Hey folks, first time posting, so I hope this goes over well.

Need a bigger boom? Have more resources than sense? Well have I got the recipe for you! C4! Plastique! Semtex!  It'll make one hell of a crater, and you can make adorable sculptures out of it! Perfect for taking out the side of a mountain, or for strip mining. Here's the recipe:

[C] [C] [C]
[G] [R] [G]
[C] [C] [C]

Key:
C= Clay
G= Gunpowder
R= Redstone Dust

Perhaps it would use a detonator system using Redstone circuits, like a reusable detonator and a disposable blasting cap. Is it worth a hoot, or should I just avoid posting when sleep-deprived?

Oh, and if this has already been suggested, I'm sorry. I got no hits on "Plastic Explosives," and the system wouldn't let me search for "C4."

I can see people complaining already because it's too modern and stuff

Still though I support it since clay is not as abundant as it would seem, or mayb that's changed recently

I'd prefer to see the existing TNT used in concert with Iron to make shaped charges, and focus it's blast in a single, or specific directions. TNT is powerful enough that we wouldn't necessarily need to bring C4 into the mix, so I'd simply like to see gunpowder in different areas other than simply creeper loot.

Too modern. Won't happen.

TNT is fine.

what if you had 18 C4s?
then you'd call it C418.

Maybe not C4, but something that acts similar in a way? Small TNT that could be hooked up to redstone?

How about this instead.

:stone:  :stone:  :stone:
:stone:  :tnt:  :stone:
:stone:  :stone:  :stone:

Using stone to represent Clay.

This make a fragmentation explosive (And don't go saying that's too modern; they had fragmenting explosives almost as long as they have had TNT if I remember correctly.) which does not damage any blocks around it, but does LARGE amounts of damage to any enemies (Or players) nearby. It can function like TNT, but perhaps it can only be activated by redstone.

Don't worry too much about Knytt, he tends to forget his medication every once in a while.

I thought it was. If you've got a better layout, fire away.

The explosive in C4 (making up 91% of its weight) is cyclotrimethylene-trinitramine, named RDX (Research Department Explosive). It is a very complex molecule, consisting of 50% nitrogen and 50% oxygen. The rest is plasticizer and binder (and sometimes taggant) between these two molecules, giving it its modelling clay ability. (These vary between several alternatives.)

However, let's compare explosives to get a picture of how necessary a stronger explosive like C4 would be in the game.
Right now we use TNT. (It's not really TNT - at most mixing sand and gunpowder will get you a dilluted gunpowder keg, but I don't have stats for gunpowder kegs.)

TNT has a detonation velocity of 6,900 m/s (meters per second).
Dynamite has a detonation velocity of 7,700 m/s - just 12% more than TNT.
RDX (C4) has a detonation velocity of 8,750 m/s - only 27% more than TNT, increasing the range of the crate only by a fourth of what we currently use. Just using another TNT block would be much more economical, making twice the crater for just five more gunpowder (instead of going through the complex process of creating RDX).

I would like too see this, not in the main game but as a "when you feel like it mod" I generally think minecraft should tilt more to the medival side than modern.

I mean, we already have TNT. It might be cool in a Modern version of the game (or a modern mod), but we already have an explosion device in normal Minecraft. Just my opinion.

Oh, and if this has already been suggested, more times than i ought to remember  I'm sorry. I got no hits on "Plastic Explosives," search for clay bombs, or just for gun suggestions and the system wouldn't let me search for "C4." the system sides with me

to make it short: OP, suggested before, and totally unfitting in mc (dynamite has been around for a long time, but c4 is super-modern)

I'd rather not have C4. TNT is a big enough of an explosion.

3 problems:
1. LAG
2. Griefing made easy! Could be prevented with a gamerule/property in the server files.
3. Too modern. Maybe redstone and TNT to make mega TNT or something.

hmmm, reading you all give me a better idea I think. I'll post it. Anyway, too modern.

Well I have a different idea (mega TNT) since the 2.0 joke update in April it gave me a good idea, since they had TNT slab in it.
Take current TNT recipe and make those with current explosive power, then have a recipe with 2 makes regular TNT with a little higher power but all 9 make a mega TNT block that is 10 times current size and packs massive force.

This would solve most people's problems in the game with lacking power since current TNT blocks look like more TNT than they are, If you rather think something different like a C4 or small nukes then go for it!  But a packed TNT block seems fine to me!
