane of stone with no ores or features of any kind. The bottom layer is bedrock. Useful for construction with the aid of inventory hacking.
Simple Winter - It's always winter. It snows everywhere, but only when it would normally rain.
Simple Desert - The world is one desert. Very difficult, because there are no trees.
Risugami's Biosphere Fix - Allows you to use Risugami's Biosphere in this mod. Read the readme! This download does not actually include Risugami's Biosphere!
davidknag
Flat Grass - Generates a flat plane of grass.
Flat Sandstone - Generates a flat plane of sandstone.
yumyum123
Hardcore Survival Biomes - A collection of several world generators that are all based on the regular world generator. Contains: Frindly [sic], which prevents hostile mob spawning; Hell On Earth, which causes Zombie Pigmen and Ghasts to spawn in the regular world; and Last Days (with several biome options), which makes it always night-time.
Requires lots and lots of Java knowledge! Click here.

Can I remove xa.class? It's not compatible with one of the mods in Zombe's modpack.

EDIT: Never mind, I just realized what it's for.

sorry, you said that 135 x 135 in pixels was larger than the universe in mm. I used maths to show that you were wrong. so what exactly should I be learning?
that, you should re organize your brain cells into an order, where thay can comprehend paradoxes.

It would be amazing if you could add a preset labeled "Alpha" which would generate terrain similar to what the game was like pre-Alpha 1.2.0. I would love to go back in time for nostalgia purposes.

Also, the addition of a Snowy world like what it was like pre-Alpha 1.2.0 would be very nice too. The whole winter wonderland, with added pine trees, would be great for wintery building projects. Not only that, but if it is possible you could make the weather snowy 90% of the time for that added snow regeneration effect.

If you didn't notice, I miss Alpha. :(

By the way, I would say spawning directly into the Nether is an awesome idea only if there's a way to get back to the Overworld as well. Perhaps hidden caches of trees or dungeons of aggressive pigmen dungeons could provide some of the unavailable tools and materials. I can't imagine having much fun spawning in the Nether and having not even a pickaxe to collect netherrack.

I can get behind this. One of the common requests on the Wasteland thread is that Silver_Weasel adds a way to make the mod easily toggleable (i.e. a ModLoader mod, but since it changes biome terrain base classes...), or to make it a side dimension (which, with Nether, Skylands, and Aether already, is getting kinda ridiculous). Making it a generation option on world start is a nice compromise.
