Heavily inspired by Vechs' Super Hostile Series, I bring you
Information
One day as I was playing a Super Hostile Map, I realized that I would have much more fun making the maps than I would playing them. So I started an attempt at an original map, creating oversized mountains and covering them in snow. (If you dig through the comments on the Super Hostile post, you can find some pictures of them.) After realizing that I can't use the Super Hostile name or the Victory Monument, (and that the map was incredibly bland) I came up with the idea of creating the Survivalist Haven series. It is in many ways like the Super Hostile Series. Upon starting the map are introduced to a difficult environment, where some resources may be difficult to get, and monster spawners might be obnoxiously placed.
The overall goal of the map is to find the monument, (known as the Plateau of Champions on the Survivalist Haven Maps) and attempt to complete it. There are 16 different chests all over each map, each with a different color of wool. Once you find them, place them under the respective sign on the Plateau of Champions. In addition to the wools, there are three different ore blocks that can be crafted or found on the map, with the addition of another block that changes between maps. Once the Plateau of Champions is complete, you have pretty much seen everything on the map. On to the next one!
Know that while playing these maps there are nearly no rules- except you can't craft wool blocks. Use any way you can to survive, and explore to find more materials. Don't expect to dig down and find coal or iron. If you leave the boundaries of the map, I consider that cheating. For more specific information on each map, read the readme that is included in the zip file of all the maps.
The Maps
Note: never played a CTM map before? Give Compound Island II a go. Looking for a difficult long-term experience with cool builds? Try out Hell's Highway. Already completed both? Check back every day to see if there are any updates. #3, set in a ruined city, is next!
Survivalist Haven #1 - Compound Island
Difficulty: Easy
Type: Open World
This is the first map in the series. Compound Island has you placed on an island that is broken up into three different oversized biomes: Forest, Desert, and Snow/Mountain. Further, each biome is broken up even more. In the middle of it all is a giant compound, which was recently deserted.

Survivalist Haven #1 - Compound Island II
Difficulty: Very Easy
Type: Open World
Did the first Survivalist Haven not live up to your expectations? Thought it needed great improvement? Did you come out of the Compound and have no idea what to do? Well, this remake is for you. I rescaled the original Compound Island down to a small fraction of what it was, and added numbered dungeons. This map is short and sweet, like the first map of this series should be. You will still be impressed with some of the dungeons though, don't worry.
If you have never played a CTM map before, this is a good start and should give you a feel of what they are like. You will find that the map is a lot like survival island except with lots of unique dungeons.
Survivalist Haven #2 - Hell's Highway
Difficulty: Hard
Type: Linear/Open-Worldish.
The second installment has you set on a highway, and each exit leads to a different area. This map is probably the thing I am most proud of ever creating in Minecraft.
DeputyMcSnickers is at it again with a let's play, check it out.

Note that he is playing on version 1, so things may be different in recent updates.
Survivalist Haven #3 -
Difficulty: Undecided
Type: Open World

This is my texture pack that I made based off of the Fallout series. I haven't updated it in a while, but I think I will get around to it eventually.
Other Complete the Monument Series'/Maps you may enjoy:
Q: How long does it usually take you to finish a map?
A: It depends, my first map took me 16-17 days (pretty much working for 2-3 hours each day) and my second map took me 17-18 days. The maps will be farther apart once I start school up in the beginning of September.
Q: What texture pack/mods do I use?
A: It really doesn't matter to me, but you should use the recommended texture pack for the map if there is one, because some blocks may seem out of place if you don't.
Q: How do I get information on the map you are currently working on?
A: Check the daily picture everyday and look through some old comments, there may be something about it in there.
Q: Can I work with you on a map?
A: Thanks but no thanks. I like to have every aspect of the map rely on my own map-making skill. Maybe in the future I will make a map where other people will send me their schematics/maps, and I will throw them all together. (Comment and tell me what you think.)
Q: I need help on _______ area.
A: I won't usually answer to that unless a lot of people are having trouble with it.
Q: How long have you been playing Minecraft?
A: Since Seananners uploaded the video about it, on August 25th of 2010.
Q: I found a sign that says _______ and I have no idea what it means.
A: It's probably a reference to something obscure.
Q: Grinch, no one has ever asked you any of these questions...
A: My thread, I do what I want, stupid noodle.

doubt it, happens A LOT on canopy carnage, go investigate why and fly around a bit. ull see why lol
and yw, i might do somethig like this only sorta like jurassic park. its not a giantass HALFSTEP CUBE that pisses you off... BTW, in the beginning no spawners and more torches, if u lack of torches they get lost. if u lack of torches and too many spawners, they die. maybe a wood sword at start too? not hidden? this map series looks to be great. ever tried using WorldPainter for the terrain??? makes pretty nice landscapes... ALL my maps used it, but every map AFTER my everest g0 map used MCedit too. hey btw if u want u can use the name Everest G9 too since it turned out crappy in mine lol...
I played it a bit: basically skipped the first part and went straight for the forest, I'll go back when i have torches. After a bit wondering (and completely losing track of where I am, my bad) I think you should rethink monster spawning: remember they don't spawn in light! The area has pretty much no challenge at all during the day (not that it's easy, it's even easier... I found only one lonely spider in ten minutes). A possible solution would be to drastically increase the number of leaves, and put them also further down the trunks. Other than that, I like the level of detail so far.
I understand what you're saying, but the map is based around exploration and then once you find caves/dungeons it's about mob fighting. I probably should've made that clearer. The mobs get intense in some areas. Also, the forest is huge so you do get lost, and are forced to set up camp before night, because there are a lot of mobs in there at night.
The first map was made as a kind of test, to see how to create large scaled maps. I am going to learn from my mistakes for the second one, and hopefully it will be a lot more fun. I promise though, if you take the time to explore the entire map you will find a lot of cool stuff. :cool.gif:
yo grinch u should try using WorldPainter on ur maps, [dunno if ive said already lol, its such a good edittor] its pretty nice, good with netherlike stuff
Downloading now. I'll edit with my first impression and after I finish! The pics seem awesome!
First Impressions: Seems great! So far I've four a couple pieces of wool! I've been playing every chance I get and I look forward to finishing! Keep up the good work!
Thank you to everyone who took the time to download. I put countless hours into the map, so it really does mean a lot. :cool.gif:
I'm confident that the second map will be a lot better, because I understand some tricks I can use and I have a better idea of how to make a CTM map.
Here's what I have of the second map so far:
The idea is that you are on a "highway" like thing and each exit leads to a different area, most with a different kind of wool. My goal is to make this a hard map and include a lot of originality into each area.
The general idea:
(The reason there is light at the end is because I only created the first bit.)
The first area I've worked on so far. (The reason there is other terrain is because I make everything in a different world and then copy/paste it into the map itself.)

FAQ:
Q. What programs/mods do you use to make your maps?
A. I use MCEdit to make the base of most of my structures/landscapes, and I use TooManyItems, Zombe's Modpack, (with fly and builder on) and Single Player Commands.
