So, you've seen the title, the poll, and I doubt you've seen my mod request [http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1033&t=340007 ]. As the title says, I'm working on a mod that will add craftable power armor. The armor will have it's own GUI for adding redstone torches, managing repairs, and a small inventory. The armor will be craftable from any armor that exists in the ORIGINAL minecraft. I have no intention of making it support chainmail until it's made craftable. Well, to craft the armor, you'll need to have lots of redstone, and a full set of leather, iron, gold, or diamond armor. Yes, a FULL set. No putting on boots and going "Lol, can't catch me, I've got power boots!" There'll be one level of power armor, unlike in the mod request, as adding different levels is just. . . a pain for the modder. Anyway: crafting the armor requires redstone laid out in the shape of each piece of armor. So, make a redstone helmet, chest plate, greaves, boots. Then, just craft them together. I've got the talented Jevarah [friend of mine, he makes EPIC skins on request] making armor spirites for me. Think painterly type armor. The armor will make you run faster [not too fast though, just a bit faster], jump 1 block higher, your unarmed damage will increase, your mining speed [if i can] will increase too. There'll be other things as well, eventually. There is a catch though. . . a small detail. You don't just get to craft it and forget about it, gallivanting about with no regard for anything. No, you have to keep the armor powered, like you would a furnace. The power source will be redstone torches. The power you get from 1 torch will equal about 1/4 of a minecraft day/night cycle. So, if you run out of power. . . [evil laugh] you'll be slowed, you'll lose your damage resistance, and your mining speed, jump height, etc. will be normal again. That's the trade off. Redstone = boosts. Plain and simple.
To recap the benefits:
Faster run speed 1.5 x normal.
Faster mining speed 2 x normal.
Jump height increase 2 x normal.
Unarmed damage increase 2 x normal.
Base protection x 2 when powered. Base protection = normal damage resistance.
Those benefits WILL be in the mod.
These benefits [below] will be in the mod if I find it possible:
Mini storage pack. 9 slots
Repairs [put original crafting materials in the "Repair" slot on the armor GUI to repair. i.e. use leather for leather armor.]
Negatives:
Must be powered by redstone torches.
When out of power, all benefits lost. Except the mini storage pack [if implemented]
Estimated Time remaining until playable version:
~UNKNOWN~
To-Do list:
-NEW- from a comment by "ghostmuffin": a short charge up time for sprinting and jumping.
-NEW- from a comment by "blacklex11": increased/infinite breath underwater.
Speed Boost
-Removed until further notice- Mining Boost. Reason: If you've got the resources to make this armor, I should hope you have a diamond pick, so why even bother?
Jump Boost
GUI
Needs to be powered for benefits
Misc. new Item code.
Done:
Damage reduction to player.
Maximum [damage to break armor] damage increase.
(IGNORE THIS kthxbai) I'll post a download link once I fix a few things. Basically all it is atm is more powerful diamond chestplate. INCOMPATIBLE with single player commands at this point in time. I am unaware why. . .

Instructions:
Modloader, add classes, salt, pepper to taste.
Update 7/29/11:
Adding a crafting recipe, nothing fancy, surround a diamond chest plate with redstone for a greater max damage (before it breaks) and a greater damage reduction. Still, progress is progress.
Update 2 7/29/11:
Well, I just found out the hard way why nearly all mods use modloader... long story short, minor set backs here, converting stuff into it's own modloader class.
I'm adding an actual date to the ETA now. . . School starts back on August 22 for me which means 2 things: less time to work on this, and possible help from a couple of teachers. That is, if they aren't "No outside projects! What's this?! A GAME!!" type teachers. . . Meh, flash drive with eclipse, MCP, and minecraft in portable format, I can work from any computer.
Update 8/15/11:
I've got an idea about the armor's damage bar indicating charge level, but not breaking. . . I doubt that'll pan out.
Wondering what happened to me? Well, school starts in exactly a week. With that, they sent me a bit of summer reading. 2 books, 12 essays, 2 thick packets of nonsense to do. So no worries, I'll get a playable version ASAP. . . once I finish all the nonsense my school gave me to do. Sorry. . .
Also: how about a noteblock that plays alarm noises? Anyone interested?
Update 8/19/11:
I've enlisted a friend of mine to try and get the GUI for the armor working. So that's
new. If/When he gets the GUI working, it will be a simple matter to make the armor "check" to see if it's powered, if it's a full suit, etc.
Progress!
I like the idea of armor types that give you some sort of advantage, at a cost.
I kinda think, having a couple sets to do different things is better tho.
Like one for traveling, one for killing, mining, swimming, and such. An all in one, seems a bit overpowered.
On another note, power armor seems a bit to advanced for the minecraft genre imo. (if were going by fallouts power armor)
So maybe a steampunk version? or maybe enchanted items with set bonuses?
Or, have it need to charge up for sprints and short distances of gliding|super jumps.
Much like a sprint bar, it goes down, but take a while to go up while consuming the redstone.
I'm glad to see people supporting this! I also agree that a small charge up would be great for sprinting/jumping, etc. but I have no idea how to implement it with a visual. . . I'd be welcome to any help to be honest, so keep the ideas coming!
I think you should add diamond to the recipe for the power armor parts and create a recharger block that is made of 8 iron and a redstone piece in the middle. make the recharger have 1 slot for redstone dust to be burnt, 4 for each armor piece and 4 other for putting the armor pieces when recharge is complete. Also make it last longer as recharging it 4 times a day doesn't sound fun at all to me(maybe configurable).
You will be able to just drop a stack of redstone torches into the armor's "Power" slot once that's done. That'll last for. . . 16 days in game. For now, I'm getting ready to release a test.
what is this power amor from (if it is from something) fallout, warhammer 40k or something else?
either way i cant wait
It's partially from fallout, but mostly from my friend and me sitting in Digital Electronics class (Project Lead The Way engineering type deal) and scribbling out ideas and wishing we had the knowledge to make it. The result of that was the full concept of minecraft power armor but no idea if half of our ideas were even possible. An early idea was to have it possible to fuel the armor with a lava bucket, giving the wearer the ability to punch things into flames and 100% fire resistance. Also the armor'd be powered for a very, very long time. I'm nearly sure that punching things into flames is not going to be possible or even smart, since I'm sure someone'd start a horrible forest fire or something. If i find the notebook we made the concept in, I'll scan it in someday.
I apologize for the lack of news, but, basically, my schoolwork has taken over the everything. I have, however, found a couple of people to help me so once we get some time, we can bang out the mod in no time. No you won't be able to enchant it. :tongue.gif: At least not for the first release.
